From tech titans to Wall Street power brokers and foreign dignitaries, a who's who of powerful men make appearances in the huge trove of documents released by the Justice Department in connection with its investigations of Jeffrey Epstein.&nbsp;
All have denied having anything to do with his sexual abuse of girls and young women. Yet some of them maintained friendships with Epstein, or developed them anew, even after news stories made him widely known as an alleged abuser of young girls.&nbsp;
None has been charged with a crime connected to the investigation. Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019.
Here's a primer on some of the notable names in the Epstein files:
 Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor The man formerly known as Britain's Prince Andrew has long been dogged by questions about his relationship with Epstein, including allegations from the late Virginia Roberts Giuffre that she was trafficked by Epstein and instructed to have sex with Mountbatten-Windsor when she was 17. The former prince has repeatedly denied that it happened, but his brother, King Charles III, still stripped him of his royal titles late last year, including the right to be called a prince and the Duke of York. Mountbatten-Windsor's name appears at least several hundred times in Friday's document release, including in Epstein's private emails.
 Sarah Ferguson In March of 2011, Sarah Ferguson, then the Duchess of York, made a public apology for letting Jeffrey Epstein pay off some of her debts. Both she and her ex-husband, the former Prince Andrew, had come under tremendous public scrutiny for continuing a friendly relationship with Epstein after he pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution from an underage girl. She told London's Evening Standard newspaper she would have "nothing ever to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again." But just two months later, she emailed Epstein to say she was going on Oprah Winfrey's TV show and wanted his advice on how she should answer questions about their relationship.
 Elon Musk The billionaire Tesla founder turns up at least a few times in Friday's document release, notably in email exchanges in 2012 and 2013 in which he discussed visiting Epstein's infamous Caribbean island compound. But it's not immediately clear if the island visits took place. Spokespersons for Musk's companies, Tesla and X, didn't respond to emails seeking comment Friday or Saturday. Musk has maintained that he repeatedly turned down the disgraced financier's overtures.

 Richard Branson The billionaire founder of the Virgin Group, a global conglomerate, exchanged numerous emails with Epstein. In a 2013 exchange, Branson invited Epstein to his own private Caribbean island. &ldquo;Any time you're in the area, we'd love to see you,&rdquo; he wrote. &ldquo;As long as you bring your harem!&rdquo; In another message that year, he suggested Epstein rehabilitate his image by convincing Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to tell the public how Epstein had &ldquo;been a brilliant adviser&rdquo; and had &ldquo;more than learnt your lesson.&rdquo;
The company stressed in a statement Saturday that there was no wrongdoing and that any dealings were limited to group or business settings.
 Donald Trump It's long been known that Epstein was friends with Trump before the two had a falling out. The new documents contain thousands of references to Trump, including emails sharing news articles, commenting on his policies and gossiping about him and his family. The Justice Department also disclosed a spreadsheet summarising calls to law enforcement tip lines about Trump.
 Bill Clinton Like Trump, Clinton spent time with Epstein more than two decades ago, including flying on his private jet and visiting the White House. Clinton denied knowledge of Epstein's wrongdoing and his representatives said he broke off relations after 2006.
 Steven Tisch The New York Giants co-owner is mentioned more than 400 times. Correspondence shows Epstein offered to connect Tisch with numerous women over the years.
 Brett Ratner The film director appears in several photographs in the files, including one showing him with Jean Luc Brunel, who later died in jail awaiting trial on rape charges.
 Casey Wasserman The president of the LA 2028 Olympics committee exchanged flirty emails with Ghislaine Maxwell. In one exchange, he wrote: &ldquo;What do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?&rdquo; Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence.

