The research was conducted on 18,125 adults aged between 50 to 65 who did not have dementia when the study had begun.
During research participants were asked if they regularly use the Internet for mail, searching for information, travel reservations and shopping.
Later, it was concluded that people who used the internet for about 2 hours or less a day had the lowest risk of dementia compared to those who didn't use it at all.&nbsp; But researchers also warned that too much of anything is never a good idea.&nbsp;

For the research, 23 &nbsp;per cent of the 5,022 participants aged 65 or older were socially isolated and showed no signs of dementia and after nine- years of proper annual interviews it was concluded that 21 per cent of the total sample of participants had developed dementia.&nbsp;
However, researchers have also found out that habits like smoking, excessive drinking, lack of exercise and poor sleep could also lead to Alzheimer's disease and dementia.&nbsp;

The study was carried out over 12 years with the participation of 842 people aged over 65. Researchers analysed the relationship between the metabolism of dietary components, intestinal microbiota, endogenous metabolism and cognitive impairment.
As per the findings, a higher intake of fruits, vegetables and plant-based foods provides polyphenols and other bioactive compounds that could help reduce the risk of cognitive decline&nbsp;due to ageing. Lifestyle and diet changes are good strategies to prevent cognitive decline, researchers concluded.

According to a study presented at the &nbsp;European Academy of Neurology (EAN), Covid-19 patients are at an increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer&rsquo;s, Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and ischaemic stroke.
For the study, researchers analysed the health records of 9,19,731 individuals from February 2020 to November 2021. They used statistical techniques to calculate relative risk and results were stratified for hospitalisation status, age, sex and comorbidities.
As per the findings, 43,375 people who tested positive had 3.5 times increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease, 2.6 times higher risk of Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and 2.7 times with ischaemic stroke.&nbsp;

An experimental Alzheimer's drug modestly slowed the brain disease's inevitable worsening, researchers reported Tuesday -- and the next question is how much difference that might make in people's lives.
Japanese drugmaker Eisai and its U.S. partner Biogen had announced earlier this fall that the drug lecanemab appeared to work, a badly needed success after repeated disappointments in the quest for better Alzheimer's treatments.
Now researchers are getting their first peek at the full results of the study of nearly 1,800 people in the earliest stages of the mind-robbing disease. The data was presented at an Alzheimer's meeting in San Francisco and published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Every two weeks for 18 months, study participants received intravenous lecanemab or a dummy infusion. Researchers tracked them using an 18-point scale that measures cognitive and functional ability.
Those given lecanemab declined more slowly -- a difference of not quite half a point on that scale, concluded the research team led by Dr. Christopher van Dyck at Yale University.
That's a hard-to-understand change but measured a different way, lecanemab delayed patients' worsening by about five months over the course of the study, Eisai's Dr. Michael Irizarry tells The Associated Press.
"In this clinical trial for the lecanemab subject to go from point A to point B in 18 months, individuals on placebo will go from that same point A to point B in 12.7 months," Eisai's Ivan Cheung says.
Also, lecanemab recipients were 31% less likely to advance to the next stage of the disease during the study.
But doctors are divided over how much difference those changes may make for patients and families.
The trial is important because it shows a drug that attacks a sticky protein called amyloid -- considered a chief culprit behind Alzheimer's -- can delay disease progression, said Maria Carrillo, chief science officer for the Alzheimer's Association.
"We all understand that this is not a cure, and we're all trying to really grasp what it means to slow Alzheimer's," says Carrillo.
Amyloid-targeting drugs can cause side effects that include swelling and bleeding in the brain, and lecanemab did as well in about 13% of recipients. Eisai said most were mild or asymptomatic.
Also, two deaths have been publicly reported among lecanemab users who also were taking blood-thinning medications for other health problems. Eisai said Tuesday the deaths can't be attributed to the Alzheimer's drug.
The Food and Drug Administration is considering accelerated approval of lecanemab, with a decision expected in early January. If approved, it would be the second anti-amyloid drug on the market.

The study included 1857 individuals, without dementia, aged between 50 and 69 years. Participants were evaluated for a period of 13 years. The evaluation included tests of memory, language, executive function and spatial skills.
As per the findings, certain cardiovascular conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke have stronger associations with cognitive decline in women compared to men.

For the study, the team examined the resting heart rate of 2,147 individuals aged 60 years or older for a period of 12 years. They set out to determine whether resting heartbeat could be linked to dementia and cognitive decline, independent of other risk factors such as cardiovascular disease.
As per the findings, individuals with a resting heart rate of 80 beats per minute or higher on average had a 55 percent higher risk of dementia than those with a heart rate of 60-69 beats per minute.

A new study has found that people taking certain drugs to lower blood sugar for type 2 diabetes had less amyloid in the brain, a biomarker of Alzheimer's disease.&nbsp;

According to a study published in the journal American Academy of Neurology, certain diabetes drugs may help reduce Alzheimer's risk in people with or without diabetes. Researchers also found that people taking diabetic drugs showed a slower cognitive decline compared to those not taking the drugs.
The study involved 282 participants with an average age of 76 who were followed for up to six years. All had been diagnosed with either pre-clinical or early Alzheimer's disease. Of the group, 70 people had <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/tasty-diabetic-friendly-breakfast-ideas-to-start-your-day-right-1624420149474" target="_blank">diabetes</a> and were being treated with the drug named Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, 71 had diabetes but were not being treated with drugs and 141 did not have diabetes.

As per the findings, patients who took the drug DDP-4 inhibitors, which are prescribed to those with type 2 diabetes, had less amyloid in the brain compared to those not taking the drugs and people without diabetes. People on DDP-4 inhibitors also showed smaller amounts of the plaques that build up in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. However, experts cautioned that the findings do not prove the drugs can prevent or delay Alzheimer's disease.
