Fresh from assembly election late last year, which saw Telangana's founding party, Bharat Rashtra Samiti dethroned, the state is now geared up to vote for 17 Lok Sabha seats on May 13.
With Congress hoping to replicate its assembly election performance and BJP aiming to increase its tally of 4 seats from 2019, BRS is leaving no stone unturned to stop both national parties from expanding their base in the state.
On the campaign trail this week, editorji's Vikram Chandra caught up with BRS leader and former minister, KT Rama Rao on where does his party stand in the electoral fight where two national parties are challenging each other.

Telangana's Bharat Rashtra Samithi has called for a massive state-wide protest on 16th March against the arrest of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter K Kavitha in the Delhi liquor policy scam case.

&nbsp;The arrest of K Kavitha, daughter of former chief minister and BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, a day before the Election Commission is set to announce the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections, may have some psychological impact on party workers.
Former minister T Harish Rao said at a press conference that the party will hold protests in the headquarters of all the assembly constituencies tomorrow.
The Enforcement Directorate arrested BRS leader K Kavitha today in Hyderabad in connection with a money laundering probe linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
After the BRS's humiliating defeat in the November 30 assembly polls, the party is plagued by the desertion of sitting MPs and some leaders reportedly choosing not to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.
Kavitha's arrest came as a rude shock to the BRS which is already limping after losing power. Senior party leaders PTI spoke to, said on condition of anonymity, that the arrest of the prominent BRS leader will affect the morale of party members.
Earlier, the BRS MLC and former Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad had said she was ready to face any inquiry.
"We state that we will face any kind of inquiry. If the agencies come and ask us questions, we will certainly answer. But tarnishing leaders' images by giving selective leaks to the media; people will refute it," Kavitha had said.
Kavitha has chosen not to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. She lost to BJP's Arvind Dharmapuri in the 2019 polls in Nizamabad.
Political analyst S Nagesh Kumar expressed the opinion that the arrest of Kavitha could lead to more people deserting the party.
&ldquo;It (the arrest) will definitely show an impact on the party because she is an important voice in the party and, moreover, she is KCR&rsquo;s daughter. So there will be a sort of psychological impact on the party," he told PTI.
"No matter how big a person, they will have to pay the price for their actions, omissions or commissions,&rdquo; he added.
Furthermore, he said, the arrest may also lead to an exodus of several leaders to other parties, fearing agencies such as ED and CBI.
Speaking to mediapersons after the arrest, Harish Rao said the action against Kavitha was a result of a conspiracy to target the BRS party. According to him, the arrest has come even as Kavitha's petition challenging the ED summons in the Supreme Court will be coming up on March 19.
&ldquo;When the matter is being examined by the court and when the petition will come up in just three days, why should they arrest her?,&rdquo; Harish Rao questioned.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, G Lasya Nanditha, died in a car accident near Hyderabad on Friday.
The 37-year-old was reportedly returning to the city from Basara when the car crashed on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Patancheru of Telangana&rsquo;s Sangareddy district around 6.30 am.&nbsp;
Police suspect that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
"The driver of the Sports Utility Vehicle &ndash; Maruti XL6 &ndash; appears to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the metal barrier on the left side of the expressway, killing her on the spot," Police said.
The car driver sustained major injuries. He was shifted to a nearby private hospital in Patancheru. Currently, his condition is critical.&nbsp;
Lasya Nanditha was born in 1986 in Hyderabad. &nbsp;She is the daughter of former BRS legislator late G Sayanna. In her decade-long career in politics, she served as a corporator in the Kavadiguda ward before being elected as MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment in the 2023 Telangana assembly elections.
BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao condoled Lasya Nanditha's death and assured all support to her bereaved family.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over her death. "The untimely death of Cantonment legislator Lasya Nandita left me deeply shocked. I had a close relationship with Nandita's father Swargiya Sayanna. He passed away in the same month last year... It is very sad that Nandita also died suddenly in the same month," he wrote on X.

