The Telangana State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has got mired in a controversy following the publication of the Preamble of the Constitution on the cover page of a school textbook allegedly without the words 'socialist' and 'secular'.
The SCERT, however, maintained that the error occurred due to oversight.
The Telangana State United Teachers' Federation (TSUTF) submitted a representation to the secretary of education department on Thursday complaining that the words 'socialist' and 'secular' were "removed" from the Preamble published on the cover page of the class 10 social studies textbook published by the SCERT.
The two words were included in the Preamble through the 42nd Constitutional amendment, the TSUTF recalled.
However, the Preamble, including the two words, was published in the pages inside class 8 and 10 social studies books, it said.
At a time when there is a debate "across the globe" that secularism was in danger in India, the publication of the old Preamble "the way some people want it" instead of the one that is in force gives rise to several doubts, the Federation claimed.
It said that the error was a major one and that either it happened intentionally or due to oversight.
The Federation urged that the correct Preamble be published and sought tough action against those responsible for wrongly publishing the Preamble, after conducting an inquiry.
Meanwhile, the SCERT said the error was inadvertent.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday announced that class 10 and 12 board examinations will begin from February 15.

Releasing the date sheet, the board said sufficient gap has been given between two subjects, and other factors such as competitive entrance tests have also been taken into account in deciding the dates.
Examination will begin at 10.30 am.

The exams, that were due to be held from May 4, have been postponed and the board will take the final decision after a review in the first week of June.
The chief executive and secretary of CISCE said that while Class 12 papers will be held at a later stage, Class 10th will get an option to either appear in offline exams later or get evaluated on the basis of a fair and unbiased criteria that will be developed by the board.

A horrific double murder has shocked Lucknow residents. Uttar Pradesh police first got reports of the crime at about 3:30 pm on Saturday. Police say that the daughter of the railway official, a student of Class 10, killed her mother and brother in Gautampalli colony area. 
Police officials revealed that the girl is a national level shooter and led them to the murder weapon herself, adding that her mental state is unstable The girl's father, is posted in Delhi as Executive Director of the Railway Board.
According to investigators, she fired the first bullet at the glass in the family's bathroom, before firing a second bullet at her 45-year-old mother and the third at her brother Sharad, aged 20. Her brother was reportedly shot in the head.
Police officials also found several cuts on her arms along with a razor she used to injure herself.
Cops confirmed that both victims were shot dead inside their own homes where their bodies were found. They added that the girl is depressed and will be sent to a juvenile home.
