Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said digital platforms must be accountable for the content they host and ensure the online safety of children and citizens.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday asserted that digital platforms must take responsibility for the content they host and ensure fair revenue sharing with content creators and news organisations, cautioning that innovation will suffer if creators are denied due compensation.
Addressing the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) Conclave here, Vaishnaw also underlined the need to regulate the use of AI-generated content, saying such material should not be generated without the consent of the person whose face, voice or personality is used.
"Platforms must take responsibility for the content that is hosted by them. The online safety of children and all citizens is the responsibility of the platforms," Vaishnaw said, underlining that digital intermediaries have transformed into powerful media outlets.
He stressed that intellectual property must be respected and fairly compensated, noting that society's progress in science, technology, arts, and literature depends on it. Digital platforms, he said, should ensure fair revenue sharing not just with news organisations but also with independent creators in remote areas, influencers, professors, and researchers.
"I request all platforms to rethink their negotiation policies. If voluntary action is not taken, many countries have already shown that legal pathways exist," he said.
He said digital platforms need to "wake up" and understand the importance of reinforcing trust in the institutions that human society has built over thousands of years.
The minister for Information and Broadcasting, Railways and IT said the society is struggling with several issues that need to be addressed in the next decade -- online safety, authenticity of news content, safety of the children, protection against obscenity, protection against synthetically generated fake content.
"All these issues require decisive steps today because they are challenging and even destroying the fundamental tenets of our society: trust in institutions built over centuries," he said.
Similarly, Vaishnaw said, every institution is based on the fundamental tenet that mutual trust defines the entire core of the institution.
However, the way the world is evolving, that core tenet is under threat, particularly from emerging technologies such as deepfakes that can make people believe in events that never occurred, he said.
He said that the threat could be from a barrage of disinformation, which can create a sense of distrust that does not exist in real life, and synthetically generated pictures of well-respected people in society with absolutely no correlation with reality.
"And all that so-called news or so-called information, when it reaches the common citizen, the common citizen starts questioning the very basic structure of society. That is the big threat."
"And this is not something that we in India alone are observing. In my interactions with practically every country, every society is struggling with these issues," he said.
The minister wondered how people rebuild that trust within institutions that has been created over centuries. How can these institutions be protected from the threat emerging from the current shape and form of the internet, he said.
"That is the inflection point we are facing. At this inflection point, the online safety of citizens is becoming a major concern," he said.
The minister cautioned that non-adherence to basic principles would make digital platforms accountable.
He also underlined the need to regulate the use of AI-generated content, saying such material should not be generated without the consent of the person whose face, voice or personality is used.
"The time has come to make that big inflectional change. I request the platforms to cooperate with this human society's basic needs. The society which is today asking for this change has to be respected," he said.
Vaishnaw said human society is built on trust in institutions -- from the family and social identity to the judiciary, media and legislature -- all of which operate on the fundamental premise of trust.
Citing the media as an example, the minister said its credibility rests on being unbiased, verifying information before publication and remaining accountable for its content.
The minister said people must realise that the nature of the internet has changed and it is no longer the open-source space that was primarily used to exchange information between different parts of the world.
"Today, it has become a powerful media outlet. And like media organisations, platforms must take responsibility. The time is gone when platforms could say they are not responsible for content. Those times are gone. Platforms have changed from being pure intermediaries to becoming hosts to the world," he said.
He said like a hotel manager verifies guests to ensure they do not engage in illegal activities, platforms must also take responsibility for any harmful content hosted by them.
"The virality of platform-hosted content is known to all of us. Information, even misinformation, can spread to millions within hours. Therefore, the time has come for platforms to take responsibility," he said.
Vaishnaw said there must be user consent for synthetically generated content.
"How can a video of a famous news anchor be generated without consent, how can an IT industry leader's video appear without his consent asking people to do something. This is not acceptable. Consent must be mandatory," he said.
He said the time has also come for platforms to take proactive action against cyber fraud and cybercrime, which everyone has seen in the recent past.
The minister said Parliament has passed a law recently that has saved crores of families from becoming bankrupt due to online gaming addiction.
He said algorithms are designed to make content addictive, and once engaged, users often cannot exit easily.
"These are real challenges. The courts are concerned. The judiciary has repeatedly expressed concern about the societal harm. Parliamentary committees have conducted extensive consultations and submitted comprehensive reports. I urge media and platform representatives here to go through those reports carefully," he said.