Telangana chief minister has accused the Congress of being involved in the stabbing of a BRS poll candidate on Monday

The BRS on Monday accused the Congress of being responsible for the knife attack on its assembly election candidate and MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy during a poll campaign in Telangana.
Addressing rallies in Banswada and Narayankhed, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed serious concern over the incident.
Describing the violent attack on Prabhakar Reddy as an attack on himself, Rao said Telangana intellectuals and others should condemn it.
"I feel like speaking for an hour. But, I am a bit upset. The reason is, we are working for people. We are fighting to solve problems. We did not trouble our enemies also... Unfortunately, the useless opposition parties, useless people, stabbed our Medak MP Prabhakar Reddy who is a candidate in Dubbak with a knife in Siddipet district," he said.
"These Congress useless fellows... (They are) resorting to violence. I am condemning this violence," he said.
The Telangana Chief Minister said he wanted to visit the injured MP in the hospital in Hyderabad immediately after receiving information on the attack.
However, he was told by state minister Harish Rao and others to visit the hospital after attending his public meetings as there was no threat to the life of the injured MP.
"By god's grace, he is out of danger. But, is this politics? Lawlessness?," he asked.
He urged the "Telangana society" to give a befitting reply to the attack.
"These useless people, who cannot work for people, who do not have the guts to face elections, are now resorting to violence and attacks. (They are) attacking our candidates with knife. I urge that Telangana society should teach a lesson...," he said.

Rao pointed out that his party has never indulged in violence though many elections have taken place during the last 10 years.
&ldquo;If the attacks do not stop, if there is no self-restraint, we also have courage. If we resort to such acts, you will not remain. Even (your) dust also will not remain,&rdquo; he said.
Prabhakar Reddy survived due to the alertness of his gunman who was also injured, Rao noted and appealed to the intellectuals in Telangana to condemn violence in politics.
Later, speaking at a rally in Naraynkhed, the CM slammed the Congress over the incident.
Noting that Telangana has witnessed rapid development under BRS rule, he said, "they are unable to digest that and resorting to attacks. Only with vote, we have to teach them a lesson and open their eyes." Meanwhile, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao blamed "Congress goons" for the attack on the BRS candidate and said, "I strongly condemn the murder attempt on BRS MP Sri Prabhakar Reddy Garu by Congress Goons." "Desperate Congress now resorting to physical elimination attempts of our leaders in Telangana. This was of course to be expected with a 3rd rate Criminal being made the TPCC president," Rama Rao said on X.
Violence has no place in a democratic society, he said and expressed hope that the Election Commission would take serious action in this regard.
Expressing shock over the incident, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan directed the state Director General of Police to take stringent measures to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of contesting candidates and campaigners during the election period.
PCC president Revanth Reddy slammed Rama Rao over his tweet mentioning "Congress goons".
Dubbing Rama Rao as "Drama Rao", Reddy said using the attack on a Member of Parliament for "cheap" political purposes shows that the loss of BRS (in polls) is certain.
People have understood the "crooked" attitude of BRS to link the incident to Congress, he said on X (formerly twitter).
He sought a comprehensive investigation into the incident to bring out the truth.
Reacting to the incident, Union Minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy told reporters that he was not aware of the details, but disapproved of such incidents.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi also condemned the incident and took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'mohabbat ki dukaan' comments.
"Aage &ldquo;Mohabbat ki dukaan&rdquo; aur peeche &ldquo;tashaddud ka makaan.&rdquo; Absolutely condemnable attempt by CongRSS people to intimidate Reddy gaaru. @RahulGandhi it&rsquo;s an unfortunate flashback to the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom that began on October 31 under Congress rule. RSS Gaaru @revanth_anumula , your influence is very visible. Good job," Owaisi alleged.
"My best wishes are with my dear colleague Reddy sahab. Hope he&rsquo;s back on the ground in no time, inshallah," he said.
Prabhakar Reddy was on Monday stabbed while he was campaigning in Siddipet district by a 38-year-old man, police said.&nbsp;

BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy was stabbed while he was campaigning in Siddipet district allegedly by an unidentified man.

Ruling BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and party candidate from Dubbak assembly segment was stabbed while he was campaigning on Monday allegedly by an unidentified man in Siddipet district, police said.
The MP from Medak Lok Sabha constituency suffered injuries in his stomach and has been shifted to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be stable, they said.
The incident took place in Doulthabad mandal when Prabhakar Reddy, who has been fielded by BRS from Dubbak for the November 30 assembly elections, was campaigning, police said.
TV footage showed Prabhakar Reddy pressing the stab wound on his stomach (to stop the bleeding) while sitting in a vehicle.
The man who allegedly stabbed the MP was "beaten up" by some locals.
"The assailant has been taken into custody. We are verifying his details," Siddipet Commissioner of Police N Swetha told PTI.
Further investigations are on.

