The protests were sparked by the recent detention of the aid boat, which was carrying activists, including Greta Thunberg, and was intercepted by the Israeli forces as part of the enforcement of a blockade that has intensified amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, exacerbating humanitarian crises in Gaza.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition organised this initiative to draw attention to the dire situation in the region. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) issued a statement condemning the police's actions, characterising the detentions as brutal and emphasising their commitment to demanding the immediate release of the activists.
"Our resolve is to demand the immediate release of the abducted activists aboard the Freedom Flotilla and our steadfastness in urging for a free Palestine. Numerous students and activists have been detained only for seeking the release of activists who were delivering life-saving aid to Gaza, in complete concurrence with international law. This is a grave blot to democracy," the statement said.
The All India Students' Association (AISA) activists, including the JNU Students' Union President Nitish Kumar, also protested and were detained.
"AISA condemns the brutal detention of students and demands boycott and divestment from Israel and end to the joint ventures, weapons deals and business exchange from the genocidal state of Israel by the Indian government," a statement said.

Meanwhile, Enam Holdings promoters Akash Bhansali and his family along with their investor partners will buy 40% stake in &nbsp;co-working firm WeWork India. As per Mint, the stake will be bought for Rs 1,200 crore in a secondary share sale. The Bhansali family is leading the consortium to acquire the stake in WeWork India. After the transaction, Embassy Group will hold 55-60% stake in WeWork India.&nbsp;

The Indian affiliate will continue to use the WeWork brand name for its business and an annual 2% franchise fee will paid to WeWork Inc.
Meanwhile, Mint quoted a person with knowledge of the matter and said that the Bhansali family is particularly enthused by the "phenomenal growth potential" for the WeWork model of workspace business in India.
Both Embassy and Enam have applied for an approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for the proposed deal. The transaction is expected to be closed within the next 4-6 weeks.
WeWork India is planning to add 18 more buildings, across 1.5 million sq ft, this year while adding more managed offices.

Led By Donkeys, an art activism group, shared their painting expedition in the Kensington Palace Gardens area of central London on social media before four arrests were made by Scotland Yard on suspicion of criminal damage and road obstruction.
It comes a year on from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began on February 24 last year.
"Tomorrow is the first anniversary of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's imperialist invasion of Ukraine, an independent state and a people with every right to self-determination. The existence of a massive Ukrainian flag outside his embassy in London will serve to remind him of that," Led By Donkeys said on Twitter with images of their paint action.

The group, which began in 2018 as an anti-Brexit group, said it had poured 170 litres of yellow paint on the eastbound carriageway and a similar amount of blue paint on the westbound side, with passing traffic then spreading the colours along the road.
