The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has deregistered 54 planes leased by Go First. This comes days after a court allowed lessors to take back their aircraft from the bankrupt airline.&nbsp;
<h3>Go First planes de-registered</h3>
Foreign lessors who have leased planes to the airline had moved the court to take back the aircraft. The Delhi High Court on April 26, directed the aviation regulator to process the applications filed by the lessors for deregistration of 54 planes immediately. The High court further said that the process should be completed in not later than five working days.
As per PTI, a senior official at the regulator on Wednesday confirmed that all the 54 aircraft of the airline have been deregistered.&nbsp;
An A320 plane, having registration number VT-WJL, was deregistered on April 29. The request for deregistration under IDERA was received by the regulator way back on May 11, 2023. The lessor is based in Ireland, according to a deregistration notice.
Under the Cape Town Convention, a lessor can opt for the Irrevocable De-registration and Export Request Authorisation (IDERA). Generally, the option is exercised by lessors when there is a default by an airline with respect to a leased aircraft.
Go First that ceased operations about an year ago is now undergoing inslovency process. The airline stopped flying in May last year due to financial turbulence and engine woes.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has put the new pilot duty norms into abeyance, lifting the June 1 deadline. No new time frame has been put in place yet for implementation of the new norms.
The regulator on Tuesday said airlines can continue to comply with the old FDTL norms, issued in 2019, "till approval of their respective scheme in compliance with this CAR (civil aviation requirement)".
<h3>New Pilot Duty Norms</h3>
In January, DGCA increased pilot rest time in its new flight duty time limitation (FDTL) norms. As per the new FDTL norms, the rest time for pilots increased to 48 hours from 26 hours. The rules have also reduced nighttime flying, which is known to contribute to fatigue and impact alertness levels.
As per the 2019 regulations which is being followed now, a pilot could carry out six landings during nighttime flying. The new rules mandated only 2 such landings. The new rules also reduced the maximum flight duty period for flights encroaching nighttime to 8 hours from 10 hours

The DGCA had earlier rejected the request by airlines to postpone the new pilot duty norms, reiterating that the revised schedule will have to be implemented from June 1, 2024. In February the airlines comprising of Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, wrote to the DGCA wrote to the DGCA seeking postponement of the June 1 implementation deadline as it could have a significant impact on their businesses. The airlines also mentioned that they would be required to hire up to 25 per cent more pilots, leading to the cancellation of a considerable number of flights.

Aviation watchdog DGCA on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on Air India for violations of norms related to flight duty time limitations and fatigue management system of flight crew.
The decision came after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted a spot audit of Air India in January, during which evidence was collected and fleet-wise random reports were analysed.
"The analysis of reports and evidence revealed that Air India Limited operated flight(s) with both flight crew aged above 60 years flying together in a few instances.
"... the operator was also found deficient in providing adequate weekly rest, adequate rest before &amp; after ultra-long range flights and adequate rest on layover to the flight crew, which violates the extant provisions of the Civil Aviation Requirements pertaining to FDTL," the regulator said in a release.
Further, the DGCA said there were instances of exceeding duty periods, wrongly marked training records and overlapping duties.
On March 1, the regulator issued a show cause notice to Air India with respect to the violations.
"The operator submitted its response to the show cause notice, which was not found satisfactory. Pursuant to the non-satisfactory response submitted by the operator, a fine of Rs 80,00,000 has been imposed on the operator," the release said.&nbsp;

"Pursuant to the receipt of a voluntary safety report from an airline employee alleging safety violations of flights operated by Air India on certain long range terrain critical routes, DGCA conducted a comprehensive investigation into the alleged violations,&rdquo; the regulator said in a statement.

DGCA had issued a show-cause notice to the airline, since the investigation prima facie revealed non-compliance by the airline. The DGCA statement also mentioned that the notice was duly examined with respect to the laid down stipulations.

