A recent study on gender roles found that when women are the sole breadwinners in heterosexual couples, men experience lower life satisfaction

A recent study on the gender reverse roles has shed light on how unemployment and women being the sole breadwinner impact men's well-being. In the research, it was found that when women are the sole breadwinner in heterosexual couples, men report lower life satisfaction.&nbsp;
The study was published in European Sociological Review in June 2023. For the research, responses from 42,000 people were analyzed.&nbsp;
Helena Kowalewska, an author of the study, wrote in The Conversation that, "women&rsquo;s breadwinning carries such a heavy psychological burden for men that they would prefer she was not employed at all. After accounting for basic characteristics, incomes and gender attitudes, out-of-work men report significantly higher life satisfaction when both partners are jobless"
The study revealed an interesting observation regarding unemployed men's preference for their partners to also be unemployed. Additionally, it highlighted the significant distress experienced by men when their female partners become the sole breadwinners, potentially discouraging women from pursuing employment or higher-paying jobs.&nbsp;

The findings indicate a progressive shift away from traditional binary conceptions of gender.

A recent study has shed light on the prevalent dissatisfaction with the gender assigned at birth among younger individuals, indicating a growing shift in societal attitudes towards gender identity.
The study, titled "Embracing Identity: Exploring Gender Dissatisfaction Among the Younger Generation," delved into the experiences and perspectives of a diverse group of participants aged between 18 and 30. Researchers found that a significant number of individuals expressed discontent with the gender assigned to them at birth, with many yearning for greater authenticity and self-expression.
The findings reveal a progressive shift away from traditional binary conceptions of gender, as more and more young people feel empowered to explore and express their true identities.&nbsp;
The insights gained from this study provide a foundation for advocacy and policy changes that prioritize the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. Understanding and addressing the concerns raised by this younger generation can pave the way for more inclusive practices in healthcare, education, and social support systems.

The HC observed that the basic dignity of a person in custody has to be upheld, which had been flouted in this case.

The Delhi High Court has noted that a virginity test conducted on a female detainee or accused under investigation whether in judicial or police custody is unconstitutional.
The Indian Express reported that a single judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma held that the virginity test conducted on on a Kerala nun, who was convicted for the murder of a fellow nun in 1992, was unconstitutional. The HC observed that the basic dignity of a person in custody has to be upheld, which had been flouted in this case.
Justice Sharma granted liberty to the convicted nun to seek compensation for the violation of her human rights after the criminal case is over.&nbsp;

The girls-only and boys-only schools are likely to be a thing of the past in Kerala soon, as the state child rights panel ordered conversion of all educational institutions in the state into mixed schools by the next academic year.

In a landmark order, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights directed the state government that there should only be co-education institutions in the southern state from the academic year 2023-24.

The girls-only and boys-only schools are likely to be a thing of the past in Kerala soon, as the state child rights panel ordered conversion of all educational institutions in the state into mixed schools by the next academic year.
In a landmark order, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights directed the state government that there should only be co-education institutions in the southern state from the academic year 2023-24.
Based on a plea filed by an individual, the panel ordered the Principal Secretary ( General Education) and Directors of the Public Education and the State Council for Education, Research and Training (SCERT) to come up with an action plan in this regard.

A detailed report on the implementation of co-education system should be submitted to the Commission within 90 days, as per the order.
"An action plan should be prepared by them to stop the exclusive schools for girls and boys in the state and implement co-education in all institutions functioning in the state from the academic year 2023-24," it said.
Besides implementing the co-education system, physical circumstances and basic amenities including toilets should be improved in such schools and parents should be given awareness on the need for co-education, the order further said.
According to figures, there are a total of 280 girls schools and 164 boys schools in the government and aided sectors in Kerala.

Khaled Hosseini, an acclaimed Afghan-American novelist, announced on social media that his daughter, Haris, has come out as transgender. The author of bestsellers "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" took to his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Wednesday to make the announcement.
In a heartfelt post containing two pictures of Haris -- one after her transition and another a throwback photo from her childhood -- Hosseini praised her for meeting the challenge of transitioning with "grace, patience, and wisdom" and said he has "never been prouder of her."
He wrote, "Yesterday, my twenty-one-year-old daughter Haris came out to the world as transgender. I have known about Haris&rsquo; journey since last year and I&rsquo;ve watched her navigate some very trying personal times.&rdquo;
The 57-year-old celebrated writer added that as a father, he is "delighted to now have not one but two beautiful daughters.&rdquo; Hosseini is father to Haris and Farah - his second daughter, whom he had with his wife Roya Hosseini.
He further wrote, &ldquo;Most of all, I am inspired by Haris&rsquo; fearlessness, her courage to share with the world her true self. She has taught me and our family so much about bravery, about truth. About what it means to live authentically. I know this process was painful for her, fraught with grief and anxiety. She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to daily. But she is strong and undaunted.&rdquo;
Hosseini concluded the post with a promise to support her in her journey as a family. &ldquo;I will be by her side every step of the way, as will our family. We stand behind her. It&rsquo;s a privilege to watch her enter the world as the beautiful, wise, and brilliant woman that she is. May God bless her.&rdquo;
