Dalit PhD scholar Ramadas KS, who was suspended from Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), has moved the Bombay High Court to seek relief.&nbsp;
According to the Indian Express, the student sought the order to be revoked on grounds that it is the fundamental right of every citizen including students to freedom of thought and expression.&nbsp;
TISS had suspended Ramadas for allegedly indulging in activities which were "not in the interest of the nation".
In a notice sent to Ramadas dated March 7, TISS referred to his role in screening the documentary 'Ram Ke Naam' on January 26 as a "mark of dishonour and protest" against the Ram Mandir idol consecration in Ayodhya.
It said that while participating in the protest in Delhi under the banner PSF-TISS, the institute's name was "misused", which wrongfully created an impression that the PSF had some association with the TISS and its views were endorsed by the institute.
The student, who is pursuing his doctorate in Development Studies, has also been barred from entering the TISS campuses in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati.

Six people, including a woman, were arrested on Thursday for allegedly beating a 21-year-old Dalit man to death after keeping him confined in a house here, police said.
Ankit was beaten to death on January 8 at Jasola village over his affair with the woman, whose husband is also an accused, Circle Officer Ravishankar said and added that the case was registered at the Khatoli police station.
During interrogation, the woman confessed that she had an illicit relationship with Ankit and her husband had opposed it.
The FIR in the case was registered on a complaint from the victim's family under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 302 (murder), and provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police said according to the complaint, the accused had kept Ankit confined in a house.

The woman sustained head injuries in the incident and was hospitalised, said police.
In her complaint, the woman said that the accused stripped and assaulted her with a stick when she was going to fetch water from the pump.
She said that she somehow escaped from the spot and reached the police station.
&ldquo;The cause of the incident was for an interest of ₹1500. Woman came to the police station on Saturday night and gave a written complaint. Her allegations in the complaint are being verified by the police. The raids are on to arrest the accused involved in the incident," said police.&nbsp;

A Dalit man was allegedly beaten up and urinated upon by a group of people in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. The victim, identified as Ramswaroop Ahirwar, told the police he found himself in a hospital when he regained consciousness.
An FIR has been filed against four persons, including Seru Meena, Tushar Meena, Lekhraj Meena and Abhisek Meena. They have been accused of kidnapping the victim and beating him until he lost consciousness.
According to Ahirwar, who works as a kotwal, the patwari (revenue official) of the area had asked him to conduct an inspection after it was reported that some people were encroaching on government land.
He said that on reaching the spot in Choupdakala village, he found some people putting up fencing on government land.
&ldquo;I objected to their fencing work. In the meantime, Seur Meena, who is the husband of the village sarpanch, also came and started abusing me. Tushar Meena, Lekhraj Meena and Abhisek Meena also reached there,&rdquo; the FIR copy read as per IANS.
&ldquo;They tied my hands and put me in Suru Meena&rsquo;s Scorpio and took me near a drain. Suru was driving his Scorpio, while Lekhraj, Abhisek and Tushar were beating me on the way and hurling abusive language. They all kept beating me and when I started losing consciousness, Seru Meena urinated on me,&rdquo; the victim said in his complaint.
After the assault, the victim was taken to a hospital in Hamidia hospital.
An investigation has been launched into the matter, said police.

A case has been registered against the accused, Ramkripal Patel, who belongs to an OBC community, under relevant provisions, in connection with the incident, a police official told PTI.
The victim, Dashrath Ahirwar, approached the police on Saturday, he said.
Ahirwar claimed the incident occurred on Friday when he was engaged in the construction of a drain for the panchayat in Bikaura village, about 35 km from the Chhatarpur district headquarters.
He said Patel was bathing at a nearby hand pump.