The civil aviation body has mandated that air carriers provide appropriate facilities to passengers due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights, and delays.
The airlines were also asked to publish real-time information about fog-related disruptions on their websites and alert passengers through SMS or WhatsApp, and email.
"In view of the prevalent fog season and adverse weather conditions, airlines may cancel, sufficiently in advance, such flights that are anticipated to be delayed or consequentially delayed on account of such conditions beyond a period of 3 hours with a view to obviate congestion at the airport and mitigate passenger inconvenience," DGCA said.
The Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) was issued to ensure appropriate protection for air travellers in case of flight disruptions and, in particular, denied boardings, flight cancellations and delays without due notice to the passengers booked on the flight(s).
"It is, accordingly, obligatory on the part of all airlines to mandatorily adhere to the provisions of the above CAR.
"However, in case of Force Majeure events i.e. extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the airline, the provisions of the above CAR are not applicable," the release said. PTI&nbsp;
The development comes in the wake of a passenger attacking an IndiGo pilot over 13-hour delay.
Earlier in the day, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said all stakeholders are working round-the-clock to minimise fog-related disruptions in flight operations and that DGCA will come out with SOPs to ensure "better communication and facilitation of passengers to minimise discomfort in view of flight cancellations and delays due to adverse weather".

The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has de-registered 3 SpiceJet planes, said the cash-strapped airline. The airline further added that, lessors had listed 5 planes for de-registering. One of the lessors had also requested for suspension of request for de-registration of two planes.
The airline guranteed that this won't affect the operations as two of the three de-registered planes were non-operational. Lessors including Wilmington Trust SP Services, Sabarmati Aviation Leasing, and Falgu Aviation Leasing had requested for deregistering one aircraft each.&nbsp;
This after, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), sent a notice to SpiceJet on a lessor's petition seeking initiation of insolvency proceedings against the airline. Aircastle, one of the lessors of SpiceJet told the tribunal that the airline's settlement offer is not good enough and the talks over missed payments were inconclusive.
On a total SpiceJet has 67 aircraft in its fleet, out of which 30 aircrafts were not in service as on 3rd May. The airline has also said that it has no idea of filing for insolvency.&nbsp;

An Air India pilot on a Dubai-Delhi flight allowed a woman friend to enter the cockpit, according to a complaint filed by a cabin crew member of the same flight who has alleged that safety norms were violated.
Based on a complaint by an air hostess, India's aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation against the pilot, according to DGCA sources.
"We have taken serious note of the reported incident and investigations are underway in Air India. We have also reported the matter to the DGCA and are cooperating with their investigations. We have zero tolerance in aspects related to the safety and well-being of our passengers and will take requisite action, " Air India said in a statement
The complaint, accessed by ANI, alleged that the pilot of the Air India flight number AI915 wanted the crew to create a "welcoming, warm and comfortable", "living room" feel in the cockpit for his woman friend. "The captain told me to go fetch some pillows from the bunk before Ms. XXX. reaches the cockpit to make her feel comfortable. The pilot said the cockpit should appear welcoming, warm and comfortable, as though he was preparing his living room for a lady friend. Also, asked me to take her drinks and snacks order and serve her," the air hostess mentioned in the complaint copy accessed by ANI.

The domestic airline traffic in March 2023 soared 21.4% year-on-year and is at nearly 1.3 crore as per data from DGCA. The number of passengers carried by the airlines during January-March 2023 increased by 51.70% to 375.04 lakh compared to 247.23 lakhs during the same period last year. The monthly growth rate is at 21.41%.
As per DGCA, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled airlines for March is at 0.28%. A total of 347 passenger-related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines during March 2023. Most of the problems registered was related to baggage and flight problems. The DGCA also revealed that 343 out of the 347 complaints were addressed.&nbsp;
Airlines Indigo and Vistara has seen an improvement in their market share. While Indigo's share is at 56.8%, Vistara is at 8.9%. However, market shares of &nbsp;Go First and Air India declined in March. As per CNBC-News18, Go First saw a drop of 1.1% to 6.9% against 8% in February, while Air India fell 0.1% to 8.8% from 8.9% in February.

