Several political leaders in Punjab raised concerns over the alleged exclusion of Punjabi from the CBSE's draft scheme for the newly proposed twice-a-year board exam format.&nbsp;
Responding to the criticism, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a clarification on Wednesday, assuring that Punjabi would be included in the revised draft next year.
A senior CBSE official stated, "There is no change in the subjects offered today. This list is indicative. Next year, the Punjabi language examination will be there. All subjects offered today will continue in two board examinations next year."
Earlier, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains strongly condemned CBSE for omitting Punjabi from the draft scheme. He alleged that the board was attempting to remove Punjabi as a second language from the Class 10 and 12 board exams.&nbsp;
"We strongly object to CBSE's new exam pattern scheme, which attempts to erase Punjabi! Punjabi must be designated as the main language in Punjab and further be included as a regional language in CBSE for the rest of the nation, as it is spoken and read across multiple states," Bains said.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parambans Romana also criticized the central government, calling the omission of Punjabi a deliberate move to suppress the language.&nbsp;
"Why have you left out Punjabi in the new curriculum? Is this part of a conspiracy? I want to ask the BJP leaders&mdash;are you part of this conspiracy? This is an extremely troubling fact that you can't fight for your own mother tongue? Look at the way Tamil Nadu CM is fighting against the NEP," he remarked.
The CBSE notification included regional languages such as Rai, Urung, Tamang, Sherpa, Sanskrit, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Manipuri, Tibetan, Bhoti, Telugu, Bodo, Tangkhul, Bhutia, Kashmiri, Mizo, and Thai but did not mention Punjabi.
The controversy erupted a day after CBSE proposed a major reform in the Class 10 examination system, introducing two board exams per year from the 2025-26 academic session.&nbsp;
This move, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to ease academic pressure and provide students with opportunities to improve their scores.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has firmly dismissed allegations made by popular YouTuber Zaki Saudagar regarding a supposed leak of the 2025 board exams.
Saudagar, whose channel boasts over 600,000 subscribers and specializes in Physics and Physical Education content for Classes 11 and 12, asserted that the Class 12 Physical Education exam paper, conducted on February 17, had been leaked through the messaging app Telegram.
He claimed to have received a link to a private Telegram group purportedly sharing the question paper the night before the exam.
In response, CBSE issued an official statement categorically denying these claims. The board emphasized that such allegations are unfounded and are likely intended to induce unnecessary panic among students. Assuring the public of its vigilance, CBSE reiterated that it is actively monitoring the situation and is prepared to take action against those disseminating false information.
The board further highlighted the implementation of stringent measures to maintain the integrity of the examination process. It cautioned students against engaging with or spreading such misinformation, warning that those found guilty would face repercussions under CBSE's Unfair Means rules and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The CBSE board exams commenced on February 15, 2025, with over 42 lakh students participating at more than 7,800 centers nationwide and abroad. Specifically, 24.12 lakh Class 10 students are sitting exams in 84 different subjects, while over 17.88 lakh Class 12 students are tackling exams across 120 subjects. Board officials remain committed to ensuring a smooth and fair examination experience for all candidates.

The Central Board of Secondary Education will not award any division or distinction in class 10 and 12 board exams, a senior official said on Friday.
"No overall division, distinction or aggregate of marks shall be awarded. Also, if a candidate has offered more than five subjects, the decision to determine the best five subjects may be taken by the admitting institution or employer,&rdquo; said CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj.
Bhardwaj said the Board does not calculate, declare or inform the percentage of marks.
"If the percentage of marks is required for higher education or in employment, the calculation if any, may be done by the admitting institution or employer," he said.
Earlier, the CBSE also did away with the practice of issuing merit lists to avoid unhealthy competition.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday rolled out new schemes&nbsp;for the class 10th and 12th board exams for&nbsp;the academic session 2021-22.
As per the new schemes,&nbsp;the academic session will be divided into two terms, with 50 per cent syllabus in each term. In an official statement, CBSE said a systemic approach by looking into the interconnectivity of concepts and topics by the subjects experts and the board will conduct examinations at the end of each term on the basis of the bifurcated syllabus.
The syllabus for the Board examination 2021-22 will be rationalised similar to that of the last academic session and will notified in July 2021.&nbsp;
For academic transactions, however, schools will follow the curriculum and syllabus released by the Board. Schools will also use alternative academic calendar and inputs from the NCERT on transacting the curriculum.
The Board further said that efforts will be made to make internal assessment/practical/project work more credible and valid as per the guidelines and moderation policy to be announced by the Board to ensure fair distribution of marks.
CBSE first term exams will be held in November-December, whereas the second term examination to be scheduled in March-April.
