The Union government has accorded 'Z' category VIP security cover to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following an attack on her, official sources said on Thursday.
Gupta, her official residence and the Camp Office on Raj Niwas Marg in the Civil Lines area of the national capital will also be secured by the VIP Security Group (VSG) of the paramilitary force that also provides protection to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Gandhi family of the Congress party.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) took charge of the Delhi chief minister's security on Thursday following the direction of the Union home ministry.
She has been granted 'Z' category central security cover following a threat perception report prepared by central intelligence agencies, sources said.
Gupta, 51, was earlier being provided a top-level security cover by Delhi Police.
She was attacked during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her camp office on Wednesday morning, with her office terming the assault a part of a "well-planned conspiracy to kill her".
A team of 22-25 armed CRPF commandos will be on the CM's protection duty round-the-clock, they said.
The CRPF will put in place new measures for her security. These include regulating access to her residence, deployment of security gadgets and providing her proximate protection through male and female personal security officers (PSOs) when she moves in public, as per sources.
The CRPF also provides security to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the governors of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Karnataka apart from a number of other high-profile persons.
The VIP security cover under the central protection list begins from the highest Z-plus (ASL) to Z-plus, Z, Y, Y-plus and X.
The accused who attacked Gupta was overpowered and arrested on the spot. He has been booked on the charge of attempt to murder and is currently in five-day custody of the Delhi Police which is investigating the case.&nbsp;

Paramilitary forces have been deployed outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta following an attack on her during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her Civil Lines Camp Office. Officials said her security cover will now undergo major changes.
According to police, the step has been taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated and that security protocols are strictly enforced during public interactions with the chief minister.
"Complainants will not be allowed to directly approach the chief minister during 'Jan Sunwai' sessions. Every complaint will first undergo verification before being placed before Gupta. A designated perimeter will also be created to ensure that visitors cannot come close to her," a police source said.
The accused, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41) from Gujarat, allegedly pulled Gupta&rsquo;s hair and attacked her during the programme. He was overpowered on the spot, arrested, and later booked under charges including attempt to murder.
Officials confirmed that the revised security protocol will be enforced immediately and will remain in place for all future public hearings at the Chief Minister&rsquo;s Office.
Minister Calls Attack a "Planned Conspiracy"
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra said on Thursday that Gupta sustained serious physical injuries and was in a state of "shock" after the assault. Despite this, she has been working from her residence.
He claimed the attack was part of a "well-planned conspiracy" and that the accused is a "professional criminal" with a history of serious offences.
Mishra, who met the chief minister on Thursday morning, said: "She has been actively working, but she requires rest. Her physical injuries are serious, and she is in a state of shock."
The minister further alleged that the accused has nine criminal cases registered against him, including attempt to murder and smuggling. "The attack was carried out in a planned manner. The accused had conducted a recce of her residence and two videos recovered from his phone prove this," Mishra added.
Court Sends Accused to Police Custody
Court sources said Khimjibhai was produced before a magistrate in southwest Delhi&rsquo;s Dwarka late Wednesday night and has been sent to five days of police custody. He was not presented at the Tis Hazari court premises, they added.
Police have registered a case against him under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with charges of assaulting and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty.
Officials said Gupta, who was attacked around 8:15 am on Wednesday, underwent a medico-legal case (MLC) examination after being attended by doctors.
Sources revealed that the accused had arrived in Delhi two days before the incident and was staying in Civil Lines, north Delhi.

Sources in Delhi Police said the accused has been identified as Rajesh Bhaiji, a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat.
"A person attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during 'Jan Sunwai' today. Delhi Police has detained the accused and is questioning him," The Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.
Sources in Delhi BJP said that Gupta was "attacked" by a person aged around 35. He first gave the chief minister some papers during the public hearing and then allegedly attacked her, they said.
Talking to reporters after meeting the CM, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that CM Gupta is "shaken", but she is doing fine.
"During the 'Jan Sunwai' this morning, the CM was interacting with the public as usual when a man approached her, handed over some papers and suddenly caught her hand, attempting to pull her towards him.
"In the scuffle that followed, people overpowered him... His identity and other details are being investigated by the police," he added.
The Delhi BJP chief denied reports that the CM was slapped or a stone was pelted at her. Such incidents in politics are unacceptable, he said, adding that 'Jan Sunwai' will continue.
She is taking a rest right now and has made it clear that she will not cancel her scheduled programmes, he added.
The security at the camp office has been beefed up and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been informed about the incident, officials said.
An eyewitness, who was present at 'Jan Sunwai', said, "We all were sitting. A person whose turn came sat with the CM... he was speaking with the CM and suddenly he attacked her. We heard a loud sound. And immediately the police detained the person." Shailender Kumar, a man who had come with a complaint regarding sewer issues in his locality, said, "We heard that someone has slapped the chief minister. This is not right." Former Delhi chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Atishi also condemned the incident and hoped the chief minister was safe and the police will take strong action against the guilty.
Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh visited the camp office where the incident happened.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa condemned the attack on the chief minister. "She worries about Delhi. This is distressing for her detractors. I condemn the attack on her in the strongest words," Sirsa said.

