Gandhi Jayanti&nbsp;2021: Known to have inspired great minds like Martin Luther King, Jr.&nbsp;in the United States,&nbsp;Gandhi and his ideology have helped carve the freedom journey of numerous oppressed people the world over.
Often revered as Bapu, Mahatma and Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is one of history's most prominent and inspirational leaders who helped pave India's path to independence.&nbsp;
Observed as Gandhi Jayanti, 02nd October marks the birth anniversary of Gandhi. He was born on October 2, 1869, in the small town of Porbandar&nbsp;in present-day Gujarat. He was shot to death by Nathuram&nbsp;Godse on 30th January 1948. All through his years, he lived a life committed to fasting, meditation, an ascetic lifestyle and non-violence.&nbsp;
Gandhi&nbsp;with his chakra encouraged the use of the Khadi&nbsp;fabric as an effort to promote self-sustenance and self-reliance.&nbsp;He even launched the Salt March or Dandi March in 1930 as a mark of the civil disobedience campaign against the salt tax which prohibited&nbsp;Indians from collecting and selling salt. In 1942, he led the Quit India Movement which was the final call for an end to British Raj.&nbsp;
As an act&nbsp;of universal respect and honour, on June 15, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly announced 2nd October&nbsp;as the International Day of Non-Violence.&nbsp;

As the Union ministry announced crossing the landmark milestone of 430 million vaccine doses,&nbsp;Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday questioned the pace of Covid-19 vaccination. His tweet came just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Mann ki Baat" monthly address.
He used the hashtag "WhereAreVaccines" to question the government on the inoculation rate.
Rahul&nbsp;Gandhi also shared a video highlighting the alleged slow vaccination rate and media reports where people were not getting vaccines across the country.
The video highlighted India's vaccination equation which is aimed to stop the third wave of coronavirus and the target to vaccinate 60 per cent of population with both doses by December 2021.
The graph highlighted that the required vaccination rate is 9.3 million per day&nbsp;and the actual rate in the last seven days is 3.6 million per day, with a daily shortfall in the last seven days being 5.6 million per day.
The Congress has been criticising the government over the rate of inoculations and slow reaction of the government since the begining&nbsp;of the pandemic.&nbsp;

The chart showed that the Indian economy is projected to contract by a massive 10.3 per cent this year, the highest contraction among the countries mentioned.
"Another solid achievement by the BJP government. Even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid better than India," Gandhi tweeted with the chart.
The former Congress chief on Wednesday had also taken a dig at the government over IMF growth projections showing Bangladesh closing in on India in terms of per capita GDP this year and described it as a "solid achievement" of six years of BJP's "hate-filled cultural nationalism".
The Indian economy, severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic, is projected to contract by a massive 10.3 per cent this year, the International Monetary Fund had said on Tuesday.
However, India is likely to bounce back with an impressive 8.8 per cent growth rate in 2021, thus regaining the position of the fastest growing emerging economy, surpassing China's projected growth rate of 8.2 per cent, the IMF said in its latest 'World Economic Outlook' report.

Interacting with a group of farmers from across the country, Rahul said the GST and the noteban were also attacks on farmers, but these three laws will prove to be more detrimental. He also claimed the laws will foster an East India company-like culture and this time, a "West India company" has come in.

PTI,&nbsp;New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the new farm laws will have to be opposed not just for farmers but for the future of the country, as he alleged that they were like a "stab in the farmers' hearts".
Interacting with a group of farmers from across the country, he said the GST and the noteban were also attacks on farmers, but these three laws will prove to be more detrimental.
Gandhi also claimed the laws will foster an East India company-like culture and this time, a "West India company" has come in.
"There is no difference between GST, noteban and these three laws. The only difference is that this is directly stabbing your heart with a knife," he said during the virtual meeting with the group of farmers.
"But I have clarity that this has to be opposed. Not for farmers, but for the future of India," he told the farmers in a nearly 11-minute long video shared on social media.
The Congress has opposed the new farm laws and the party is protesting across the country, even as farmers&rsquo; unions have launched a stir in Punjab and Haryana.
"The farmer is not just a farmer, the voice of farmers is in the youth, in the Army, the police and the voice of farmers has a lot of strength. It is with the help of this voice that India attained independence and once again India will become independent through the farmers' voice," Gandhi said.
The former Congress chief said he had seen in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Bhatta Parsaul village that businessmen wanted the farmers' land as well as their farm produce. "The first fight I fought was of land acquisition and the entire media attacked me," he said.
"They said this is a fight against black money but it was not true. The purpose was to weaken our unorganised sector and the poor, farmers and labourers," Gandhi alleged, adding that the purpose of GST was also the same.
Talking to Gandhi, Dhirender Kumar, a farmer from Champaran in Bihar, said farmers are being exploited in the name of these laws and they will be forced to commit suicide due to hunger.
Ashok Bootra from Yavatmal in Maharashtra feared that no one would buy the farm produce at minimum support price (MSP).
"I feel any farmer who protests will be put in jail. In 1840, the East India company used to put out the price of cotton from England and the entire world would buy at that rate. But the businessmen would know of the price in advance," he said.
"The way East India Company used to do business, I feel the same pattern is being followed again. Farmers and small businessmen will be looted. When farmers will not get the rates for their produce, suicides will increase," Bootra said.
Replying to this, Gandhi said, "You want to say earlier it was East India Company, now a West India company has come in."&nbsp;