A female cancer patient, who recently underwent a surgery, was allegedly offloaded from a New York-bound flight of American Airlines at Delhi airport after she sought assistance from a flight attendant to keep her hand-bag in overhead cabin.
The incident was reported on January 30, and it came to light after the United Statesbased traveller, identified as Meenakshi Sengupta, lodged a complaint against the flight attendant accusing them of refusing to help her put the handbag weighing more than 5 pounds in the overhead cabin as she was unable to do so because of weak limbs.
In her complaint to the Delhi Police and the Civil Air, Meenakshi Sengupta said that she had also requested for wheelchair assistance to her seat, "I was also wearing a brace which was visible to everyone and they would know that I have some discomfort...because I CANNOT carry any weight in my hands at all and I'm weak from the surgery and don't need to strain myself by walking a lot." She said, "The ground staff was very supportive and helped me get into the aircraft and put my handbag on the side of the seat. Once inside the flight, I had a conversation with the air hostess and I explained my health condition to them...None of them mentioned about putting my handbag away. After the flight was about to take off, cabin lights were dimmed. At that time an air hostess came to put my hand bag in the overhead compartment. I requested her to help me put it but she refused to do so and told me it's not her job to do.

The incident also went viral on social media, and people urging the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to take note of the matter.
Meanwhile, India's regulator- the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken cognisance of the case and asked American Airlines to submit its report.
The airline, in its official statement, said that its Customer Relations team has reached out to Sengupta to refund the unused portion of her ticket.

Airlines will reimburse 75 per cent of the ticket costs to passengers whose domestic flight tickets have been downgraded, with aviation regulator DGCA putting in place new norms.
For downgrade of international tickets, the reimbursement amount will vary from 30 per cent to 75 per cent of the ticket costs, including taxes, depending on the distance covered by the particular flight.
The new norms will be effective from February 15, a senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Wednesday.
The regulator decided to amend the norms against the backdrop of complaints from air travellers about their tickets booked for a particular class being downgraded by airlines.
In December last year, DGCA had proposed that airlines should have to refund the full value of such tickets, including taxes, and also that affected passenger will be flown free of cost in the next available class.
However, those proposals have been modified now in line with international practices, the official said.
The watchdog has amended its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) pertaining to facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights.

"The amendment will allow the passenger, who is downgraded involuntarily and is carried in a class lower than that for which the ticket is purchased, to be reimbursed by the airline," DGCA said in a statement on Wednesday.
For the downgrade of a domestic flight ticket, the passenger concerned will get 75 per cent of the cost of ticket, including taxes, from the airline.
In the case of downgrade of an international ticket, a passenger will receive 30 per cent of the cost of ticket, including taxes, for flights flying 1,500 kilometres or less. Inclusive of taxes, the amount will be 50 per cent if the flight covers a distance between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometres, as per the statement.
The reimbursement amount will be 75 per cent of the cost of ticket, including taxes, for flights covering more than 3,500 kilometres.
The changes have been done to strengthen the rights of air travellers affected by downgrading of their tickets, the regulator said.

In a statement, the airline said it accepts that, notwithstanding the mitigating circumstances, based on the letter of the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) it did not correctly classify the incident and therefore did not report it as required.

Nearly two months after the urination incident on its New York-New Delhi flight, Air India on Tuesday said it has closed the internal probe into the case and will assist the flight's pilot-in-command with an appeal against the suspension of his license by DGCA as the airline deems the action as "excessive".

In a statement, the airline said it accepts that, notwithstanding the mitigating circumstances, based on the letter of the CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) it did not correctly classify the incident and therefore did not report it as required.
"The crew and ground staff have been issued warning letters to henceforth adhere strictly to CAR definition of 'unruly' when reporting incidents onboard so that later investigation can assess the facts. The cabin crew and ground staff have been counselled and have since returned to duty," it said.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India for not reporting two incidents of unruly passenger behaviour onboard a Paris-New Delhi flight in December last year.
This is the second time in less than a week that the watchdog has taken enforcement action against the airline in connection with unruly passenger behaviour.
In a statement on Tuesday, DGCA said the incidents of passenger misbehaviour occurred on the AI-142 flight from Paris to New Delhi on December 6, 2022.
One drunk passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory and not adhering to the crew instructions, and another passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of a fellow female passenger when she went to the lavatory, it said.
"Enforcement action in the form of a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 has been imposed on Air India for not reporting the incident to DGCA and delaying in referring the matter to its Internal Committee, which is a violation of applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements," the statement said.