Many have denied having close ties to the late financier, or at least having anything to do with his alleged sexual abuse of girls and young women that led to his arrest on sex trafficking charges. None have been charged with a crime connected to the investigation. Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019.
Yet some of them maintained friendships with Epstein, or developed them anew, even after he became known as a predator of young girls and registered sex offender. Here's a primer on some of the notable names in the Epstein files: 
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor&nbsp;

In another message that year, he suggested Epstein rehabilitate his image by convincing Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to tell the public how Epstein had &ldquo;been a brilliant adviser to him&rdquo; and had &ldquo;more than learnt your lesson and have done nothing that's against the law since.&rdquo;
The company stressed in a statement Saturday that there was no wrongdoing on Branson's part and that any dealings with Epstein were &ldquo;limited to group or business settings&rdquo; more than a decade ago. Branson also declined a charitable donation and decided not to meet or speak with him again after his team &ldquo;uncovered serious allegations," the company said.
&ldquo;Had they had the full picture and information, there would have been no contact whatsoever," the statement reads. "Richard believes that Epstein's actions were abhorrent and supports the right to justice for his many victims.&rdquo;

Steven Tisch
The New York Giants co-owner is mentioned more than 400 times in the files released Friday. Correspondence between the two shows Epstein offered to connect Tisch to numerous women over the years.
In one 2013 email exchange with the subject line &ldquo;Ukrainian girl,&rdquo; Epstein encouraged Tisch to contact a particular woman, whose physical beauty he praised in crude terms. &ldquo;Pro or civilian?&rdquo; Tisch asked in reply.
Tisch, a scion of a powerful New York family that founded the Loews Corporation, has acknowledged knowing Epstein but denied ever going to his infamous Caribbean island.
&ldquo;We had a brief association where we exchanged emails about adult women, and in addition, we discussed movies, philanthropy and investments,&rdquo; said Tisch, who also won an Academy Award in 1994 for producing &ldquo;Forrest Gump.&rdquo;
&ldquo;As we all know now, he was a terrible person and someone I deeply regret associating with.&rdquo; 
Casey Wasserman
The president of the committee for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles exchanged flirty emails with Epstein confidant Ghislaine Maxwell, Friday's document release shows.
In a 2003 exchange, Wasserman wrote to Maxwell: &ldquo;I think of you all the time. So, what do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?&rdquo;
In another, Maxwell asks whether it will be foggy enough during an upcoming visit &ldquo;so that you can float naked down the beach and no one can see you unless they are close up?&rdquo;
Wasserman released a statement Saturday saying he never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein and that he regretted the correspondence with Maxwell, which he said came &ldquo;long before her horrific crimes came to light.&rdquo;
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking and abuse of minors. 
Ehud Barak
The former Israeli prime minister and his wife turn up frequently in the documents released Friday, showing they stayed in regular contact with Epstein for years, including well after his 2008 guilty plea for sex crimes in Florida.
Among the correspondence are plans for a 2017 stay at Epstein's New York residence. Other missives discuss mundane logistics for other visits, meetings and phone calls with Epstein.
Barak has acknowledged regularly visiting Epstein on his trips to New York and flying on his private plane, but maintains he never observed any inappropriate behaviour or parties. Barak served as Israel's prime minister from 1999 to 2001 and later served as its defense minister. 
Howard Lutnick
President Donald Trump's commerce secretary visited Epstein's private Caribbean island with his family on at least one occasion, records released Friday show. That appears to contradict prior statements he's made claiming he cut ties with the disgraced financier, who he's called &ldquo;gross,&rdquo; decades ago.
But emails show Lutnick and his wife accepted an invitation to Little St James in the US Virgin Islands in December 2012 and planned to arrive by yacht with their children.
The former chairman of Newmark, a major commercial real estate firm, also had drinks on another occasion in 2011 with Epstein and corresponded with him about the construction of a building across the street from both of their homes.
The Commerce Department, in a statement, said Lutnick had &ldquo;limited interactions with Mr Epstein in the presence of his wife and has never been accused of wrongdoing.&rdquo; 
Sergey Brin
The billionaire Google co-founder made plans to meet with Epstein and Maxwell at his townhouse in New York years before he was publicly accused of sexually abusing underage girls, emails show.
In one exchange in 2003, Maxwell invited him to join her at a screening of the Renee Zellweger film &ldquo;Down with Love&rdquo; in New York. She followed up a few weeks later to invite him to a &ldquo;happily casual and relaxed&rdquo; dinner at Epstein's house. Brin offered to bring along Google's then-CEO Eric Schmidt.
Spokespersons for Google didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment Saturday. 
Steve Bannon
The one-time adviser to Trump exchanged hundreds of friendly texts with Epstein, some sent months before his 2019 arrest and jailhouse suicide. The two discussed politics, travel and a documentary Bannon was said to be planning that would help salvage Epstein's reputation.
One 2018 exchange, for example, focused on Trump's threats at the time to oust Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. In a 2019 message, Bannon asked Epstein if he could supply his plane to pick him up in Rome.
Bannon hasn't responded to emails seeking comment. 
Miroslav Lajcak
A national security adviser to the Slovakian prime minister, Lajcak resigned Saturday after his past communications with Epstein appeared in Friday's document release. Opposition parties and a nationalist partner in Fico's governing coalition had called for him to step down.
Lajcak, a former Slovak foreign minister and a onetime president of the UN General Assembly, has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but was photographed meeting with Epstein in the years between his initial release from jail and his subsequent indictment in 2019 on sex trafficking charges.
He said his correspondence with Epstein were part of his diplomatic duties.

