Footage posted on X showed the ripped engine cover flapping in the wind with a torn Southwest logo.
There were 135 passengers and six crew members in the aircraft. The mishap took place amid increasing safety concerns with Boeing jets.
According to Reuters, no one was injured and Southwest Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time (1415 GMT) on Sunday and was towed to the gate after losing the engine cowling.
A Southwest spokesperson told The New York Post that the incident was the result of a &ldquo;mechanical issue&rdquo; on the plane, which was manufactured in 2017.
"Southwest Flight 3695 returned to Denver International Airport this morning and landed safely after experiencing a mechanical issue. Our Customers will arrive at Houston Hobby on another aircraft, approximately three hours behind schedule,&rdquo; a Southwest spokesperson told The Post.
After the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a probe into the incident.&nbsp;

Boeing has discovered that its largest supplier has improperly drilled holes in a component of 737 Max Jet, threatening to derail delivery targets for its best-selling model. As per Bloomberg, the defect is found in the component that helps in maintaining cabin pressure of the 737 Max Jet.&nbsp;
The Federal Aviation Administration has said that the latest issue for Boeing&rsquo;s cash-cow jet isn&rsquo;t a safety threat. However, this comes as another complication for Boeing as it speeds the manufacturing pace of the 737 family while dealing with supply-chain strains and the aftermath of a strike at Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc., the supplier that builds about 70% of the narrowbody jet frames.

&ldquo;During factory inspections, we identified fastener holes that did not conform to our specifications in the aft pressure bulkhead on certain 737 airplanes,&rdquo; Boeing told Bloomberg. As per a report by The Air Current, the inspections have uncovered hundreds of misaligned and duplicated holes in some aircraft.&nbsp;
This would delay the delivery of the aircraft including snarling a plane going to the Malaysian Airline System. As Boeing conducts inspections and determines how many models were affected and what work they need, the company is also evaluating whether it will be able to reach its target of delivering 400 to 450 of the 737-family jets this year.

Indian aviation regulator DGCA has barred 90 SpiceJet pilots from operating the Boeing 737 Max aircraft after finding them not properly trained.
"For the moment, we have barred these pilots from flying the Max and they have to retrain successfully for flying the aircraft," DGCA chief Arun Kumar said in a statement.
He also said that the regulator will take "strict action against those found responsible for the lapse." The pilots will have to undergo training again, in a proper manner, on the Max simulator.
The Boeing 737 Max planes were grounded in India by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 13, 2019, three days after the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max aircraft near Addis Ababa, which killed 157 people, including four Indians.
The ban on the planes was lifted in August last year after the DGCA was satisfied with US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing's necessary software rectifications in the aircraft.
Proper pilot training on the simulator was also among the conditions of the DGCA for removing the ban on the Max planes after a span of 27 months.
A SpiceJet spokesperson on Wednesday confirmed that the DGCA has restricted 90 pilots of the airline from flying the Max planes.
“SpiceJet has 650 pilots trained on the Boeing 737 Max. The DGCA had an observation on the training profile followed for 90 pilots, and therefore, as per the advise of the DGCA, SpiceJet has restricted 90 pilots from operating the Max aircraft, until these pilots undergo re-training to the satisfaction of the DGCA. These pilots continue to remain available for other Boeing 737 aircraft," the spokesperson said.
This restriction does not impact the operations of the Max aircraft whatsoever. SpiceJet, currently, operates 11 Max aircraft and about 144 pilots are required to operate these aircraft, the spokesperson said.
"Of the 650 trained pilots on the Max, 560 continue to remain available, which is much more than the current requirement,” the spokesperson said.
SpiceJet is the only Indian airline that has the Max aircraft in its fleet.
Akasa Air, the new airline backed by ace investor Jhunjhunwala and aviation veterans Aditya Ghosh and Vinay Dube, had in November last year signed a deal with Boeing to purchase 72 Max planes. Akasa Air has not got any of these planes as yet.

