Several people in West Bengal and the northeast, including Kolkata and Assam&rsquo;s Guwahati, were seen coming out on the streets as a precautionary measure.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property, officials said.&nbsp;

A powerful magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on Friday, killing at least one person and triggering regional tsunami warnings that were later lifted.
The quake hit about 20 kilometres (12 miles) off Manay in the Mindanao region at 9:43 am (0143 GMT), according to the United States Geological Survey.
One person was killed when a wall collapsed in Mati city, the largest population hub near the quake's epicentre, police said.
Philippine authorities issued a tsunami warning and ordered evacuations of coastal communities on the country's eastern seaboard deemed at risk from waves of up to three metres (10 feet) high.
However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center lifted its alert for the Philippines, Palau and Indonesia at around noon, saying "there is no longer a tsunami threat from this earthquake".
Wes Caasi, a local official in Tagum city, northwest of Manay, told AFP that a government event at the city hall was thrown into chaos as "the people panicked, they screamed and ran".
Confirming videos that circulated on social media, Caasi said he saw city workers scrambling down a 202-metre-high metal Christmas tree they were decorating when the quake struck.
Other witnesses said they saw students and workers poured out of schools, office buildings and shopping malls.
So far, the tremors seem to have caused minor and scattered damage, according to witnesses.
Dianne Lacorda, a police officer in Davao Oriental province, told AFP that power and communication lines had been severed and authorities were struggling to assess the damage in some areas.
The provincial government said on Facebook that it had suspended classes "until further notice" and had sent non-essential public workers home.
 - 'Shaking was so strong' -
Christine Sierte, a teacher in the town of Compostela near Manay, told AFP she was in the middle of an online meeting when the violent shaking started.
"It was very slow at first, then it got stronger.... That's the longest time of my life. We weren't able to walk out of the building immediately because the shaking was so strong," she said.
"The ceilings of some offices fell, but luckily no one was injured," she said, adding that some of the school's approximately 1,000 students "suffered panic attacks and difficulty in breathing".
Kath Cortez, a local journalist based in Davao city to the west of Manay, told AFP that small cracks had appeared in the ground floor walls of her family's home.
"I was surprised by the strength" of the quake, she said, adding that members of her family ran out of the house.
Around the same time as the Philippine quake, USGS reported a shallow 6.2 magnitude tremor just over 140 kilometres southeast of Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.
Another quake struck on Tuesday near the Papua New Guinea's second-largest city of Lae. No major damage was reported.

Aid agencies on Wednesday urged the international community to increase funding to Afghanistan after a major earthquake killed at least 1,400 people and injured thousands more.
Just a few countries have publicly committed money since Sunday night's 6.0-magnitude quake struck several provinces in the mountainous and remote east, levelling villages and trapping people under rubble.
It's the latest crisis to beset the country, and the third strong quake since the Taliban seized power in 2021.
The United Kingdom is giving 1 million pounds (USD 1.3 million) to help. This money will go to aid organisations and not the Taliban government, which the UK doesn't recognise. South Korea on Wednesday said that it would provide USD 1 million through the United Nations.
Australia on Thursday pledged USD 1 million and said it worked with established partners to ensure its support helped those in need and not the Taliban government.
A further USD 11 million is being released through funds overseen by the UN and the European Union, while development agencies are channelling money through nongovernmental organisations or charities.
But many traditional donor countries have yet to come forward with financial assistance. The US was once the largest humanitarian funder to Afghanistan until it gutted this support earlier this year.
&ldquo;Afghans are weary of this never-ending crisis upon crisis, which they have to meet with dwindling external help and their own often desperate efforts,&rdquo; said Thamindri De Silva, national director of World Vision Afghanistan.
&ldquo;International governments are queasy about investing in the longer-term solutions that can address the drivers of crises, such as the lack of preparedness, rural health care, and fragile infrastructure that made the impacts of these earthquakes so devastating.&rdquo; World Vision has launched a private fundraising campaign, De Silva added.
Some governments and ambassadors have pledged assistance in kind to Afghanistan. India is sending tents and food. The United Arab Emirates dispatched a rescue team and essential relief supplies.
Taliban authorities have appealed for international help despite restricting and, in some cases, interfering with the work of NGOs.
International funding to Afghanistan has fallen dramatically since the Taliban takeover, and just 28 per cent of the humanitarian funding target has been met this year.
Local resources were stretched to breaking point, and the lack of money was limiting the scale and speed of the response to the quake, said Jacopo Caridi, the country director for the Norwegian Refugee Council.
Rescue teams have struggled to reach affected communities in Kunar, the worst-affected province, hampered by rockfalls and landslides. Some are walking for hours to deliver aid and medicine, often up steep hills. People from surrounding areas have rushed in to help.
&ldquo;The earthquake is not a stand-alone disaster,&rdquo; Caridi said. &ldquo;It hit communities that were already struggling with displacement, food insecurity, drought, and the return of hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees from neighbouring countries. Our teams in Kunar report that families are sleeping in the open, enduring repeated aftershocks.&rdquo; On Wednesday, UN spokesperson St&eacute;phane Dujarric told reporters that more than 25 square kilometres of land was contaminated by mines and explosive ordnance in earthquake-affected areas because of years of conflict.
He said that assessments of the quake's impact and response efforts have been &ldquo;very challenging&rdquo; because of blocked roads, but the distribution of food and shelter materials and health assistance has started. The priorities are shelter, medical supplies, drinking water, food and sanitation.
&ldquo;The needs remain immense, and we call on all those who are able to provide support for the earthquake response to do so,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;

A powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan at the weekend killed more 1,400 and injured 3,000 others, the Taliban government said Tuesday, making it one of the deadliest to hit the country in decades.
The casualty toll has mounted steadily since the 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit late Sunday night, devastating remote areas in mountainous provinces near the border with Pakistan.
Chief Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on X Tuesday that 1,411 people were killed and 3,124 people were injured in the hard-hit province of Kunar alone.
Another dozen people were killed and hundreds injured in neighbouring Nangarhar province.
The earthquake could impact "hundreds of thousands", said United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan Indrika Ratwatte.
Rescuers were still desperately searching Tuesday for survivors in the rubble of homes flattened in Kunar.
Emergency "operations continued throughout the night", the head of the Kunar Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Ehsanullah Ehsan, told AFP.
He said there were "still injured people left in the distant villages" in need of evacuation to hospitals.
Villagers joined the rescue efforts, using their bare hands to clear debris from mud and stone homes built into steep valleys.
Obaidullah Stoman, 26, who travelled to the village of Wadir to search for a friend, was overwhelmed by the level of destruction.
"I'm searching here, but I didn't see him. It was very difficult for me to see the conditions here," he told AFP.
"There is only rubble left."
The dead, including children, were wrapped in white shrouds by villagers who prayed over their bodies before burying them.
Some of the hardest-hit villages remain inaccessible due to blocked roads, the UN migration agency told AFP.
The earthquake epicentre was about 27 kilometres (17 miles) from Jalalabad, according to the US Geological Survey, which said it struck just eight kilometres below the Earth's surface.
Such relatively shallow quakes can cause more damage, especially since the majority of Afghans live in low-rise, mud-brick homes vulnerable to collapse.
After decades of conflict, Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world, facing a protracted humanitarian crisis and the influx of millions of Afghans forced back to the country by neighbours Pakistan and Iran in recent years.
Since the Taliban seized power in 2021, foreign aid to the country has been slashed, undermining the already impoverished nation's ability to respond to disasters.
The United States was the largest aid donor until early 2025, when all but a sliver of funds were cancelled after President Donald Trump took office.
In June, the United Nations said it was drastically scaling back its global humanitarian aid plans due to the "deepest funding cuts ever".
On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement the organisation was working with authorities to "swiftly assess needs, provide emergency assistance and stand ready to mobilise additional support", and announced an initial $5 million.

