A latest study has found a link between contraceptive pills and depression, and it was found that teenagers who started taking them have a 130% higher rate of depression.

Contraceptive pills are known to have severe side effects on women as per several studies. And, now a latest study published in Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences has found a link between oral contraceptive pills and depression.&nbsp;
It was found that teenagers who started taking birth control pills have a 130% higher rate of depression. Whereas, among adults, the depression rate was around 92%.&nbsp;
For the study, more than 2,64,000 women took part and it was noted that teenagers had a higher rate of depression because of contraceptive pills as they experience substantial hormonal changes.
Therese Johansson, of the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University in Sweden also talked about this study and said that there is a powerful influence of contraceptive pills on teenagers and that is interrelated to the hormonal changes that occur during puberty.&nbsp;

It was found in the study that 78% to 98% of men are ready to take male contraceptive pills; know more about it.

In the recent past, a piece of news made rounds on the internet which said that the day is not far when men can also have birth control pills. Even though the pill is not available in the market yet, it raised a question whether men will actually consider taking them.&nbsp;
Soon after this, a study was presented at the Reproductive Health Innovation Summit in Boston in February 2023, which says that men and their partners are in favour of birth control pills for men.&nbsp;
The survey was done by the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation which involved 19,000 adult men from eight different countries, namely Nigeria, Kenya, Cote d&rsquo;Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, and the USA.
And it was concluded that 78% to 98% of men are ready to take male contraceptive pills.

Till now contraceptive medicines were distributed in the market only for women to prevent unwanted pregnancy, but according to a recent research published in Nature Communications Journal, now men can also take contraceptive pills.&nbsp; These pills will prevent pregnancy for at least 2 hours if taken 30 minutes prior to sex.&nbsp;
<h3>How does this pill work?</h3>
The pill will prevent the sperm from swimming towards the eggs stopping them from being fertilized. According to researchers, this pill is 100 per cent effective and is capable of making men temporarily infertile.
<h3>Study was conducted on mice&nbsp;</h3>
This study was done on mice, in which it was revealed that this medicine had destroyed the fertility of rats in just 30 minutes and no negative effects were observed on them. There was no effect on their sexual behaviour as well.
<h3>How long is this pill effective?&nbsp;</h3>
According to the study, the effect of this pill remains 100% effective for the first 2 hours. It reduces up to 91% for the first three hours and 24 hours later the effect evades completely.

This will enable individuals to make an informed decision regarding their sexual and reproductive health.&nbsp;
As highlighted by the United Nations Population Fund there are quite a few contraceptive options that can be used. Ranging from pills, condoms,&nbsp;implants, intrauterine devices, surgical procedures that limit fertility and even options such as calendar method and abstinence can be used. Training and counselling sessions can help throw light on these options.&nbsp;
There is a large-scale emphasis on knowledge creation so that no pregnancy is unplanned or unintended.&nbsp;