Asked if they had sought permission to visit the residence, Singh and Bharadwaj told reporters, "Why should we need permission to enter the chief minister's residence?"
They were seen speaking to officials at the bungalow, requesting permission to be allowed inside.
"Who has instructed you to stop us? I am a minister and I am here for an inspection. How can you stop me and on whose orders? Have you received directions from the lieutenant governor? He is the only authority above my position," Bharadwaj was heard telling an official.
Addressing a press briefing earlier, Bharadwaj had said, "As promised, we will visit the chief minister's official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, at 11 am and try to find the golden commode, swimming pool, and mini bar that the BJP claims are present there"
"It should be noted that both these properties are government residences. They were built with taxpayers' money and came up during the Covid pandemic. If there are allegations of misappropriation of funds, both should be investigated," he added.
Singh and Bharadwaj also had said that they would take reporters to the prime minister's residence, which AAP has dubbed "Raj Mahal" and claimed was built at a cost of 2,700 crore.
The "Raj Mahal" jibe is part of AAP's counter allegation that the prime minister leads a luxurious lifestyle.
The 6, Flagstaff Road, bungalow has sparked controversy over alleged irregularities in its renovation and costly fittings and household goods present in it.
The BJP has focussed a big part of its assembly election campaign around these allegations, dubbing the bungalow "Sheesh Mahal".
The saffron party's Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva has claimed that valuable items, including a "golden commode", were missing after the bungalow was vacated by Kejriwal.
On Tuesday, AAP challenged the BJP to open the prime minister's residence for a media visit to reveal the reality while also offering to take reporters on a tour of the chief minister's bungalow.

A Delhi court on Thursday issued summons to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a fresh complaint by the ED for allegedly evading its summonses in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra directed Kejriwal to appear before the court on March 16.
The Enforcement Directorate filed the complaint before the court on Wednesday, seeking prosecution of Kejriwal for skipping multiple summonses issued to him in the case.
The latest complaint pertains to the Aam Aadmi Party national convenor not honouring summonses number 4 to 8 sent by the federal probe agency under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED said.
The ED had earlier moved a local court seeking Kejriwal's prosecution for not attending the first three summonses issued to him in the money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

Kejriwal claimed a "serious constitutional crisis" has arisen in Delhi in which the officers have given in writing in a way that they would not work.