&ldquo;After that, Patel brought human faeces lying nearby in a mug he was using for bathing and smeared it on my body including head and face,&rdquo; he claimed on Saturday while speaking to reporters near Maharajpur police station.
The man also claimed Patel abused him on the caste line.
&ldquo;I reported the matter to the panchayat and called for a meeting. Instead, the panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 600 on me on Friday,&rdquo; Ahirwar alleged.
Asked why he did not lodge a complaint with police on Friday, Ahirwar said he could not have abandoned the work midway.
"A case has been registered against Ramkripal Patel under sections 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act," Sub Divisional Officer of Police Manmohan Singh Baghel said.
Baghel said when Ahirwar was working with others, they were joking with Patel who was bathing nearby.
"They were hurling things at each other playfully when Ahirwar put grease on Patel's hand. Thereafter, Patel picked up human excreta with hand and threw it on Ahirwar's back," the police official said.
Ahirwar approached the police on Saturday with a complaint, Baghel said.
Asked about Ahirwar's claim on panchayat, Baghel said he did not have any information.
The accused and the victim are in the age group of 40 to 45, according to police.

The protesters, under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Balai Mahasangh, raised slogans and waved placards alleging increasing atrocities on members of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in the state.
Police on Wednesday arrested Pravesh Shukla, who is accused of urinating on a tribal youth in Sidhi district. Action under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) was also initiated. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday, following which the police registered a case against the accused.
Talking to reporters during the protest, Mahasangh president Manoj Parmar said, "Pravesh Shukla has brought shame to the entire country by urinating on a tribal youth in Sidhi district. Shukla should be punished severely. If possible, he should be hanged." People belonging to SC and ST communities in the state are still facing atrocities due to caste discrimination, he alleged.
"We are saddened not due to the citizens of Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, but by the perverted mentality and atrocities of people in our own country who consider themselves superior because of their birth in the so-called upper caste," he said.
Strictest action should be taken against all such people so that there is a sense of harmony in the Hindu community, he demanded.&nbsp;

Police have registered a case against seven persons, including two women, and arrested six of them in connection with the incident.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Thursday termed the thrashing of two Dalit youths in Shivpuri district as a "shame on humanity" and said he has directed the administration to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the accused persons.
Speaking to reporters, Mishra said he has also directed authorities to demolish any (property) encroachments made by the accused.
The minister also slammed the Congress for being silent on the issue and claimed leaders of the opposition party called up officials to "hush-up" the matter.
Notably, an incident of a man urinating on a tribal youth in MP's Sidhi district has recently caused a huge outrage.
On June 30, two Dalit youths were allegedly thrashed by members of a minority community on suspicion that they molested and filmed some girls at Varkhadi village in Shivpuri district, police said on Wednesday.
"A group of members from a minority community bashed the two men, blackened their faces, garlanded them with shoes and paraded them in Varkhadi village on Friday," Magroni police post in-charge Deepak Sharma said on Wednesday.
He said the allegations of molestation against the two men proved wrong during the investigation. The duo had spoken only over the phone with some girls in the village and not even met them, Sharma claimed.
State Home Minister Mishra said, "It is a shame on humanity and a Talibani act. It is a gruesome act, and Congressmen called officials over phone to hush-up the matter." "Dalit and Scheduled Caste persons were treated in an inhuman manner, they were garlanded with shoes, faeces were stuffed in their mouths and later inhuman acts were committed against them. Such acts will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh,&rdquo; said the minister, who is also the state government's spokesperson.
The accused persons have been arrested, he said.
Mishra also said he has "directed the administration to invoke NSA provisions against the accused, and if they have made any encroachment, then to take bulldozer action against them,&rdquo; Mishra said.
The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, an official earlier said.
Madhya Pradesh BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma has condemned the incident and wondered whether the Congress is maintaining "silence" on the issue due to its "appeasement policy".&nbsp;

The 12-member commission formed to probe the alleged suicide has concluded that Solanki took the extreme step due to his 'deteriorating academic performance'.
The committee headed by Professor Nand Kishore of the Chemistry department submitted its interim report on March 2 and a copy has also been shared with the Union government.
Solanki, a first-year chemical engineering student from Ahmedabad, allegedly died by suicide on February 12, a day after his semester exams ended.
Solanki&rsquo;s family alleged he was subjected to caste-based discrimination on campus which drove him to suicide.

The family of the 18-year-old IIT Bombay student who died allegedly by suicide has claimed that he was discriminated against on the basis of caste on the campus.
Some of his friends stopped talking to him when they learnt that Darshan Solanki was a Dalit, NDTV reported quoting Solanki's sister.
The IIT Bombay however has rejected charges of caste bias in the institute.
Solanki, a first year student of BTech (Chemical) died allegedly after jumping off the seventh floor of a hostel building on the Powai campus of the premier institute on 12 February.&nbsp;
The Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle, a student group, had called Solanki's death an &ldquo;institutional murder&rdquo;.
However, the institute on Tuesday said it takes utmost precautions to make the campus as inclusive as possible and it has zero tolerance for any discrimination by faculty.

