The study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society stated that older adults who stay socially isolated have a higher chance of developing dementia. 

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society stated that older adults who stay socially isolated have a higher chances of developing dementia.

For the research, 23 per cent of the 5,022 participants aged 65 or older were socially isolated and showed no signs of dementia and after nine- years of proper annual interviews it was concluded that 21 per cent of the total sample of participants had developed dementia.

However, researchers have also found out that habits like smoking, excessive drinking, lack of exercise and poor sleep could also lead to Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
