A court in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh on Tuesday remanded alleged fake cardiologist, Narendra John Camm, linked to the death of seven patients, to police custody for five days.
A day earlier, he was arrested in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
"Chief Judicial Magistrate Sneha Singh remanded Camm to police custody for five days on our request," Public Prosecutor Satish Kapasya told PTI.
Police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Camm amid allegations that he possesses a bogus medical degree on charges of forgery and dishonest misappropriation on a complaint lodged by Damoh district's Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) MK Jain.
Damoh Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrut Kirti Somwanshi had said the accused would be interrogated on questions raised by the CMHO in his complaint.
"In the original complaint (submitted to NHRC), there was a mention of the death of seven patients at Mission Hospital. Another complaint (filed by CMHO Jain) was related to verification of the doctor's degree," the SP had said.
Primary verification revealed the doctor's certificate was fake, Somwanshi said.
The accused was arrested based on charges mentioned in the FIR, the police officer added.

In the report, it was mentioned that the unidentified man had been intentionally shoving batteries into his penile urethra for 'sexual gratification.'
The man admitted that he was regularly inserting foreign objects without them getting stuck inside. However, when he inserted the batteries this time, it moved further up the penile urethra due to repeated failed attempts at self-removal.&nbsp;
The study authors also noted, "To the best of our understanding, this is the first reported case of urethral necrosis with button battery insertion."
The man went to the emergency department with moderate penile pain, severe paraphimosis and obstructive urinary symptoms including weak urinary flow, straining and a sensation of incomplete bladder emptying.&nbsp;
After several failed attempts, doctors were finally able to remove the batteries using forceps. In the study, it was also mentioned that all the extracted batteries were coated with black tar-like material.&nbsp;
The researchers said, "Given the complexity of his injury, it was deemed that formal penile urethral reconstruction would likely require a 3-stage repair."

A video has gone viral on the internet that shows a doctor staging his pre-wedding photoshoot inside an operation theatre of a government-run hospital in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. As the video went viral, the doctor was dismissed from service.&nbsp;
As per reports, the controversy erupted after a video went viral on social media showing the photoshoot, themed on medical procedures, of the contract-based physician at the district hospital in the Bharamasagar area.
Taking to social media platform X, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the doctor who conducted a pre-wedding shoot in the operation theatre of Bharamasagar Government Hospital in Chitradurga has been dismissed from service.
"Government hospital exist for the health care of people and not for personal work. I cannot tolerate such indiscipline from doctors. All contract employees, including doctors and staff performing duties in the health department, should perform their duties as per government service rules," he said in his post.
"I have already instructed the doctors and staff concerned to be careful so that such abuses do not happen in government hospitals," he added.
The minister further said everyone should focus on performing the duty knowing that the facilities provided by the government to such medical facilities are for the health care of the common people.
In the video, the doctor could be seen performing a "surgery" on a patient, while his partner was assisting him. At the end of the video, the man who acted as a patient on whom the surgery was being performed was seen sitting up "post-operation". The video also showed people with cameras and lights present in the operation theatre for the pre-wedding shoot.

The operation was done in 90 seconds, according to the doctors. The 28-year-old mother, who has suffered three miscarriages, and her husband expressed their desire to continue the current pregnancy and agreed to the surgery after doctors told them about their baby's heart condition.&nbsp;

UP doctor allegedly leaves towel inside patient's stomach, probe ordered

In a shocking case of medical negligence, a UP doctor allegedly left a towel inside a patient's belly after he operated upon her post labour pains.
The incident reportedly happened in Bans Kheri village of Amroha district.&nbsp;
The doctor, Matloob, allegedly left the towel in the belly of one Nazrana after conducting her operation at Saifee Nursing Home, which he used to run without permission in the Naugawana Sadat police station area in Amroha, ANI reported quoting Chief Medical Officer.&nbsp;
The report further said, the lady was readmitted to Matloob's nursing home, after she complaint of severe abdominal pain. Citing cold weather, the doctor kept the woman for 4-5 days in the hospital, with no improvement in the condition.

MBBS students in Haryana on Saturday called off their 54-day-long protest against the state government's bond policy.
The move came three days after the government notified its amended bond policy.
The policy was amended following a meeting of protesting students with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar last month.
Dr Ankit Gulia, President of Resident Doctors Association at PGIMS, Rohtak, said the protest was called off on Saturday as the amended bond policy will provide relief to MBBS students.
On other demands of medical students, Gulia said students will be given relaxation in attendance and their exams slated for December 26 will be postponed.
A case registered against MBBS students will also be withdrawn, he said.

The Haryana government had three days back notified its amended bond policy in which it reduced the bond policy amount and cut down the duration for compulsory government service from seven to five years.
According to the amendments, the bond amount for male MBBS students in government medical colleges will be Rs 25.77 lakh and 10 per cent less at Rs 23.19 lakh for female students. Earlier, the bond amount was Rs 36.41 lakh.
The new bond policy is applicable from 2020-21 onwards.
MBBS students at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak and some other medical colleges had been holding protests for the past almost two months against the bond policy.

