<p>Singh previously helmed films like "Kesari", "Punjab 1984", "Jatt &amp; Juliet" and "Dil Bole Hadippa!".</p>
<p>"Border", which chronicled a pivotal chapter from the 1971 India-Pakistan war, was a hit at the box office when it was released in June 1997. The film also starred Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry and Puneet Issar.</p>

<p>The Instagram post announcing his inclusion read, &lsquo;Welcoming Fauji @ahan.shetty to the Battalion of #Border2,&rsquo; signaling Ahan&rsquo;s entry into the war film franchise.</p>

<p>Following the huge success of &lsquo;Gadar 2&rsquo; in 2023, Sunny Deol is set to star in &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo;. The original film, directed by JP Dutta, was released 27 years ago and was a massive hit.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sunny announced &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; on June 13 with an Instagram post. In the accompanying video, the actor states in a voiceover that he is returning to fulfill the promise he made two decades ago.</p>

<p>&lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; is being produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film will be directed by Anurag Singh, who previously directed Akshay Kumar-starrer &lsquo;Kesari&rsquo;. He has also directed Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Punjabi film Punjab &lsquo;1984&rsquo;, and the first two films of the Punjabi romcom franchise &lsquo;Jatt &amp; Juliet&rsquo;.</p>

<p>The original film featured an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt, among others. There were rumors of Ayushmann Khurrana being part of Border 2, but his name was not included in the initial announcement. The 1997 film was based on the Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. The premise of &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; has not yet been announced by the makers.</p>
<p>According to the initial announcement, the film will include a revamped version of &lsquo;Sandese Aate Hain.&rsquo; The song is featured in the Instagram post, which also tags lyricist Javed Akhtar, original music composer Anu Malik, and singer Sonu Nigam. Javed won the National Film Award for the song&rsquo;s lyrics. The original song also featured Roop Kumar Rathod's vocals, but he was not nominated for many awards for the song. Nigam had expressed his grief about this in the past.</p>
<p>In a previous conversation with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, Sunny mentioned that &lsquo;Border 2&rsquo; was initially planned in 2015 but was shelved because his films were not doing well at the time.&nbsp;</p>
