Shortly after Ukraine's surprise drone attack on Russian airfields, the Business Ukraine magazine posted on X: "Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy = King of Drones. Who 'doesn't have any cards' now?" The post accompanied a drawing of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a king on a card. Zelenskyy was seen holding swords, and several drones were drawn on the card.
The message was unmissable. In March this year, during a dramatic face-off in the Oval Office in Washington, DC, US President Donald Trump told Zelenskyy, "You don't have the cards. With us, you have the cards, but without us, you don't have any cards." Two months later, Kyiv has pulled off a drone attack that has taken the mighty Russian establishment by surprise. While the scale of damage is yet to be confirmed, the sheer audacity of the attack speaks volumes and pushes Ukraine ahead in the war of perception.
Interestingly, in a post on X after the drone strikes, Zelenskyy referred to the operation -- which Ukraine has referred to as Operation Spider Web -- as having achieved an "absolutely brilliant result". Six words that followed were significant: "a result achieved solely by Ukraine". The message was aimed at Washington DC, after Trump emphasised in the March meeting that Ukraine had no chance against Russia without US support.

Kyiv has shocked Moscow -- and the world -- by targeting military installations deep inside Russian territory in what it described as its "most long range operation". According to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), its drones struck at least 41 aircraft used to "bomb Ukrainian cities". These include Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers and the A-50 radar detection and command aircraft. Moscow has not given out numbers indicating the scale of damage, but confirmed that its airfields in Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions were targeted using first-person-view (FPV) drones. It also said several aircraft "caught fire" in the offensive.
The planning for the drone offensive was immaculate. Drones were smuggled into Russia over 18 months. They were hidden in trucks parked near Russian airbases. At the time of the attack, the roofs of wooden cabins on these trucks opened remotely and the drones launched towards the targets.
The Timing Of Ukraine's Offensive
The timing of Ukraine carrying out these attacks is significant. Russian and Ukrainian officials will be meeting in Istanbul today to discuss plans to end the three-year war, Europe's largest conflict since World War II. The timing of the drone attack suggests that Ukraine would try to leverage more during the talks, having demonstrated its striking capabilities.
In his remarks after the attack, Zelenskyy said Ukraine continues to propose a full and unconditional ceasefire, along with all rational and dignified steps that could lead to a lasting and reliable peace. "The Ukrainian proposal we presented to the Russians is logical and realistic. The Russians, however, have not shared their 'memorandum' with anyone - we don't have it, the Turkish side doesn't have it, and the American side doesn't have the Russian document either. Despite this, we will try to achieve at least some progress on the path toward peace," he said.

Two packets attached to the drone containing 2.6 kg of suspected heroin were also recovered from the UAV that was found in Rattan Khurd village, the spokesperson added.
A third drone was intercepted on Friday night along this front. However, it could not be recovered as it fell on the Pakistani side, he said.

Pyongyang carried out drills in response this week, the official Korean Central News Agency said, including testing of the new underwater nuclear delivery system.
"This nuclear underwater attack drone can be deployed at any coast and port or towed by a surface ship for operation," the report said.
The weapon's mission is to "stealthily infiltrate into operational waters and make a super-scale radioactive tsunami ... to destroy naval striker groups and major operational ports of the enemy," it added.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally oversaw the tests, KCNA reported, and images released by Pyongyang's Rodong Sinmun newspaper showed a smiling Kim and what appeared to be an underwater explosion.
The agency also said Pyongyang had fired strategic cruise missiles "tipped with a test warhead simulating a nuclear warhead" on Wednesday.
But analysts questioned North Korea's claims.
The idea that Pyongyang has "a nuclear-capable underwater drone should be met with skepticism," said Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul.

The video posted on Twitter by the US European Command, shows the Russian jet approaching the US Air Force's unmanned drone and releasing fuel just as it passes over it.&nbsp;
The video transmission suddenly stops and when it resumes the propeller of the drone can be seen intact. Meanwhile, the Russian jet begins its second approach towards the drone. It again passes over the MQ-9 dumping more fuel. The video transmission is lost again and when it starts again one of the propellers could be seen damaged after the second manoeuvre.