Krishna Singh, a general practitioner, was accused of kissing, groping, giving inappropriate examinations and making sleazy comments, charges that he had denied during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The GP insisted the patients were wrong and that some of the examinations were what he had been taught during medical training in India.
According to news reports from Scotland, the charges spanned between February 1983 and May 2018 and the offences mainly occurred at medical practices in North Lanarkshire, but also at a hospital accident and emergency department, a police station as well as during visits to patients' homes.
“The Crown case is that Dr Singh was in a routine of offending against women,” prosecutor Angela Gray told the court.
“Sometimes subtle or camouflaged, other times obvious and flagrant. Sexual offending was part of his working life,” she said.
Singh was seen as a respected member of the community, even awarded the royal Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) honour for his contribution to medical services.
An investigation into his conduct was launched after one woman reported him in 2018.
The doctor went on to be convicted of 54 charges against the victims, the crimes mainly consisting of multiple sexual and indecent assault.
He was found not proven on nine other charges and not guilty on a further two.
The judge hearing the case has deferred sentencing until next month and allowed Singh to be released on bail on condition that he surrendered his passport.

While Bengaluru struggled to keep afloat after the first round of torrential rains hit India’s Silicon Valley on August 30, a city doctor is winning praise online for going out of the way to help his patient.  
Doctor Govind Nandkumar, a gastroenterology surgeon at Manipal Hospitals  was supposed to perform a crucial surgery when he got stuck in the city’s infamous traffic, this time caused due to heavy waterlogging and flooding. 
Realising the fact that the delay might deteriorate the condition of his patient who was prepped for the surgery, doctor Nandkumar left his car in the middle of the traffic and ran towards the hospital, that was around 3 kms away from the  Sarjapur-Marathalli stretch where he was stuck. 
Speaking to NDTV, doctor Nandkumar said "I left home well in time for the surgery. Looking at the huge traffic, I decided to leave the car with the driver and ran towards the hospital without thinking twice," 
Doctor Nandkumar’s team that was waiting for him in the operating room sprung into action as soon as he arrived at the hospital. 
Fortunately enough, with doctor Nandkumar’s unusual decision to sprint to the hospital, the procedure was conducted successfully. 
Dr Nandkumar works as Consultant - Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospitals and has successfully performed more than 1000 procedures.

Tantuwaya said that he knew the receipt of money was illegal, and that he owed a fiduciary duty to his patients to not take money in exchange for referring them to Pacific Hospital.
So far, 23 defendants have been convicted for participating in the kickback scheme.

In the video doing the rounds on social media, Milari Chhangte is allegedly seen hitting a dermatologist at a clinic on 17 August 2022. Chhangte allegedly hit the doctor after he asked her to take an appointment if she wanted to consult him, as per reports.
As the video went viral, the medical fraternity came out to support the doctor, and 800 doctors staged a protest on 20 August. In response, Mizoram CM issued an apology via his Instagram account.
Zoramthanga said, "We have nothing to justify or say in defence of our daughter's behaviour towards the doctor. We ask forgiveness from the doctor and the public." The CM also met the doctor to apologise for his daughter's behaviour. Zoramthanga also reportedly thanked the Indian Medical Association, or IMA, for not initiating "stringent" action against his daughter.
Earlier, Chhangte's brother had claimed that she "went out of control" due to mental stress.

Earlier, Chhangte's brother had claimed that she "went out of control" due to mental stress.

An operation theatre would be a scary place for most people. But what if the person doing the surgery is not a doctor? And the patient has been lured or cheated into coming for the procedure? And the objective is to steal the patient's internal organs?
This nightmare plays out time and again in different parts of India. This time it is the national capital. More than ten people have been arrested by Delhi police in a kidney racket case.
The gang allegedly transplanted over 20 kidneys, and the procedures were done at a clinic in Gohana, in Haryana's Sonipat. The gang was allegedly led by Kuldeep Ray Vishwakarma, an operation theatre technician. Some of the accused worked at prominent hospitals in the national capital region.