Elon Musk-owned X announced new safeguards to stop its AI chatbot Grok from generating sexualised images of real people, amid investigations and bans by several governments worldwide.

Microblogging platform X has implemented technological measures to prevent Grok from generating images of real people in revealing clothing in jurisdictions where it is illegal, following backlash over obscene deepfakes created by the AI chatbot.
This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers, X said on its official 'Safety' handle.
Further, image creation and editing via the Grok account on X are now only available to paid subscribers. The platform said this adds an extra layer of protection, ensuring that individuals who attempt to abuse Grok to violate the law or platform policies can be held accountable.
"We now geoblock the ability of all users to generate images of real people in bikinis, underwear, and similar attire via the Grok account and in Grok in X in those jurisdictions where it's illegal," the post said. X also said it has implemented measures to prevent editing of images of real people in revealing clothing.
"This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers," the platform added. X emphasised that all AI prompts and generated content must still adhere to its safety rules. "Whether content is created by free or paid users, our Safety team works around the clock to add safeguards, remove violating content, suspend accounts when necessary, and collaborate with governments and law enforcement," it said.
X reiterated its commitment to a safe platform, with zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, and unwanted sexual content. "We take action to remove high-priority violative content, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and non-consensual nudity," the post said. Accounts seeking such content are reported to law enforcement as necessary.
The platform recently removed about 3,500 pieces of content and deleted over 600 accounts after the Indian IT Ministry raised concerns about obscene material linked to Grok. X assured authorities it would comply with Indian laws.
Governments worldwide, including India, have increased pressure on Grok over content moderation, data safety, and non-consensual sexually explicit images flooding the platform. On January 2, the IT Ministry directed X to remove all vulgar, obscene, and unlawful content generated by Grok, warning of action under the law if it failed to comply.
The ministry asked X to submit a detailed action-taken report covering technical and organisational measures, the oversight role of the Chief Compliance Officer, actions against offending content, and mechanisms for compliance with reporting requirements. It highlighted misuse of Grok to create fake accounts or manipulate images of women in a derogatory manner, noting this as a serious failure of platform safeguards.
The government emphasised that compliance with the IT Act and rules is mandatory, and failure to observe due diligence obligations could result in loss of safe harbour under section 79 of the IT Act and other legal consequences. X was asked to enforce user terms and AI usage restrictions, including suspension and termination of violating accounts, and to remove all illegal content without delay.
X&rsquo;s initial detailed response was seen as reiterating respect for Indian laws and content policies but lacking specific actions on Grok AI obscene content. The IT Ministry sought more concrete details on content takedowns and preventive measures.
Following this, X admitted its mistakes and assured compliance with Indian laws. Apart from India, the UK and EU have also pressured X over the Grok deepfake image issue.

Elon Musk highlighted India&rsquo;s contribution to US talent, strongly supported the H-1B visa programme, and urged young Indian entrepreneurs to focus on creating value rather than profits in an interview on &lsquo;People by WTF&rsquo;.