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said India is focused on practical applications of AI, including enterprise productivity, and solutions for population-scale challenges such as healthcare, agriculture, and climate change.
Speaking at a research symposium at the AI Impact Summit, the minister also expressed happiness over the strong participation and optimism shown by young people at an AI Expo on Tuesday. He informed that about 2.5 lakh attendees, mostly under the age of 30, took part across the exhibition area.
"It was a phenomenal response when I interacted with the young minds. I was so surprised by the optimism that most of the young people expressed towards this opportunity which is coming for them," Vaishnaw said.
The minister said he was feeling hopeful for a totally new future for India and for the world. "We, in India, are very focused on AI in the edge, AI for use cases, AI for solving real-world problems, AI for improving the productivity in the enterprises, for population-scale problems like healthcare, like agriculture, like climate change. These are things we are focussed on here in India. And the AI submit brings that opportunity," he said.
The minister asked participants of the symposium to come out with solid concrete suggestions on how to make AI safe. AI is a great tool and should be used for the benefit of humans.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday rejected International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva&rsquo;s characterisation of India as part of a &ldquo;second grouping&rdquo; of artificial intelligence (AI) powers, asserting that international assessments place the country among the world&rsquo;s top AI-ready nations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Vaishnaw questioned the basis of the IMF&rsquo;s classification and pointed to findings by Stanford University that, he said, rank India third globally in AI preparedness.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I don't know what the IMF criteria is but Stanford places India at 3rd in the world for AI preparedness. I don't think your classification is correct,&rdquo; the Minister said, adding that India should be considered &ldquo;clearly in the first group.&rdquo;
Vaishnaw said India&rsquo;s AI strategy is focused on building capabilities across what he described as &ldquo;five layers in the AI architecture&rdquo; &mdash; the application layer, model layer, chip layer, infrastructure layer and energy layer.&nbsp;
&ldquo;We are working on all the five layers,&rdquo; he said, noting that India is making &ldquo;very good progress&rdquo; across each of them. He linked this effort to India&rsquo;s broader economic growth, describing it as the fastest-growing major economy.
Highlighting India&rsquo;s emphasis on real-world deployment, the Minister said the country&rsquo;s strength lies in developing and delivering AI applications for enterprises. &ldquo;On the application layer, we will probably be the biggest supplier of services to the world,&rdquo; he said, explaining that Indian companies work closely with businesses to understand their processes and deploy AI-based solutions.
Vaishnaw argued that returns from artificial intelligence adoption are driven more by practical use cases than by building extremely large models. &ldquo;ROI doesn't come from creating a very large model,&rdquo; he said, adding that most applications can be effectively addressed using models in the range of 20 to 50 billion parameters.
He said India is currently developing &ldquo;a bouquet&rdquo; of such models, which are already being deployed across sectors to improve productivity and efficiency. According to the Minister, the government&rsquo;s focus is on ensuring widespread &ldquo;diffusion&rdquo; of AI across the economy.
The comments come ahead of an AI Summit that India is set to host next month, where New Delhi is expected to outline its approach to responsible and inclusive AI, while showcasing progress in domestic talent, adoption and sector-specific applications.
Reiterating India&rsquo;s global standing, Vaishnaw cited international evaluations on AI readiness and talent. &ldquo;Stanford places India as third in terms of AI penetration, in terms of AI preparedness, and in terms of AI talent... Actually on AI talent, it is number two,&rdquo; he said, maintaining that the &ldquo;second grouping&rdquo; description does not reflect India&rsquo;s current position.

"This 1.5-km-long mountain tunnel is among the longest in Palghar district and is located between the Virar and Boisar bullet train stations. It is the second tunnel breakthrough in Maharashtra, as the first 5-km-long underground tunnel between Thane and BKC was completed in September 2025," a Railway Ministry press note said.

The 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project, which passes through Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, is India's only high-speed rail project designed to operate bullet trains at a speed of 320 kmph, covering the entire distance in 2 hours and 17 minutes.