Many of those living in the quake-hit villages were among the more than four million Afghans who have returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan in recent years.
Helicopters shuttled the injured from the remote village of Wadir in Nurgal district to hospitals in the nearest city, Jalalabad.
Fourteen-year-old Akhlaq was injured and evacuated to the hospital, but five members of his family were killed when the earthquake shook Nurgal.
"Our whole house collapsed, my brothers and father were all buried. Only I survived and made it out," he told AFP. "Then I heard my father's voice and I managed to rescue him."
"There are victims who are still under the rubble, but there is nobody to help them and pull them out."
Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, near the junction of the Eurasia and India tectonic plates.
In October 2023, western Herat province was devastated by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake, which killed more than 1,500 people and damaged or destroyed more than 63,000 homes.
A 5.9-magnitude quake struck the eastern province of Paktika in June 2022, killing more than 1,000 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless.

&ldquo;The earthquake caused landslides in some areas, blocking roads, but they have been reopened, and the remaining roads will be reopened to allow access to areas that were difficult to reach.&rdquo; The 6.0 magnitude quake struck late Sunday night in several provinces, flattening villages and leaving people trapped under the rubble of homes constructed mostly of mud bricks and wood and unable to withstand the shock.
The majority of casualties were in Kunar province, where many people live in steep river valleys separated by high mountains. Helicopters are being used to evacuate the injured to hospital, and aid agencies said their teams were making journeys on foot to reach the most isolated areas because of the rough terrain and ruined roads.
The Taliban government has appealed for international help.
The UK has pledged 1 million pounds (USD 1.3 million) in emergency funding to be split between humanitarian agencies rather than the Taliban government, which the UK does not recognise.
Other governments, including China, have offered disaster relief assistance.
It is the third major earthquake since the Taliban seized power in 2021, and the latest crisis to beset Afghanistan, which is reeling from deep cuts to aid funding, a weak economy, and millions of people forcibly returned from Iran and Pakistan.
Mark Calder, advocacy director at the World Vision Afghanistan aid agency, warned of more than 250,000 people &ldquo;swelling the ranks&rdquo; of those needing help to access basic needs and services if resources were not made available.
&ldquo;This will mean more people living without proper shelter, access to nutritious food to feed their families, clean water, and by extension malnutrition and disease in a context where the healthcare system simply can't stretch,&rdquo; said Calder.