Flight MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou went down without an emergency radio call from pilots, slamming into a forested hillside about 100 miles from its destination, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China. 
Over the week, rain and bad weather has hampered with search operations at the crash site, but investigating teams have found 2 black boxes among 183 other parts of the aircraft. The black boxes, which will contain flight data as well as the cockpit recorder, have been sent for analysis. 
Cockpit recorders which will contain the conversations between the pilots, which will aid in determining the exact cause of the crash. The hunt for the flight data recorder is ongoing.
Causes of the crash range from an equipment malfunction, to a weather-related event, to pilot illness or suicide, to a terrorist attack of some description. Nothing has been ruled out.
As investigators work on putting together the puzzle pieces,
here's what we know so far:

According to reports, the aircraft did not report any technical snags and aviation authorities have confirmed that there were not weather issues or any other problems. Chinese investigators said air traffic controllers tried multiple times to reach pilots of the doomed jet after it tipped into the dive, but received no response to their calls. 
2. Pilots' illness or suicide
The pilots at the control of China Eastern Flight 5735 included one of China's most experienced commercial aviators and a much younger captain with a family pedigree, according to media reports in China. The captain had 6,709 hours in the 737 model, while the first co-pilot had a total of 31,769 flying hours, officials said at a briefing. The second co-pilot had 556 hours of flying hours experience. They all had good performance records and stable family conditions.
As per reports, investigating authorities have reason to believe that no communication from the pilots before the plane's steep descent could be because of poor mental health of one or both of the pilots. 
3. Chinese authorities have not yet declared the official cause 
A Bloomberg News review of Flightradar24 data showed the jet was flying well above normal speeds during the dive, possibly nearing the speed of sound. Aircraft such as the 737-800 are designed not to dive so aggressively, so some kind of aircraft failure or pilot action would be required to keep its nose pointed down for so long. 
China Eastern said it is carrying out a comprehensive investigation into the crash. A spokesman said the plane was brought into the fleet in June 2015, its maintenance followed a strict plan and its technical condition was normal and stable. The airline grounded all its Boeing 737-800 jets from Tuesday but has since emphasised that the move does not necessarily mean there are any safety issues with that type of aircraft.
China's Vice Premier Liu He has been tasked with overseeing the investigation, which will be carried out by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Authorities will work alongside a senior investigator from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and representatives from Boeing and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

Boeing 737 Max aircraft is an advanced version of Boeing 737-800 and both belong to the 737 series. The US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing did not respond to PTI's request for a statement on the matter.
Two Boeing 737 Max aircraft were involved in accidents in the six month period between October 2018 and March 2019, killing a total of 346 people. Following these two accidents, the DGCA had banned Boeing 737 Max planes in India in March 2019.

India's aviation watchdog DGCA ordered "enhanced surveillance" of Boeing 737 aircraft operating in the country. Earlier in the day, China Eastern airline's Boeing 737-800 had crashed with over 130 people on board.&nbsp; Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Vistara are the three Indian airlines which operate Boeing 737s, as per reports. Arun Kumar, the chief of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, told PTI, "Flight safety is serious business and we are closely studying the situation. In the interim, we are focusing on enhanced surveillance of our 737 fleet." India had reportedly banned Boeing 737-Max planes in the country between March 2019 and August 2021 due to a string of mishaps. The China crash reportedly occurred in Teng county near Wuzhou city. All 132 people on board the ill-fated flight were feared dead. The cause was not immediately known, even as the "shocked" Chinese President ordered an investigation.

Singh reiterated that  regulators from worldwide especially the United States, Europe and India had scrutinized the aircraft multiple times before giving a nod for take-off. 
SpiceJet, which is among India's largest private airlines, has banked heavily on the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline has already acquired 13 of them out of a total order of 205 jets.
The overall worth of the deal is $22 billion and the airline expects supply of the aircraft to resume December onwards.

Spicejet&nbsp;is bringing back the Boeing 737 MAX jetliner after grounding it for two years and adding free broadband for customers onboard.&nbsp; The Boeing 737 MAX jetliner, which was grounded for more than 2 years after 346 people were killed in two fatal air crashes was given the nod for taking to the skies again by the&nbsp;Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).&nbsp; Reassuring travellers, Ajay&nbsp;Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet&nbsp;said, "The aircraft has gone through the greatest scrutiny of any aircraft in history" and is today ''the safest aircraft in the world." Singh&nbsp;reiterated that&nbsp;&nbsp;regulators from worldwide especially the United States, Europe and India had scrutinized the aircraft&nbsp;multiple times before giving a nod for take-off.&nbsp; 
SpiceJet, which is among India's largest private airlines, has banked heavily on the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline has already acquired 13 of them out of a total order of 205 jets.
The overall worth of the deal is $22 billion and the airline expects supply of the aircraft to resume December onwards.