Explaining the purpose of the sleeper variant, the minister said, &ldquo;The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been designed keeping long-distance travel of over a thousand kilometers in mind. This train will provide a fast, comfortable, and modern travel experience to long-distance passengers.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is equipped with advanced safety features, an improved suspension system, and world-class sleeper coaches to make overnight journeys more convenient.&rdquo;
Vaishnaw also announced the fare structure for the Guwahati&ndash;Howrah route. &ldquo;Typically, airfare on the Guwahati&ndash;Howrah route ranges between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000, and sometimes reaches as high as ₹10,000.&nbsp;
In the Vande Bharat Sleeper, the 3AC fare from Guwahati to Howrah has been set at approximately ₹2,300, which is quite affordable for common passengers. Meanwhile, the 2AC fare will be around ₹3,000. Additionally, keeping the middle class in mind, the First AC fare has been proposed at approximately ₹3,600,&rdquo; he said.
According to the minister, around 12 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to be ready and inducted into the railway network by the end of this year, after which their expansion will be scaled up rapidly next year.

Indian Railways recently completed the final high-speed trial of the indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat Sleeper Train under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The trial was conducted on the Kota&ndash;Nagda section, where the train achieved a maximum speed of 180 kmph, marking a key milestone in India&rsquo;s rail modernisation efforts.
During the trial, comprehensive technical assessments were carried out, including evaluations of ride stability, oscillation and vibration behaviour, braking performance, emergency braking systems, safety mechanisms, and other critical parameters. The train&rsquo;s performance at high speed was found to be fully satisfactory, and the CRS declared the trial successful.
Earlier, Vaishnaw had shared a video of the high-speed trial on social media, showcasing the train running at 180 kmph on the Kota&ndash;Nagda section. The video also featured a water-glass stability demonstration, where glasses filled with water remained steady without spillage even at high speed, highlighting the train&rsquo;s ride quality, suspension system, and technological robustness.
The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper rake used during the trial has been designed for long-distance travel and is equipped with modern passenger amenities. These include comfortable sleeper berths, advanced suspension systems, automatic doors, modern toilets, fire detection and safety monitoring systems, CCTV-based surveillance, digital passenger information systems, and energy-efficient technologies aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and safety.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are fitted with a range of advanced technological and safety features, including KAVACH anti-collision technology; crashworthy and jerk-free semi-permanent couplers with anti-climbers; fire barrier doors at the end of each coach; aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems in electrical cabinets and lavatories; regenerative braking for improved energy efficiency; air-conditioning units with indigenously developed UV-C lamp-based disinfection systems; centrally controlled automatic plug doors and fully sealed wider gangways; CCTV cameras in all coaches; emergency talk-back units for communication between passengers and the train manager or loco pilot; special lavatories for Divyangjan passengers in driving coaches at both ends; a centralised coach monitoring system; and ergonomically designed ladders for easier access to upper berths.
The successful completion of the CRS high-speed trial clears the way for the introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper services. Indian Railways said the development reflects its focus on innovation, safety, and the advancement of indigenous rail manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Briefing reporters on the decisions taken by the cabinet, he said in the last 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused on sports, especially to bring forward talent in the rural areas.
The new policy is part of the effort, he said.
The minister said the second key objective is to make sports a "people's moment".

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday inaugurated the country's largest automobile Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Maruti Suzuki India Limited's Manesar plant in Haryana.
The Railway Ministry said it is a key infrastructure development that significantly enhances the logistics efficiency of automobile transportation.
"The Manesar facility is connected to Patli railway station through a 10 km dedicated rail link, which forms part of the 121.7 km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor being developed by the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC)," the ministry said in a release.
"The construction of this 10 km link involved an investment of Rs 800 crore, with HRIDC contributing Rs 684 crore and the remaining amount funded by Maruti Suzuki. The loading capacity of this Gati Shakti Cargo terminal is one of the highest in India i.e. 4.5 lakh automobiles per annum." While addressing a gathering, Vaishnaw said that in the last two and a half years, a focused campaign has been launched to increase the number of general coaches, and more than 1,200 such coaches were added in just the past year.
Over 100 MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) trains will now be augmented by increasing their composition from 8 to 12 coaches to 16 to 20 coaches to benefit short-distance commuters, he added.
"A new factory has been set up at Kazipet, Andhra Pradesh, for the manufacturing of over 100 MEMU trains," the railways minister said.
Referring to the successful rollout of Namo Bharat trains, he said that 50 new Namo Bharat trains will be produced to cater to the growing passenger demand.
"In the financial year 2023&ndash;24, Indian Railways transported approximately 720 crore passengers and 1,617 million tonnes of freight. This performance helped Indian Railways achieve the second-highest freight volume globally, marking 2023&ndash;24 as a historic year," Vaishnaw said.
Talking about a recent reform in Tatkal ticket booking to be implemented from July 1, 2025, Vaishnaw said that now only Aadhaar-authenticated and KYC-verified users will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window, and this will help ensure tickets availability for genuine passengers.
He also spoke about an ongoing pilot project in the Bikaner Division, where passenger reservation charts are now being prepared 24 hours in advance, replacing the earlier norm of 4 hours before train departure.
On the rollout of the Amrit Bharat Trains, the minister stated, "Three Amrit Bharat trains are currently operational and have received overwhelming public response. In the coming days, six more Amrit Bharat trains will be launched, and the production of 50 more trains is underway, and more batches will follow".
Vaishnaw also mentioned that the Railway Coach Factory, Sonipat, is undergoing modernisation.
"The upgraded facility will soon be ready for inauguration and will play a key role in enhancing our coach production capacity," he said.