The 6.0 magnitude quake late Sunday hit towns in the province of Kunar, near the city of Jalalabad in neighbouring Nangarhar province, causing extensive damage.
One resident in Nurgal district, one of the worst-affected areas in Kunar, said nearly the entire village was destroyed.
&ldquo;Children are under the rubble. The elderly are under the rubble. Young people are under the rubble,&rdquo; said the villager, who did not give his name.
&ldquo;We need help here,&rdquo; he pleaded. &ldquo;We need people to come here and join us. Let us pull out the people who are buried. There is no one who can come and remove dead bodies from under the rubble.&rdquo; The quake hit just before midnight and was centred 27 kilometres east-northeast of Jalalabad at a depth of 8 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. Shallower quakes tend to cause more damage. Several aftershocks followed.
Footage showed rescuers taking injured people on stretchers from collapsed buildings and into helicopters as people frantically dug through rubble with their hands.
The Taliban government's chief spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, told a press conference on Monday that the death toll had risen to at least 800 with more than 2,500 injured. He said most of the casualties were in Kunar.
The quake was felt in parts of Pakistan, including the capital Islamabad. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Homes collapsed and people screamed for help Eastern Afghanistan is mountainous, with remote areas and the quake has worsened communications. Blocked roads are forcing aid workers to walk four or five hours to reach survivors. Dozens of flights have operated in and out of Nangarhar Airport, transporting the injured to hospitals.
Buildings in Afghanistan tend to be low-rise constructions, mostly of concrete and brick, with homes in rural and outlying areas made from mud bricks and wood. Many are poorly built.
One survivor described seeing homes collapse before his eyes and people screaming for help.
Sadiqullah, who lives in the Maza Dara area of Nurgal, said he was woken by a deep boom that sounded like a storm approaching. Like many Afghans, he uses only one name.
He ran to where his children were sleeping and rescued three of them. He was about to return to grab the rest of his family when the room fell on top of him.
&ldquo;I was half-buried and unable to get out,&rdquo; he told The Associated Press by phone from Nangarhar Hospital. &ldquo;My wife and two sons are dead, and my father is injured and in hospital with me. We were trapped for three to four hours until people from other areas arrived and pulled me out." It felt like the whole mountain was shaking, he said.
'Numbers may increase' Rescue operations were underway and medical teams from Kunar, Nangarhar and the capital, Kabul, have arrived in the area, said Sharafat Zaman, a health ministry spokesman.
Zaman said many areas had not been able to report casualty figures and that &ldquo;the numbers were expected to change&rdquo; as deaths and injuries are reported.
The chief spokesman, Mujahid, said helicopters had reached some areas but road travel was difficult. &ldquo;There are some villages where the injured and dead haven't been recovered from the rubble, so that's why the numbers may increase,&rdquo; he told journalists.
Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said the earthquake intensified existing humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan and urged international donors to support relief efforts.
&ldquo;This adds death and destruction to other challenges including drought and the forced return of millions of Afghans from neighbouring countries,&rdquo; Grandi wrote on X. &ldquo;Hopefully the donor community will not hesitate to support relief efforts.&rdquo; Search and rescue support Entire roads and communities have been cut off from accessing nearby towns or hospitals and 2,000 casualties were reported within the first 12 hours, said Sherine Ibrahim, the country director for the aid agency.
&ldquo;Although we have been able to act fast, we are profoundly fearful for the additional strain this will have on the overall humanitarian response in Afghanistan," said Ibrahim. " Global funding cuts have dramatically hampered our ability to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.&rdquo; The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said in a statement that immediate needs include search and rescue support, emergency healthcare and medical supplies, food, clean water, and restoring road access to reach isolated communities.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he was deeply saddened by events in Afghanistan. &ldquo;Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are ready to extend all possible support in this regard,&rdquo; he said on X.
Pakistan has expelled tens of thousands of Afghans in the past year, many of them living in the country for decades as refugees. At least 1.2 million Afghans have been forced to return from Iran and Pakistan so far this year, according to a June report by UNHCR.
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Afghanistan on October 7, 2023, followed by strong aftershocks. The Taliban government estimated at least 4,000 people perished in that quake.
The UN gave a lower death toll of about 1,500. It was the deadliest natural disaster to strike Afghanistan in recent memory.

A massive rescue operation was underway in Afghanistan Monday, after a strong earthquake and multiple aftershocks flattened homes in a remote, mountainous region, killing more than 800 people, the Taliban authorities said.
The earthquake struck just before midnight, shaking buildings from Kabul to neighbouring Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.
More than 1.2 million people likely felt strong or very strong shaking, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Near the epicentre in the east of Afghanistan, around 800 people were killed and 2,500 injured in remote Kunar province alone, chief Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
Another 12 people were killed and 255 injured in neighbouring Nangarhar province, he added.
"Numerous houses were destroyed," interior ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani told AFP.
The majority of Afghans live in low-rise, mud-brick homes that are vulnerable to collapse.
Some of the most severely impacted villages in remote Kunar provinces "remain inaccessible due to road blockages", the UN migration agency warned in a statement to AFP.
The Taliban authorities and the United Nations mobilised rescue efforts to hard-hit areas. The defence ministry said 40 flight sorties had so far been carried out.
A member of the agricultural department in Kunar's Nurgal district said people had rushed to clear blocked roads to isolated villages, but that badly affected areas were remote and had limited telecoms networks.
"There is a lot of fear and tension... Children and women were screaming. We had never experienced anything like this in our lives," Ijaz Ulhaq Yaad told AFP.
He said that many living in quake-hit villages were among the more than four million Afghans who have returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan in recent years.
"They wanted to build their homes here."
The quake, which struck at a relatively shallow depth of eight kilometres, was 27 kilometres from the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, according to the USGS.
Nangarhar and Kunar provinces border Pakistan, with the Torkham crossing the site of many waves of Afghan returnees deported or forced to leave, often with no work and nowhere to go.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres added his condolences to those shared by the Taliban government and several nations.
"I stand in full solidarity with the people of Afghanistan after the devastating earthquake that hit the country earlier today," he said.