According to Kejriwal, the proposed 'one time settlement scheme' for redressing inflated water bills was being stalled by officers, under alleged threats from the BJP.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said a "serious constitutional crisis" has arisen in the national capital as officers are saying they will not work because of alleged "threats and pressure" from the BJP.
Alleging that proposed 'one time settlement' scheme for redressing inflated water bills was stalled by officers, Kejriwal, replying to a calling attention motion in Delhi Assembly, urged Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to direct the officers to implement the scheme or take action against them if they refused it.
No immediate reaction was available from the officers concerned over charges of obstructing the scheme.
Kejriwal also warned that a massive agitation will be launched if the scheme was not soon implemented in the city.
The Delhi government will ensure implementation of the &lsquo;one-time settlement scheme' of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) at all costs, he said, alleging that earlier also the BJP-controlled bureaucracy had obstructed Mohalla Clinics, CCTVs, medicines for hospitals, 'Farishtey' scheme, and DTC pensions.
Kejriwal, who is also the AAP convener, said in any other state, officers creating hurdle before any scheme would be suspended immediately.
&ldquo;Although Delhi is half a state, we feel it's not even 5 per cent a state. If Delhi were a full state, no officer would have dared to ignore orders from the chief minister or ministers. They would have been immediately suspended," he said.
Kejriwal claimed a "serious constitutional crisis" has arisen in Delhi in which the officers have given in writing in a way that they would not work.
&ldquo;If they do not work, then how will the government run, can the government run even for two days? Does this suit the Central government, does it suit the BJP? he asked.
"The BJP feels happy if the people of Delhi are sad or ill. BJP people want to destroy Delhi,&rdquo; he charged.
Kejriwal asked Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri to leave aside politics and get the scheme passed through the help of the LG.
"You will get all the credit. I will shout from the top of the Red Fort that BJP people have done this, vote for BJP people. You are doing it for votes. (I know) there is no other reason, take the votes. We don't want votes," said the chief minister.
Earlier, Bidhuri alleged that first inflated bills were sent by the government and then a scheme of waiver was announced by it.
Bidhuri also questioned seriousness of the government to implement the 'one time settlement' scheme.
"While a calling attention motion has been presented in the assembly on the issue, concerned minister and DJB chairperson Atishi is not present in the House. The truth is that the government itself has no intention of settling the bills," Bidhuri charged while questioning how in the first place inflated bills were sent to the consumers.
Kejriwal said there were about 27 lakh consumers of DJB, out of which over 10 lakh (40 per cent consumers) are not paying their water bills.
&ldquo;Bribery is rampant to rectify bills. The biggest reason for pending bills is that during COVID-19, meter readers did not take readings of water meters for many months...many bills were not generated, and if bills were generated, they were based on average estimates. Fake readings were also entered," he said.
He hit out at the BJP accusing its leaders for the situation and added, "That is why they are in such a condition that sometimes they get three seats (in Assembly) and sometimes eight." Kejriwal said that the 'one time settlement' scheme was passed by DJB in June 2023, but the officials have "refused" to implement it.
&ldquo;The officers said we are being threatened that if you pass this scheme for the people of Delhi, then we will be suspended, fired from the job. We will be sent to jail, and ED and CBI will be after us. Sir, if you ask us, we will resign from the job, but we cannot pass this scheme,&rdquo; Kejriwal claimed.
The Delhi Assembly passed a resolution with voice vote presented by AAP MLA Rajendra Pal Gautam on the calling attention motion on the issue.
"The House believes that the opposition party BJP, which exercises direct control over the officers.... for narrow, short-term and illegitimate political gains, is threatening the officers to prevent the popular government of Delhi from implementing such a hugely necessary and pro-public scheme," read the resolution.

It said that the DJB has approved the scheme that would recast water bills based on an average minimum of 2 &lsquo;OK&rsquo; water meter readings. This scheme would bring relief to the people of Delhi and unlock revenue for the Board, it added.

The LG has reportedly found "substantive indications" of "financial quid pro quo" at the "top political level", wherein the excise minister "took and got executed major decisions in violation of statutory provisions".

His remarks came after Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Delhi Excise Policy, 2021-22 over alleged violations of rules and procedural lapses.&nbsp;
Sisodia heads the excise department of the Delhi government.&nbsp;
At an online press briefing, Kejriwal also said he has known Sisodia for 22 years and he is a "hardcore honest" man.&nbsp;
"I came to know that a case has been sent to the CBI against Manish Sisodia and the agency is going to arrest him in a few days. It is a completely fake case. There is not even an iota of truth in this case," the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said.&nbsp;
Kejriwal also said AAP leaders are not afraid of going to jail as they have done no wrong.&nbsp;
At a press briefing, AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the CBI probe was recommended by the LG at the behest of the BJP-led Centre to implicate Sisodia in a fake case and keep the Kejriwal-led party at bay in the upcoming Assembly polls.&nbsp;
He also alleged that the Centre has been making efforts to "somehow" implicate all the ministers in the Delhi government in fake cases as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared of the growing popularity of the AAP and Kejriwal.&nbsp;
"The Centre will try to implicate more of our ministers. It has asked officials to find out anything, true or false, and launch a probe so that the AAP can be kept confined to Delhi and Punjab," Bhardwaj said replying to a question.&nbsp;
He, however, asserted that nothing will come of it and people will eventually understand everything and wonder why Modi is after AAP leaders.&nbsp;
Referring to the arrest of Sateyndar Jain by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering case, Bhardwaj alleged that the Centre has been making efforts to "somehow" implicate the ministers in the Delhi government in fake cases since the AAP's stupendous victory in the Punjab Assembly polls earlier this year.&nbsp;
The CBI inquiry was recommended on the basis of a report filed by the Delhi chief secretary earlier this month, showing prima facie violations of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, the Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR), 1993, the Delhi Excise Act, 2009 and the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, officials said.&nbsp;

As hundred of doctors have lost their lives while serving in hospitals amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking that the country&rsquo;s highest civilian award,&nbsp;Bharat Ratna should be given this year to all doctors, nurses and paramedics.&nbsp;
In the letter, Kejriwal said many doctors and nurses sacrificed their lives fighting Corona. If we honour them with Bharat Ratna, then it will be a true tribute to them.&nbsp;
Lakhs of doctors and nurses served people selflessly without worrying about their lives and families. There can be no other better way (than honouring them with Bharat Ratna) to thank and honour them, the Delhi CM wrote in the letter in Hindi.
