The situation went out of control in Delhi's Pandav Nagar after scores of people staged a protest outside the house of the rape accused who allegedly sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl.
According to police, the girl was raped by the brother of her tuition teacher. The survivor later informed her parents that the 34-year-old accused threatened her not to tell anybody about it.
"In Mandawali Police Station, yesterday a complaint was received that a 4-year-old girl was raped by a 34-year-old man at the place where she goes for tuition. We have registered a case and the man was arrested," Delhi Eastern Range's Additional CP Sagar Singh Kalsi told ANI news agency.
"In this area, a rumour was spread that no actions were being taken so people gathered, we also got to know about some incidents of vandalism. Police reached the spot and now the situation is peaceful. The girl is also safe," he added.
Some locals gathered outside the accused house and vandalised cars and autos in the vicinity, demanding strict punishment.
Meanwhile, additional police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
The girl is undergoing counselling at AIIMS.&nbsp;

The girl has made a tweet from her Twitter handle that she has reached Bangladesh and fit in her mind and body, ANI said, quoting Police.&nbsp;

Police said that the boys seen in the video have been identified after meticulous efforts through field officers and local intelligence. "Three boys including one juvenile have been apprehended and enquired. They have confessed/admitted about the incident/happening seen in the video. They all are residents of the nearby area of Pahar Ganj and went that way in the enjoyment of Holi," the official said.&nbsp;

A special court in Mumbai has sentenced a man to one-and-a-half years imprisonment for harassing a minor girl, observing that calling a girl an "item" is derogatory and objectifies her in a sexual manner.
In the order passed on October 20, the court refused to show leniency to the accused and said such "roadside Romeos" need to be taught a lesson in order to protect women from such uncalled-for behaviour.
Special Judge A J Ansari, designated to hear cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, held the man, aged 25 at the time of the incident, guilty of outraging the modesty of the 16-year-old victim by addressing her as an "item" and pulling her hair near her residence in suburban Mumbai in July 2015.
"The fact that the accused intentionally caught hold of the the victim's hair and pulled it and called her an 'item', in my opinion, will certainly go to prove the fact of him having outraged her modesty," the judge said.
The accused's behaviour was "wholly inappropriate", the court observed.
&ldquo;The accused addressed her by using the term 'item' which is a term used generally by boys to address girls in a derogatory fashion as it objectifies them in a sexual manner. The same will clearly indicate his intention of outraging her modesty," the order said.
"Using the term 'item' to address any girl is obviously insulting in nature," it added.
The acts of the accused were obviously done with a sexual intent as the word &ldquo;item&rdquo; when used to address a girl is only used to objectify her sexually and nothing else, the judge said.
The court further said leniency could not be shown to the accused as the case related to the harassment of a minor girl on the street.
"Such offences need to be dealt with a heavy hand as a lesson needs to be meted out to such roadside Romeos, in order to protect women from their uncalled-for behaviour,&rdquo; it said.
On July 14, 2015, when the victim was returning from school, the accused accosted her and called her an "item".
When the girl asked the man not to harass her, he started abusing her and pulled her hair. She then called the police helpline number 100 and sought help.
The police reached the spot but the accused fled.
The girl went home and informed her father following which a complaint was lodged at Sakinaka police station in Mumbai.
The accused was subsequently arrested and released on bail.

A 12-year-old girl was found bleeding and writhing in pain in the premises of a government guest house here in Tirwa area, police said on Tuesday.

In the video, a policeman was seen taking the girl to an auto rickshaw to take her to the hospital.
The girl went out to purchase a 'gullak' (piggy bank) on Sunday but did not return home after which his family members started searching for her, Superintendent of Police, Kunwar Anupam Singh.
It appears a youth accompanied the girl but as the medical reports have not come yet, rape could not be confirmed, he said.
When the guard of the guest house saw the girl soaked in blood and squirming in pain, he informed the police, the SP said.
Manoj Pandey, the police outpost in-charge, immediately reached the spot and took the girl to the hospital, he said.
The girl was later referred to Kanpur for treatment, Singh said.
In the CCTV footage of a camera in the guest house the girl was seen talking to the youth, he said.
"The identity of youth is being ascertained. Only after the reports, could it be said whether the girl was raped on not," the SP said.
A detailed probe is on in the matter, he said.