After the initial quake, a series of at least five aftershocks followed throughout the night, with the strongest being one of magnitude 5.2 just after 4:00 am (2330 GMT Sunday).

Thousands of rescuers were searching for survivors in freezing conditions Wednesday after a devastating earthquake in Tibet region killed at least 126 people.
Videos published by state broadcaster CCTV on Wednesday showed rescue workers pulling injured victims from the rubble of collapsed buildings and carrying them to safety.
Footage also showed a man in a dusty, thick winter coat carrying a crying child piggyback as a rescue worker draped a jacket over him.
Rescues were also seen setting up makeshift tents and examining the injured inside.
At least 126 people have been confirmed dead and 188 others injured in the Tuesday morning quake that struck rural, high-altitude Tingri county, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Mount Everest near Tibet's border with Nepal.
Local officials said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon that there had been no increases in the number of people killed or injured since the last update on Tuesday night.
More than 3,600 houses had collapsed due to the earthquake and 187 relocation sites have been set up, accommodating 46,500 people, said Hong Li, director of Tibet's Emergency Management Department.
The affected region is a "high-altitude, cold plateau area with weak infrastructure such as transportation, communication, and electricity", Hong said.
"The climate is cold, with large temperature differences between day and night, and low nighttime temperatures, making it difficult to maintain warmth and protect against the cold," Hong said, adding that search and rescue efforts have transitioned to the resettlement of affected residents and post-disaster reconstruction.
The temperature in Tingri will drop to as low as minus 16 degrees Celsius (3.2 Fahrenheit) Thursday morning, according to the China Meteorological Administration. The county sits at an average altitude of 4,500 metres above sea level.
Authorities earlier said more than 12,000 people, including firefighters, soldiers, police officers and professional rescuers, had been deployed, Xinhua reported.
Aid including tents, quilts and cold-weather equipment had been dispatched by central authorities, it added.
When tourist Meng Lingkang arrived in the town of Lhatse, 65 kilometres from the epicentre, he saw "the buildings had cracked open".
"Some of the older houses collapsed, and a large part of the buildings made from bricks had cracked open, with big fissures," the 23-year-old told AFP.
"There were quite a few (rescue vehicles). One after the other they arrived," he added.

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) measured the quake's magnitude as 6.8, while the US Geological Survey reported it as 7.1.
The area most affected is surrounded by mountainous terrain on the Chinese side of Everest.
Tingri, the epicentre, is home to around 62,000 people and much less developed than urban centres like Tibet's capital Lhasa.
Many of the fallen houses appeared constructed of traditional materials such as stone, mud bricks and wooden beams.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for "all-out search and rescue efforts", CCTV said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "profoundly saddened" by the lives lost in the earthquake.
"The United Nations is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide support if requested," Guterres said in a statement.
French President Emmanuel Macron offered assistance to those affected, while Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed their condolences.
Tingri is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Shigatse, home to the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama, one of the most important spiritual figures in Tibetan Buddhism after the Dalai Lama.
The Dalai Lama said he was "deeply saddened".
"I offer my prayers for those who have lost their lives and extend my wishes for a swift recovery to all who have been injured," the exiled spiritual leader said in a statement.
AFP is unable to report from Tibet due to restrictions on foreign media.
Beijing imposes strict control on access to the Himalayan region, which it considers an inalienable part of its territory.
China took control of Tibet in 1951 before the Dalai Lama fled into exile in 1959.
Tibet had previously been largely autonomous, following the fall of the Qing dynasty which lasted three centuries.

In addition to capital Kathmandu, areas around Nepal's Lobuche -- in the high mountains near Everest -- were also rattled by the tremor and aftershocks on Tuesday.
No injuries or deaths have been reported so far in the country or in India, where tremors were felt in Bihar state.
Tuesday's quake was the most powerful recorded within a 200-kilometre radius in the last five years, the CENC said.
A quake in December 2023 in northwest China killed 148 people and displaced thousands in Gansu province.
