In a bid to foster equality, the New Zealand Cricket Board set a new benchmark as it became the first cricket organisation in the world to announce an equal pay scale for its men's and women's cricketers. As per a new 5-year deal between the NZC, the New Zealand Cricket players' association and 6 major associations, the women cricketers (domestic, international) would get equal match fees for the same amount of work on the same day as their male counterparts from August 1st.It is for the first time that the men's and women's game has been combined under one agreement. New Zealand men's captain Kane Williamson and women's captain Sophie Devine welcomed the decision. While Williamson called it an exciting time for the sport, Devine said that it will be a huge drawcard for young women and girls. While the test match fees for both men's and women's will be $10,250, for ODIs and T20Is, the pay would be $4000 and $2,500.The agreement also aims to provide equity in travel and accommodation for women. It also includes the pregnancy and childcare provisions of the existing contracts.

In a breakthrough for gender equality within sports, FIFA named three female referees to officiate at this year's men’s World Cup for the first time in tournament history.
FIFA confirmed on Thursday that Stéphanie Frappart of France, Japan's Yoshimi Yamashita and Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga were among the 36 referees who were chosen to officiate at the tournament. They will be supported by three female assistant referees.

Notably, 36 referees, 69 assistant referees and 24 video match officials have been selected to take the field in Qatar in November and December.
Talking about the development, the chairman of FIFA's referees committee Pierluigi Collina said "I would hope that in the future, the selection of elite women's match officials for important men's competitions will be perceived as something normal and no longer as sensational."