The penalty on Air India came a day after the airline put a flight ban on accused Shankar Mishra for 4 months.

Additionally, DGCA has suspended for 3 months the licence of the pilot-in-command of the New York-to-Delhi flight on which the alleged incident took place. A ₹3 lakh fine has also been imposed on Air India's director, in-flight services.
The penalty on Air India came a day after the airline put a flight ban on accused Shankar Mishra for 4 months.
The incident took place in November 2022, and the complainant has accused the flight crew of trying to hush-up the matter.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday said it has issued a show cause notice to Air India regarding two incidents of passenger misbehaviour onboard a flight from Paris to New Delhi last month.
In one incident, a drunk passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory and was not listening to the crew. In the second incident, another passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of a fellow female passenger when she went to lavatory, according to DGCA.
Both incidents happened on the Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, 2022.
"Air India didn't report the incident until DGCA sought the incident report from them on 05.01.2023. After perusal of the reply submitted by Air India through email dated 06.01.2023, prima facie it emerges that provisions related to handling of an unruly passenger... have not been complied with. It has been noted that the response of the airline has been lackadaisical and delayed," the regulator said in a statement.

"However, to follow the principles of natural justice, they have been given two weeks time to submit their reply to DGCA and based on that further action will be taken," the statement said.

DGCA on IndiGo plane fire: follow up action after detailed probe

In a statement, IndiGo said the aircraft experienced a technical issue while on take off roll and safely returned to the bay.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Saturday said it will take suitable follow-up action after conducting a detailed probe into an incident of an IndiGo plane's engine catching fire at the Delhi airport.
A Bengaluru-bound A320 ceo aircraft, carrying 184 people, aborted takeoff at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here due to fire in one of its engines Friday night. The plane returned to the bay and passengers were deboarded safely.
"The priority is to carry out a detailed investigation of the incident and ascertain the reasons for the fire in the engine. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished swiftly and the aircraft is now grounded," DGCA chief Arun Kumar told PTI.
He said the engine that caught fire was an IAEV2500. It is manufactured by IAE International Aero Engines AG.
"The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will do a detailed study to check whether there have been any such incidents pertaining to these engines before. After the investigation, suitable follow-up action will be taken," he said.

A DGCA source said the aircraft VT-IFM operating flight 6E-2131 from Delhi to Bengaluru was involved in reject takeoff following engine 2 fail warning. A loud bang was heard and fire extinguisher bottle was discharged, the source added.
Soon after the incident that took place around 10 pm on Friday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said officials concerned of the DGCA have been directed to "look into this and furnish a report at the earliest".
In a statement issued early Saturday morning, IndiGo said the aircraft experienced a technical issue while on take off roll, immediately after which the pilot aborted the take off and the aircraft safely returned to the bay.
All passengers and crew are safe and an alternate aircraft was arranged to operate the flight, which took off at 12.16 am on Saturday, it added.
Videos on social media showed one of the plane's engines on fire and sparks flying at the time of taxiing at the airport.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Wednesday asked all Indian carriers to strictly enforce COVID-19 protocol, including mask mandate for passengers, in aircraft amid a rise in infections across the country.
In a statement, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/spicejet-penalised-dgca-orders-50-flights-to-be-grounded-for-8-weeks-1658931665335">DGCA</a>) said it will be conducting "random checks" in aircraft across the country to see if the COVID-19 protocol is being enforced or not.
Airlines have to ensure that passengers are wearing face masks properly throughout the journey and there is proper sensitisation of passengers through various platforms, it mentioned.
"In case a passenger does not comply with the directions, strict action will be taken by airlines against the passenger," it added.
In view of the rise in the number of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/world-news/hong-kong-lifts-flight-ban-citing-little-effect-on-covid-19-1657188720510">COVID-19</a> cases, the airlines have been advised again on August 16 to strictly comply with COVID-19 protocol inside the aircraft, it mentioned.