In a series of tweets, Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle alleged that Darshan Solanki&rsquo;s death was an &lsquo;institutional murder&rsquo; due to &lsquo;harassment&rsquo; and &lsquo;lack of representation of faculty and counsellors from the marginalised&rsquo;.
According to the police, 18-year-old Solanki allegedly died by suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of a hostel building located on the campus on February 12.&nbsp;
No suicide note has been recovered and the police are probing a case of accidental death, PTI reported.
The deceased, who hailed from Ahmedabad, was a first-year student of the B.Tech (Chemical) course.
The incident came to light after security guards on the campus spotted the youth lying in a pool of blood, a police official said.

"According to preliminary investigation, the two sisters left their home on Wednesday afternoon after they were persuaded by Junaid and Sohail. Junaid and Sohail have confessed that they strangulated the girls after raping them," the SP said.
The duo then called Karimuddin and Arif to dispose of their bodies. They later hanged the bodies from a tree to make it look like suicide, Suman said.
An FIR has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrong&shy;ful restraint), 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/hyderabad-7-minor-boys-complain-of-sexual-abuse-hostel-warden-arrested-1662985304190">POCSO</a>) Act, he said.

A post-mortem examination is underway at the district hospital. Everything is being done with the consent of the girls' family members, he said.

Junaid was arrested following an encounter around 8.30 am, police said. A motorcycle, country-made pistol and ammunition were recovered from him.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said Junaid was injured in the encounter.
"The bodies have been handed over to family members, who will conduct their last rites," Kumar said.
SP Suman said clothes of the other accused have been sent for an examination.
Suman also dismissed claims that police used force to send the bodies for a post-mortem, which he said was conducted with their family's consent. A videography of the post-mortem examination was also done, the SP added.
The girls’ father, a landless labourer, expressed satisfaction over the police action in the case.
"We are satisfied with the police action in the case so far," said the sobbing father.
The victims' mother had lodged a complaint at the Nighasan Kotwali police station on Wednesday night, alleging that her daughters were raped and murdered.

"We are satisfied with the police action in the case so far," said the sobbing father.
The victims' mother had lodged a complaint at the Nighasan Kotwali police station on Wednesday night, alleging that her daughters were raped and murdered.

A class 7 Dalit student in Rajasthan's Barmer was allegedly beaten up by his teacher for failing to anwer a question. The boy was hospitalised after he complained of  stomachache  and headache. 
Accused teacher Ashok Mali was taken into custody after various Dalit organisations registered their protest after the incident came to light.
Doctors confirmed that there was no serious injury, and the condition of the child is stable. 
The police so far has not lodged any complaint in the matter.
The student fell unconscious due to the beating, following which he was taken to a government hospital for treatment, a police official said.
Earlier, a nine-year-old Dalit student, Indra Kumar, was allegedly thrashed by a teacher on July 20 for touching a pot, purportedly meant for the teacher, in the school.
He died on August 13 during treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad.
The accused teacher, Chhail Singh, 40, was arrested and a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the family members of the victim was announced by the state government.

Khan feeds Swami Narayana and then asks him to remove the chewed food and proceeds to eat it himself. 
The video was shot at an event in Chamarajapete in Bangaluru on Sunday. 
According to reports, the MLA targeted radical elements creating a rift between communities.

A man playing the 'dhol' announced that if any Dalit is seen on the border of Rajbir Pradhan's farm or tubewell, they will be punished with a fine of Rs 5,000 and 50 shoe slaps. The man, identified as Kunwar Pal, can be seen making the announcement and beating the drum in a video that has been widely shared. 
Rajbir Pradhan is the father of Vicky Tyagi, a gangster who was shot dead in 2015 inside court premises. 
After the video went viral, Pradhan and Pal, were arrested. 
SSP Muzaffarnagar Abhishek Yadav said that not only did he make objectionable casteist remarks, he also threatened violence against a particular community. A case has been registered under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