The first 16-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has successfully completed rigorous trials conducted by the Research Designs &amp; Standards Organisation (RDSO) on January 15, 2025, covering a 540-kilometer distance on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, according to an official press release.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, manufactured India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on December 17, 2024. Within a fortnight, the train was brought to Kota division, where it underwent short-distance trials covering 30 to 40 kilometers over three consecutive days in early January.&nbsp;
During these tests, the train comfortably reached speeds of 180 km/h, demonstrating its capability for high-speed overnight journeys, the statement read.

<h3>Scaling Up Production: The Road Ahead</h3>
Following the successful trials, Indian Railways has planned the production of nine more Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Sets between April and December 2025 to enhance efficiency and convenience for long-haul travelers.
To support this large-scale rollout, the railways has placed a major order for propulsion electrics for 50 rakes of 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Sets on December 17, 2024.
The order has been awarded to two leading Indian manufacturers, who will deliver the systems within a two-year timeframe.
The release further said that the full-scale production of the 24-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Sets is scheduled to begin in 2026-27, further boosting India's self-reliance in railway technology and setting new standards in rail travel.

These Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed with modern amenities to enhance passenger experience, including automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard WiFi, and an aircraft-like design.&nbsp;
Indian passengers are already enjoying world-class travel on 136 Vande Bharat trains, which operate across the country for medium and short distances, offering reclining seats and a superior travel experience.&nbsp;
The sleeper variant will further improve long-distance travel by providing a quieter, smoother, and more luxurious journey, equipped with advanced safety features, said railways.
The train has 16 coaches, divided into AC 1st Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier, with a total capacity of 1,128 passengers. Built under the Make in India initiative, it features crash buffers, deformation tubes, a fire barrier wall, cushioned berths, and automatic doors, ensuring safety and comfort.

"Mark Zuckerberg's observation that many incumbent parties were not re-elected in the 2024 elections holds true for several countries, BUT not India. The apology comes a day after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who heads the Parliamentary standing committee on Communication and Information Technology, said Meta would be summoned on grounds of spreading misinformation for Zuckerberg's remark.
"Misinformation on a democratic country maligns its image. The organisation would have to apologise to the Parliament and the people here for this mistake," Dubey said in a post on X.
In a podcast on January 10, the 40-year-old Facebook co-founder said the Covid pandemic had led to an erosion of trust in incumbent governments the world over. He incorrectly cited India's example in this connection. "2024 was a very big election year around the world and all these countries, India, had elections. The incumbents basically lost every single one. There is some sort of a global phenomenon - whether it was because of inflation or the economic policies to deal with Covid or just how the governments dealt with Covid. It seems to have had this effect that's global," he said.
Soon after, Union Minister Vaishnaw fact-checked the remark and said the people of India had reaffirmed their trust in the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in last year's Lok Sabha election.
"As the world's largest democracy, India conducted the 2024 elections with over 640 million voters. People of India reaffirmed their trust in NDA led by PM @narendramodi Ji's leadership. Mr. Zuckerberg's claim that most incumbent governments, including India in 2024 elections, lost post-COVID is factually incorrect," Vaishnaw, who handles portfolios of Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology in the Modi 3.0 government, said in a post on X.
"From free food for 800 million, 2.2 billion free vaccines, and aid to nations worldwide during COVID, to leading India as the fastest-growing major economy, PM Modi's decisive 3rd-term victory is a testament to good governance and public trust. Meta, it's disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Let's uphold facts and credibility," he added.

