Manage your weight
Excess fat promotes inflammation and insulin resistance, which significantly increases the risk of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people with prediabetes should lose at least 7% to 10% of their body weight to prevent disease progression.
Stay active
Performing physical activity on a regular basis may help prevent diabetes. Working your muscles more often and making them work harder improves their ability to use insulin and absorb glucose. Try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week.
Tune-up your diet
Dietary changes can have a huge impact on the risk of diabetes. Your diet should include smaller portions along with less fat and sugar. Eat a variety of foods from each food group, including plenty of whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables. Limit red and processed meat and opt for fish instead.
Quit smoking
Do you know smokers are roughly 50 percent more likely to develop diabetes than non-smokers? As part of the research, half of a group of diabetics&nbsp;were placed on a&nbsp;low-calorie, low-carbohydrate, higher-protein diet. They were also made to be in regular contact with&nbsp;their pharmacist&nbsp;who could monitor their medications.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The research team from&nbsp;the University of British Columbia and Teesside University said community pharmacists&nbsp;are generally more accessible than&nbsp;family doctors, especially in rural areas.&nbsp;They also have expertise in medication management and can serve a&nbsp;key&nbsp;role in overall diabetes care.&nbsp;&nbsp;
At the end of 12 weeks, more than a third of the patients consuming the special diet was&nbsp;able to go off all diabetes medication&nbsp;versus none in the control group.&nbsp;
In addition to this, the diet group also reported notable improvements in glucose control, average body weight, systolic blood pressure and overall health.&nbsp;The research proved that&nbsp;dietary interventions&nbsp;can&nbsp;reduce&nbsp;the need for glucose-lowering medications for many.

The research analysed the associations between maternal diabetes and the risk of high refractive error (RE). RE is one of the most common forms of visual impairment that includes both long and short-sightedness.
The long-term study looked at data from approximately 2.4 million people born in Denmark between 1977 and 2016. Of these individuals, over 56,000 were exposed to their mother's diabetes during pregnancy, including 0.9% with type 1 diabetes, 0.3% with type 2 diabetes and 1.1% with gestational diabetes.
As per the findings, children born to mothers with diabetes were at a 39% greater risk of high refractive error compared to children without diabetic mothers. Researchers also concluded that hypermetropia (long-sightedness) occurred more frequently in childhood and myopia (short-sightedness) was more frequent in adolescence and young adulthood.

Looking backwards, the team concluded that&nbsp;sub-optimal growth in the womb leads&nbsp;to higher&nbsp;levels of risk factors for diabetes from early childhood.&nbsp;The findings suggest a cycle of&nbsp;poor growth of the pancreas in the&nbsp;foetus&nbsp;leading&nbsp;to&nbsp;poorly functioning adult pancreas, making&nbsp;it harder for the person to cope with demands of increasing age.&nbsp;&nbsp;
They said that smaller birth size, maternal pregnancy hyperglycaemia, and higher glycemia from childhood could all signal&nbsp;future glucose intolerance.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In the end, the team&nbsp;recommends lowering the screening age for diabetes from 30 to 25 years and suggests focussing on maternal nutrition&nbsp;as a preventative measure.

Vaccination is usually given on the left shoulder but if a person has undergone left breast removal, the vaccination should be taken on the right shoulder. If both breasts have been removed, then the vaccine shot should be either taken on the thigh or the hips.

1. Make sure you eat properly and stay hydrated. You need the right amount of carbs to maintain healthy blood sugar levels throughout the day.
2. COVID-19 can reduce your appetite and cause you to eat less, which could affect your sugar levels. Check your blood sugar more often than usual.
3. Take your medication as directed because if you stop taking prescribed medications, you're setting yourself up for serious complications.
4. Try to stay active while you are at home, exercise and walks help to manage&nbsp;diabetes.
5. Take care of your immunity by consuming immunity-boosting foods such as chickpeas, carrots, walnuts, lentils and fatty&nbsp;seafood.&nbsp;
6. Pay attention to your mental health as social and physical isolation may increase anxiety and depression.