The US has been an &ldquo;immense beneficiary&rdquo; of talent from India, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said, and voiced strong support for the H1B visa programme, cautioning that shutting it down would "actually be very bad&rdquo; for America.
The US tech billionaire made the remarks in an interview with investor and entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath on his podcast &lsquo;People by WTF&rsquo;, released on Sunday.
"Yes, I think America has benefited immensely from talented Indians who have come to America... America has been an immense beneficiary of talent from India,&rdquo; Musk said.
On the H-1B visa, the Tesla CEO said, while there has been some misuse of the work visa programme, he strongly believes that it should not be shut down.
&ldquo;It would be accurate to say that... some of the outsourcing companies have gamed the system on the H-1B front. And we need to stop the gaming of the system.
"But I'm certainly not in the school of thought that we should shut down the H-1B programme. That's where some on the right are. I think they don't realise that that would actually be very bad,&rdquo; Musk said.
His comments come at a time when the US has launched a massive crackdown to check abuse of the H-1B visa programme, used extensively by American technology companies to employ foreign workers.
Indian professionals, including technology workers and physicians, form one of the largest groups of H-1B visa holders.
In September, US President Donald Trump issued a Proclamation titled &lsquo;Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers&rsquo; as an important initial step to reform the H-1B nonimmigrant visa programme.
Under the Proclamation, Trump announced a one-time fee of USD 100,000 on new H-1B visas, a move expected to impact Indian professionals seeking to work in the US.
Responding to a question on whether the US &ldquo;seems to have become anti-immigration to a certain extent&rdquo;, Musk said there are different schools of thought on the issue, and there is no unanimity.
He, however, pointed out that under the Joe Biden administration, "it was basically a total free-for-all, with like no border controls, which, you know, unless you've got border controls, you're not a country&rdquo;.
Musk alleged there was "massive" illegal immigration under Biden, which created a negative selection effect.
&ldquo;If there's a massive financial incentive to come to the US illegally and get all these government benefits, then you necessarily create a diffusion gradient for people to come to the US just as an incentive structure. I think that obviously made no sense,&rdquo; he said, stressing the need for border controls.
Musk said the left wanted open borders irrespective of the situation or "if the person coming in is a criminal", while the right believed American jobs were being taken by highly skilled workers from abroad.
&ldquo;I don't know how real that is. My direct observation is that there's always a scarcity of talented people. So from my standpoint, I'm like, we have a lot of difficulty finding enough talented people to get these difficult tasks done, and so more talented people would be good,&rdquo; he said.
Musk noted that some companies are making it more of a cost thing, &ldquo;where it's like, okay, if they can employ someone for a fraction of the cost of an American citizen, then I guess these other companies would hire people just to save costs".
However, at his companies, the tech billionaire said, they are just trying to get the most talented people in the world.
"We pay way above average, so... that's not my experience, but that's what a lot of people do complain about,&rdquo; he said.
Asked what message he had for young Indian entrepreneurs, Musk said he respected &ldquo;anyone who wants to build&rdquo;.
&ldquo;Aim to make more than you take, be a net contributor to society... If you want to create something valuable... pursue providing useful products and services... then money will come as a natural consequence," he said.
"Are you a value creator? That's what really matters," Musk said.

S Chandrasekhar was a renowned Indian-American astrophysicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983 &ldquo;for his theoretical studies of the physical processes of importance to the structure and evolution of the stars&rdquo;.
When asked if Zilis had spent any time in India, Musk said she was given up for adoption when she was a baby and grew up in Canada.
"I think her father was like an exchange student at the university, or something like that. I'm not sure of the exact details, but, just kind of thing where I don't know... she was given up for adoption,&rdquo; he said.
Musk has four children with Zilis - twins Strider and Azure, a daughter Arcadia and son Seldon Lycurgus.
Zilis is a director of operations and special projects at one of Musk&rsquo;s companies Neuralink.