"The trails will continue until this month's end before this world-class long-distance travel is made available to the rail commuters across the nation," it said in a press statement.

The ministry also highlighted a recent video shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X.
"The video shows a nearly full-to-brim glass of water adjacent to a mobile on a plain surface inside a Vande Bharat sleeper train. The water level remaining static can be seen in the video as the moving train achieves near constant peak speed of 180 km per hour exhibiting the element of comfort in the high-speed rail travel," the ministry said.
"The post came after 3 days of successful trials, which concluded on 2nd January, in which a Vande Bharat sleeper train in its loaded condition touched the peak speed," it added.
According to the ministry, on January 2, during a 30-km run between Kota and Laban in Bundi district of Rajasthan, the train reached a peak speed of 180 km per hour.

"A day earlier, i.e. on the first day of 2025, in a 40 km long trial run between Rohal Khurd to Kota, Vande Bharat sleeper train touched the peak of 180 km per hour, the press note said.
"On the same day, peaks of 170 km/hr &amp; 160km/hr were achieved on Kota-Nagda &amp; Rohal Khurd-Chau Mahla sections. These trials will continue for the month of January under the supervision of RDSO, Lucknow," it added.
Once these trials are over, the train will be evaluated by the Railway Safety Commissioner at the maximum speed and only after passing the final stage, it will be officially certified and handed over to Indian Railways for induction and regular services.
The ministry stated that Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed with features like automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard WiFi and an aircraft-like design.
"With these successful trials, rail commuters can hope for a world-class travel experience in long-distance travel like Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai and many other routes also," the ministry said.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill to amend Railway laws with the government insisting that it will not lead to the national carrier's privatisation.
Responding to a debate on the Railway Amendment bill, Railway Minister Ashiwni Vaishnaw said in the Lower House that a fake narrative was set afloat that the amendment would privatise railways.
"Their (opposition) fake narrative on Constitution has failed... now this will also fall flat," he asserted.

&nbsp;"A few members have said the Bill will lead to privatisation of railways, an attempt has been made to set a fake narrative. I want to appeal to them with all sincerity not to do this, their one fake narrative about the Constitution has already failed," Vaishnaw said.
The Railways (Amendment) Bill 2024 which seeks to enhance the functioning and independence of the Railway Board was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the previous Parliament session.

"Google and start-up company, both have met with us. We have had very constructive discussions and finally, Google has agreed to list all the Apps as on the status which was there on Friday morning (1st March), that status will be restored. Google has been supporting our technology development journey and we believe that in the coming months, both start-up company and Google will come to a long-term resolution", said Ashwini Vaishnaw.

On Friday last week, Google pulled more than a dozen apps from its Play Store due to non-compliance by over 10 companies to its billing rules. Startups that have developed these apps have been engaged in a tussle with Google over the past three years.&nbsp;

Earlier, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that Google's actions can not be permitted. The Internet and Mobile Association of India has also expressed concerns over Google's action and said it considers such harsh measures as unfair and disproportionate, at a time when a legal process is ongoing.
&ldquo;The association is also of the view that such measures are discriminatory in reference to the practice followed by Google in other jurisdictions, where it has offered preferential terms to app developers in deference to ongoing legal proceedings or legislative developments,&rdquo; it said.
Naukri, 99acres, and Shaadi.com were among the few apps back on the Google Play Store on Saturday. As per reports they complied with the tech giant&rsquo;s norms even as the government made it clear that delisting of Indian apps cannot be permitted