An open debate conducted by a Telugu news channel in connection with the November 30 Telangana Legislative Assembly election turned ugly on Wednesday with a scuffle breaking out between a BRS MLA and his BJP rival. However, police and others intervened and separated the two, the video showed.
State BJP president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy alleged the BRS MLA from Quthbullapur in Hyderabad K P Vivekanand had attacked the BJP candidate from the constituency Kuna Srisailam Goud as he was unable to answer the question posed by the latter.
Vivekanand attacking Goud by holding the latter's throat is an act of timidity, Reddy said in a statement.
He said police should book a case against the BRS MLA failing which the BJP would take up a legal battle.
When contacted, BRS spokesperson Sravan Dasoju alleged Goud made a reference to the BRS MLA's father though both were supposed to maintain decency and decorum during the debate While Vivekanand is an incumbent MLA, Srisailam Goud was a legislator earlier, he said.
"Both of them are supposed to have maintained decency, decorum," and be restrained.
Goud should not have driven the debate 'attacking' Vivekanand's parents in the first place and the ruling party MLA should not have attacked his rival. "Both could have been sensible and realised the whole world is watching them," Dasoju said.

One name missing in the list is that of K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti. The Telangana chief minister has not kept his national ambitions hidden but also insists on a non-BJP, non-Congress front.
While that could explain his non-inclusion in a mega Opposition meet of which Congress is a part, there are growing allegations against the BRS of being BJP's B team.
In the last week of June when opposition parties held their first meet, Telangana minister and KCR's son KT Rama Rao held meetings with union ministers in Delhi which reportedly included Amit Shah.&nbsp;
Though the agenda of the meetings was reported to be several projects in Telangana which are stalled due to lack of support from the Centre, there was speculation that allegations of money laundering against KCR's daughter Kavitha may have been discussed. Congress has alleged a quid pro quo between BJP and BRS as part of which BJP will go soft on K Kavitha.&nbsp;
The BRS has been trying to expand its footprints in Maharashtra, KCR has held several rallies. He even led a huge convoy of over 600 vehicles from Hyderabad to Maharashtra&rsquo;s Solapur and Pandharpur for a two-day visit on June 27 much to the displeasure of the Maha Vikas Agadhi coalition of NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT).
They accused KCR of trying to benefit the saffron party by splitting anti-BJP votes that would go to Maha Vikas Aghadi.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Launching a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said his remote control was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described the state's ruling party as "BJP's B-Team" and its new nomenclature, BRS, as 'BJP Rishtedar Party'.
Gandhi alleged that the corruption charges against Rao and his party's leaders have made them subservient to the BJP, and asserted that he told all other opposition leaders that the Congress would not join any bloc where the BRS was involved.
Addressing a public meeting here, Gandhi said, "BRS is like BJP Rishtedar Samiti. KCR thinks he is a king and Telangana is his kingdom." The Congress has always stood against the BJP in Parliament, but Rao's party has been "BJP's B-team", he said.

As many as 35 BRS leaders, including former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and ex-minister Telangana government Jupally Krishna Rao, joined the Congress and met the party's top leadership in New Delhi on Monday.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders formally joined the Congress in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi. Party general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal and Congress chief of its Telangana unit A Revanth Reddy were also present at the meeting.
After meeting the Congress top brass, the BRS leaders announced at a press conference that they are joining the Congress. They will later address a public rally in Khammam, Telangana expected to be held in the first week of July with the likely presence of AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

The development comes ahead of Assembly elections in the state later this year. The Congress is seeking to wrest power from the BRS, which has been in power for the last almost a decade in Telangana.

While on her way to the probe agency's office, Kavitha displayed mobile phones used by her in the past, which she said were sought by the federal agency for its ongoing probe.
She said that the phones disproved ED's claim that the BRS leader had destroyed certain handsets. The BRS leader stated that she was submitting her previously used devices as part of her due assistance and co-operation in the agency's investigation.
Kavitha was earlier summoned by the ED on March 11 and 20 and grilled for a total of 18-19 hours. Kavitha is being questioned in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy case.