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison wrested the title of the world's richest man from longtime holder Elon Musk early Wednesday, according to wealth tracker Bloomberg, as stock in his software giant rocketed more than a third in a stunning few minutes of trading.
A college dropout, the 81-year-old Ellison is now worth USD 393 billion, Bloomberg says, several billion more than Musk, who became the world's richest for the first time four years ago. Stock in one of Musk's biggest holdings, Tesla, has been moving in the opposite direction of Oracle's, dropping 14 per cent so far this year as of Tuesday.
The switch in the ranking came after a blockbuster earnings report from Oracle powered by multibillion dollar orders from customers as the artificial-intelligence race heats up.
Another news organization with a long history of tallying the world's richest, Forbes, still has Musk at the top, at USD 439 billion. Bloomberg put his net worth at USD 385 billion. "I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing," Musk said in an interview with CBS News, an excerpt of which aired late Tuesday.
Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act" -- which passed the US House last week and now moves to the Senate -- offers sprawling tax relief and spending cuts and is the centerpiece of his domestic agenda.
But critics warn it will decimate health care and balloon the national deficit by as much as $4 trillion over a decade.
"A bill can be big, or it can be beautiful. But I don't know if it can be both. My personal opinion," Musk said in the interview, which will be aired in full on Sunday.
The White House sought to play down any differences over US government spending, without directly naming Musk.
"The Big Beautiful Bill is NOT an annual budget bill," Trump's Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said on Musk's social network, X, after the tech titan's comments aired.
All DOGE cuts would have to be carried out through a separate bill targeting the federal bureaucracy, according to US Senate rules, Miller added.
But Musk's comments represented a rare split with the Republican president whom he helped propel back to power, as the largest donor to his 2024 election campaign.

Trump tasked Musk with cutting government spending as head of DOGE, but after a feverish start Musk announced in late April he was mostly stepping back to run his companies again.
Musk complained in a separate interview with the Washington Post that DOGE, which operated out of the White House with a staff of young technicians, had become a lightning rod for criticism.
"DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything," Musk told the newspaper at the Starbase launch site in Texas ahead of Space X's latest launch on Tuesday.
"Something bad would happen anywhere, and we would get blamed for it even if we had nothing to do with it."
Musk blamed entrenched US bureaucracy for DOGE's failure to achieve all of its goals -- although reports say his domineering style and lack of familiarity with the currents of Washington politics were also major factors.
"The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized," he said. "I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in DC, to say the least."
Musk has previously admitted that he did not achieve all his goals with DOGE even though tens of thousands of people were removed from government payrolls and several departments were gutted or shut down.
Musk's own businesses suffered in the meantime.
Protesters against the cost-cutting targeted Tesla dealerships while arsonists even torched a few of the electric vehicles, and the firm's profits slumped.
"People were burning Teslas. Why would you do that? That&rsquo;s really uncool," Musk told the Post.
Musk has also been focusing on Space X after a series of fiery setbacks to his dreams of colonizing Mars -- the latest of which came on Tuesday when its prototype Starship exploded over the Indian Ocean.
The tycoon last week also said he would pull back from spending his fortune on politics, having spent around a quarter of a billion dollars to support Trump.

While Musk voiced concerns over the delay, NASA has maintained that the astronauts were never in danger, confirming that they were healthy and in good spirits.
Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams had launched to the ISS aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft in June 2024, initially expected to stay for only 10 days.
However, after a problematic journey and arrival, NASA and Boeing took several weeks to address issues with the spacecraft. Ultimately, it was deemed too risky to return the astronauts aboard the Starliner.
In August 2024, NASA officially requested SpaceX to return the astronauts as part of the Crew-9 mission.
SpaceX, led by Musk, has been running regular ISS crew rotations every six months, and the astronauts were assigned to Crew-9.
To accommodate their return, NASA adjusted the Crew-9 mission, removing two of the four astronauts initially scheduled to fly aboard SpaceX's Dragon capsule in September.
As a result, only an astronaut and cosmonaut were launched on that mission, with Williams and Wilmore slated for their return at the end of the expedition in February 2025.
However, in December, another delay was announced as SpaceX needed more time to prepare the new Dragon spacecraft for the upcoming Crew-10 mission. This meant the Crew-9 mission, including Williams and Wilmore, would not return until late March, after Crew-10 had reached the ISS.
Musk&rsquo;s recent post, however, hinted that the Crew Dragon capsule, named 'Freedom,' might make an early departure from the ISS, potentially bringing the two astronauts back sooner than initially planned.