Hetaram Satnami, a physically challenged man who lives in a remote village in Odisha's Nuapada district, had to travel 2 km every month through a dense forest to collect his government pension.
This month, however, he did not have to face the ordeal as a drone came with the cash and dropped it at his house in Bhutkapada village in Bhaleswar panchayat area.
"The sarpanch sent the money with the help of a drone. It's a big relief for me as the panchayat office is over 2 km away from the village, which is surrounded by a dense forest," said a beaming Satnami, who is a beneficiary of the state's Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.
Sarpanch Saroj Agarwal said she bought a drone online after getting to know about Satnami's ordeal.
"In our panchayat area, there is a village located in the forest, Bhutkapada. A physically-challenged man, Hetaram Satanami, lives in that village. He can't move, since birth," Agarwal said.
"I enrolled him for the pension under the state scheme. I have seen how things are sent through drones in other countries. That's why I placed the order for a drone and got the money delivered to his doorstep," she said.
Subadar Pradhan, the block development officer (BDO) of Nuapada, said it was made possible with Agarwal's own initiative as the government does not have the provision to buy such devices to deliver services.
Drones are being used across the world to deliver different goods, including medicines, parcels, groceries and food, but delivering cash, that too in India, is a first-of-a-kind initiative.

&nbsp;Around two kilograms of anti-tuberculosis drugs were delivered to a hospital in the hills of Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district from AIIMS Rishikesh on Thursday, as part of a trial to test the feasibility of using drones in delivery of medical supplies.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the use of drones cut down the delivery time from two hours to just 30 minutes.
"Revolutionizing Healthcare Delivery Using Drones! Successful drone-based trial conducted at AIIMS Rishikesh for transporting anti-TB drugs from AIIMS Helipad to District Hospital Tehri Garhwal. Approximately 40 km aerial distance was covered within 30 minutes, reaching hilly regions conveniently," he said.
Unmanned aerial vehicles or drones are extensively used in agricultural spraying and surveillance among other things.
Despite several trials of delivering medical supplies being conducted across the country, limited evidence is available on the integration of the technology with the existing healthcare system and the analysis of the cost effectiveness of the drone technology in delivering essential medical supplies, he said.
"The present project is intended to test long-term feasibility and develop a model to integrate the technology into the healthcare system as a supplement to existing logistics methods, and suggest ways for long-term sustainability of drone-based delivery of medical supplies, especially TB medicines," Mandaviya said.
The project will also calculate the cost effectiveness of delivering medicines and the transportation of sputum samples to laboratories via drones in Uttarakhand.
Drone-based delivery can also aid in organ transportation in the future.
Mandaviya said the next such drone-based trial is scheduled to be an exercise between AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Jhajjar.

On Monday, the BSF foiled a cross-border drug-smuggling attempt as it recovered a drone along with a packet of heroin near the international border in Amritsar district.
On Sunday, a drone was recovered near the international border in Tarn Taran district along with 3 kg heroin.
On December 3, the BSF personnel recovered about 25 kg heroin, which was air dropped by a Pakistani drone in Fazilka district.

The Mumbai Police have prohibited the flying of private drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft, paragliders, helicopters and hot air balloons from November 13 to December 12 to prevent their possible use for terrorist activities, an official said on Thursday.

The Mumbai Police have prohibited the flying of drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft, paragliders, private helicopters and hot air balloons from November 13 to December 12 to prevent their possible use for terrorist activities, an official said on Thursday.
No activities of the above mentioned private flying objects will be allowed in the Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate limits, except aerial surveillance by city police or by specific permission in writing by the deputy commissioner of police (operations), as per the order issued on Monday.
The order period covers the anniversary of the deadly terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008, in which 166 people were killed.
The city police issued the order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and said any person contravening it shall be punishable under Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by public servant).
"It is likely that terrorists, anti-national elements might make use of drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft, paragliders in their attacks and thereby target VVIPs, endangering the life of public at large, destroy public property and cause disturbance to law and order in the city," the order said.

It is necessary to put certain restrictions on the activities of such elements in the jurisdiction of Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate to prevent any probable sabotage by the use of these flying objects. Hence, some preventive and proactive measures need to be taken, the order said.

The Border Security Force shot down a quad-copter drone suspected to be carrying narcotics on Sunday night along the India-Pakistan international border in the Amritsar region, officials said. &nbsp; This is the second such incident in past three days at this frontier.
The drone weighing 12 kgs had four propellers. It was intercepted and shot down around 9.15 pm near the Rania border post in the Amritsar sector by the troops of the 22nd Battalion of the BSF, they said.

Border Security Force personnel shot down a drone that entered India from the Pakistani side along the international border in Punjab's Gurdaspur early Friday morning.
After spotting the drone, the BSF troops shot it down at 4:35 am on Friday.
Reportedly, the drone was carrying a consignment from Pakistan.
&ldquo;Brave jawans of BSF heard a drone coming from Pakistan side. As soon as it entered India, jawans fired 17 rounds of bullets at it. One of the blades of the drone was damaged. Entire area is being searched. The drone will be analysed," said Prabhakar Joshi, BSF DIG, Gurdaspur.
Following the incident, a massive search operation has been launched in the entire area.