The gang adopted a modus operandi similar to many kidney rackets in the past. They targeted people in dire need of money, and in the age group of 20 to 30 years. The gang used motivational videos and also a Facebook page to lure targets.
Two accused named Shailesh and Sarvjeet allegedly enticed and convinced victims. A person named Latif allegedly helped in conducting the victims' medical tests. Vikas, another accused, helped with accommodation and travel of the victims to Gohana, where illegal transplants were done at Dr Sonu Rohilla's clinic, as per police.
Many such rackets have been busted by police in various parts of India. In 2002, a dangerous operation was uncovered in Punjab's Amritsar. In 2008, a similar racket was unearthed in Haryana's Gurgaon. Surgeries were done at a private house. In 2018, needly recipients were allegedly lured with fake documents at a Kolkata hospital. In May 2022, an alleged kidney racket was busted at Pune's Ruby Hall clinic.
There are multiple reasons why kidney rackets are so common. The biggest reason is demand. India sees around 2 lakh cases of end-stage kidney failure every year, with patients needing either transplant or dialysis. But only 5,000 to 9,000 transplants reportedly take place.
Another reason is that kidneys survive outside the body for 24 to 36 hours, compared to just a few hours for liver and lungs. At ₹5-10 lakhs, the cost of a kidney transplant is also much lower than other organs. Additionally, most urologists are trained to do kidney transplants, and patients do not face undue risks.

An operation theatre would be a scary place for most people. But what if the person doing the surgery is not a doctor? And the patient has been lured or cheated into coming for the procedure? And the objective is to steal the patient's internal organs?
This nightmare plays out time and again in different parts of India. This time it is the national capital. More than ten people have been arrested by Delhi police in a kidney racket case.
The gang allegedly transplanted over 20 kidneys, and the procedures were done at a clinic in Gohana, in Haryana's Sonipat. The gang was allegedly led by Kuldeep Ray Vishwakarma, an operation theatre technician. Some of the accused worked at prominent hospitals in the national capital region.

The gang adopted a modus operandi similar to many kidney rackets in the past. They targeted people in dire need of money, and in the age group of 20 to 30 years. The gang used motivational videos and also a Facebook page to lure targets.
Two accused named Shailesh and Sarvjeet allegedly enticed and convinced victims. A person named Latif allegedly helped in conducting the victims' medical tests. Vikas, another accused, helped with accommodation and travel of the victims to Gohana, where illegal transplants were done at Dr Sonu Rohilla's clinic, as per police.
Many such rackets have been busted by police in various parts of India. In 2002, a dangerous operation was uncovered in Punjab's Amritsar. In 2008, a similar racket was unearthed in Haryana's Gurgaon. Surgeries were done at a private house. In 2018, needly recipients were allegedly lured with fake documents at a Kolkata hospital. In May 2022, an alleged kidney racket was busted at Pune's Ruby Hall clinic.

Another reason is that kidneys survive outside the body for 24 to 36 hours, compared to just a few hours for liver and lungs. His aunt then fell sick, suffering from a panic attack. The video showed Air India's staff members sitting at their terminal while the woman lay on the ground, and her family rushed to get water.
Air India took note of the video, and sought details of the incident from Bhimani. Subsequent correspondence on Twitter appeared to suggest that the airline promised to refund the ticket amount.
Later, as the video gained traction and outrage against Air India grew, the airline issued a clarification. Air India claimed that a doctor and a CISF personnel had been called immediately to help the passenger, but she had started feeling better by then. The airline said that the woman declined medical and wheelchair assistance.
Regarding the denial to board, Air India said that it has to adhere to rules, and couldn't delay the flight as all the other passengers had boarded on time. Air India claimed its staff had repeatedly called the names of the three people in question before the gate closed.
India's aviation regulator DGCA said that it had sought a report from the airline.

4 people including 2 doctors were injured in a drunken brawl in south Delhi's Gautam Nagar on Wednesday night.
According to the police, a heated argument broke out between the shopkeeper of Bhagat Singh Verma Paranthe Walla and the doctors after which both sides allegedly assaulted each other. The police also said that the doctors were drunk.
The shopkeeper, his son also sustained minor injuries. The two doctors- one from Delhi&rsquo;s All Indian Medical Institute of Sciences and other from Safdrajung Hospital were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre on Thursday with several head injuries.
While the shopkeeper alleges that the drunken doctors assaulted and abused him following which he called his son, the medical professionals allege that they were teased and abused for &lsquo;spreading corona&rsquo; and were beaten up by several people at the shop.
The police has taken statements of both the parties and has said that legal action will be taken accordingly.

While announcing the protest IMA&nbsp;President Dr JA Jayalal said doctors will wear a black band, black mask or black shirt to register their protest and&nbsp;that no hospitals will closed.
Dr Jayalal&nbsp;added that there have been several incidents of doctors serving in Covid wards being beaten &amp; brutally assaulted across the country and it is responsibility of govt to ensure the safety of frontline workers.&nbsp;

In a video of the shocking assault, a group of about a dozen men can be seen thrashing the doctor. The men are seen kicking and punching the doctor who is pinned down to the ground. One of the men is also seen pounding the doctor's head with a metal can. Reports said that the men attacked the hospital after their relative's death and most of the workers ran away. The doctor, Senapati, locked himself in a room. But the men barged in and started beating him mercilessly.
The mob then dragged the doctor out and kept beating him outside the hospital.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the police to investigate the attack and arrest those responsible. He added that such barbaric attacks on our frontline workers won't be tolerated.