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the Indian government has taken strong exception to Google delisting some Indian apps from its Play Store.
Vaishnaw told PTI news agency that Google's action should not be permitted and that the tech company and the startups concerned have been called for a meeting next week to resolve the dispute.
Many tech entrepreneurs had voiced concerns after the US tech giant removed 10 apps for not paying platform fees. &nbsp;
&nbsp;&ldquo;India is very clear, our policy is very clear&hellip;our startups will get the protection that they need.&rdquo; The minister said the government will be meeting Google and app developers who have been delisted, next week, to resolve the dispute.
&ldquo;I have already called Google&hellip;I have already called the app developers who have been delisted, we will be meeting them next week. This cannot be permitted..This kind of delisting cannot be permitted,&rdquo; Vaishnaw said.
Stating that India has built a strong startup ecosystem of over one lakh startups, and more than 100 unicorns from scratch in a matter of 10 years, the minister said the energy of youth and entrepreneurs must be channelised fully and &ldquo;cannot be left to the policies of any big tech.&rdquo; &ldquo;I will be telling Google&hellip;Our entrepreneurial energy&hellip;startups, look at the whole startup India programme, 10 years back we had practically nothing and today we have more than 1,00,000 startups, more than 100 unicorns&hellip;this is something&hellip;the energy of our youth, the energy of our entrepreneurs, energy of our talented people that has to be channelised fully well, it cannot be left to the policies of any big tech,&rdquo; Vaishnaw said.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was handed a business plan mid-flight by an ambitious entrepreneur, who received a response minutes after the plane landed.

A hurriedly scribbled business proposal on a paper napkin presented to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on a flight was all it took for an entrepreneur dealing in solid waste management to land a meeting with top railway officials, with the call coming within six minutes of touching down in Kolkata.
Akshay Satnaliwala, who was on the same Delhi-Kolkata flight as Vaishnaw, hastily wrote a proposal on a paper napkin, as it was the only piece of paper he could find at the time.
The young Kolkata-based entrepreneur, director of a solid waste management company, managed to hand over the handwritten note to Vaishnaw during the midnight flight on February 2.
To his surprise, he received a call from the Eastern Railway (ER) general manager's office within six minutes of landing, and a meeting was scheduled on February 6.
"Sir, if you allow, I would like to present how railways can be an integral part of the supply chain for AFR (alternative fuel and raw material) to cement plants, and also contribute to our Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan," Satnaliwala had said in the hand-written note.
In his appeal to the minister, he claimed that his company was the first in the country to send plastic waste by a railway rake in July 2022, when 3,500 metric ton was sent in a single consignment from the Chitpur railway siding in Kolkata to a cement plant in Odisha's Rajgangpur.
Eastern Railway General Manager Milind K Deouskar and other senior officers met Satnaliwala and discussed the prospects suggested by his firm, according to an official statement.
Eastern Railway spokesperson Kausik Mitra said Satnaliwala "explained the schematic flow of solid waste to various industries with prospective buyers in different parts of the country, such as Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Rajgangpur in Odisha, and other clusters through the railways".
In response, the officers offered him flexible terms for carrying solid and other waste through the railways, a cheaper mode of transportation, Mitra said.
"Such bulk quantity transport of solid and plastic waste through the railways will not only benefit the company but also help in recycling waste, thereby reducing pollution," he said.
The railways has asked Satnaliwala to submit a proposal for a station-to-station rate facility with a commitment to traffic movement, Mitra said.
The entrepreneur expressed his gratitude to the minister and the Eastern Railway for responding to his appeal.
"I am happy that the railway ministry has acknowledged my proposal and given me a chance to present it in the presence of all senior officials of Eastern Railway," Satnaliwala said.

The Railway Board has recommended a CBI probe into the Balasore train accident that has so far claimed 275 lives.
&ldquo;We have recommended a CBI probe into the triple train accident that claimed 275 lives and left over 1,000 injured,&rdquo; Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening.
The Centre along with the support of the state government are giving all support to the injured patients who are admitted to various hospitals in Balasore, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
&ldquo;Patients are being given all facilities in hospitals. There are teams of doctors who are taking care of patients round-the-clock,&rdquo; Vaishnaw said.
He said the government was trying to get in touch with the families of the deceased.
&ldquo;We are trying to get in touch with families of the dead,&rdquo; the Minister added.
The Odisha government on Sunday revised the triple train accident&rsquo;s death toll to 275 from 288, and put the number of injuries at 1,175.
Chief Secretary P K Jena said some bodies were counted twice. "After detailed verification and a report by Balasore District Collector, the final toll has been fixed at 275," he said.
Three trains&mdash; Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah super fast and a goods train &mdash; were involved in the pile-up on Friday, now being described as one of India&rsquo;s worst train accidents.
The Coromandel Express rammed into a stationary goods train and many of its carriages overturned including some onto another train - the Bengaluru-Howrah superfast express which was also passing by at the same time on Friday.
