Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sharply criticised the Gujarat government on Wednesday, calling its actions a &ldquo;blatant display of dictatorship&rdquo; after he was stopped from meeting farmers and farmer leaders lodged in Rajkot jail.
At a press conference in Rajkot, Kejriwal said he had planned to visit the jail to meet those imprisoned but was deliberately prevented from doing so. &ldquo;What could be more dictatorial than this? Am I a terrorist?&rdquo; he asked, emphasising that those detained were farmers and not criminals.&nbsp;
Kejriwal said he had sought permission the previous day but was informed in the morning that he was &ldquo;not allowed to meet&rdquo; the jailed farmers. Drawing a historical comparison, he added, &ldquo;When the British jailed Bhagat Singh, even then his colleagues were allowed to meet him. Did our freedom fighters fight for independence only to face a government more cruel and tyrannical than the British?&rdquo;
He pointed out that 54 lakh farming families in Gujarat rely on agriculture but continue to face acute hardship &mdash; from shortages of seeds and long queues for fertiliser to an absence of fair crop prices.&nbsp;
According to Kejriwal, farmers strike deals at ₹1500 but are forced to settle for ₹1200. He said that when farmers united against this price-cutting practice, the state government resorted to a brutal lathi-charge and arrested 88 peaceful protesters.
Kejriwal alleged that police deliberately skipped court hearings on bail dates &ldquo;to break the farmers&rsquo; morale.&rdquo; Of the 88 arrested, 42 have secured bail. He said he met families of those jailed and recently released, adding, &ldquo;Their stories would move anyone to tears.&rdquo; He also claimed that farmers in custody were denied water for 24 hours, given no food, and beaten. &ldquo;What does the BJP want? Fear God,&rdquo; he said, while saluting the families who met him despite &ldquo;tremendous pressure&rdquo; not to do so. &ldquo;I want to say only this &mdash; one day, the people of Gujarat will rise against government.&rdquo;
Kejriwal widened his criticism to the education sector, alleging that farmers often take loans to send their children to cities like Ahmedabad and Surat for coaching, only to experience exam paper leaks just before tests. &ldquo;We have seen children crying helplessly,&rdquo; he said, claiming &ldquo;their own people&rdquo; are behind the leaks. He further alleged that drugs are being openly circulated across Gujarat to ensure young people do not raise their voice. &ldquo;Today, drugs are available in every lane. Every family in Gujarat is being devastated by this government. But I believe these are their final days, because people across Gujarat are rising,&rdquo; he said.
He also said he learned that farms belonging to arrested farmers and their children were ploughed collectively by villagers. Making a sharp remark on governance, he added, &ldquo;Two things are openly sold in Gujarat today &mdash; drugs, and potholes on the roads. This is what they have reduced Gujarat to after 30 years. Now it&rsquo;s time to end this.&rdquo;
Kejriwal claimed that for years people felt they had no alternative because the Congress and BJP were &ldquo;hand in glove.&rdquo; &ldquo;Congress never wanted BJP to lose power in Gujarat. But now people have an option, and Aam Aadmi Party is being discussed in every household,&rdquo; he said. He added that people look to leaders like Gopal Italia, Isudan Gadhvi, Raju Karpara, Pravin Ram, Chaitar Vasava and Manoj Sorathiya with hope. &ldquo;Tell me one BJP leader who gives hope to the people of Gujarat,&rdquo; he challenged. &ldquo;When our leaders speak, people listen. Name one leader from BJP or Congress whom people believe can fix Gujarat.&rdquo;
Addressing the people directly, Kejriwal said, &ldquo;You will have to save Gujarat. You will have to overcome fear and stand up.&rdquo; He alleged that FIRs are being used as tools of intimidation. &ldquo;I myself spent six months in jail. They may jail you too, but I take responsibility &mdash; for every false FIR filed against anyone, we will fight. And two years from now when the government changes, within 24 hours all false FIRs will be withdrawn. After that, the ministers who oppressed the people of Gujarat will be sent to jail.&rdquo;
He questioned the government over the massive drug seizures at Mundra Port, asking who the real culprits were and what happened to shipments that were never intercepted. According to Kejriwal, drugs are easily accessible across the state, pushing youth into darkness, and such a situation would not be possible without official collusion.
Referring to AAP&rsquo;s governance in Punjab, he said that when the party took power, drugs were widespread across towns and villages. &ldquo;Today, under our government, bulldozers are demolishing the homes of drug peddlers, and over 25,000 drug dealers have been arrested.&rdquo; He said AAP took such action because &ldquo;its intentions are honest,&rdquo; questioning why similar steps were not taken in Gujarat. Kejriwal also alleged that those involved in selling spurious liquor are not being caught &ldquo;because they are hand-in-glove with the ruling system.&rdquo;

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Gujarat today, at a time when AAP leaders and workers have reported repeated attacks and farmers in several parts of the state continue to face severe difficulties.
Kejriwal landed at Rajkot Airport this evening, where he was warmly received by AAP MLA Hemant Khava, State Co-Incharges Durgesh Pathak and Gulabsinh Yadav, State Chief Spokesperson Dr. Karan Barot, District President Tejas Gajipara, and a large number of party workers.
Upon arrival, Kejriwal expressed serious concern over Gujarat&rsquo;s deteriorating situation, stating that conditions in the state are worsening day by day. He pointed out that the government itself has admitted it cannot manage the state, citing the recent Cabinet reshuffle as evidence. He said, &ldquo;The BJP government openly admitted its ministers were corrupt, forcing them to change the Cabinet.&rdquo;
Kejriwal highlighted the plight of farmers, stating that sons of farmers fighting for their rightful demands were jailed by the government. While some have been released, several remain behind bars. Reaffirming his support for the farming community, he said he will meet farmer families tomorrow.
He also raised concerns about the rampant sale of spurious liquor across Gujarat, which has resulted in the deaths of young people. &ldquo;Despite the alarming rise in the drug trade, the government chooses to remain inactive while farmers are sent to jail,&rdquo; he said. Kejriwal added that when AAP points out the BJP&rsquo;s failures, the Congress party gets affected, citing an incident where a Congress worker allegedly hurled a shoe at Gopal Italia.
Kejriwal further accused the BJP and Congress of effectively running a joint government in Gujarat for the past 30 years. He alleged that Mundra Port has become a major drug route for the entire nation, resulting in a significant quantity of drugs remaining within Gujarat. He warned that drug consumption, addiction, and unemployment are all increasing, threatening the future of the state&rsquo;s youth.
Concluding his remarks, Kejriwal stated, &ldquo;After ruling for three decades, the BJP government has become extremely arrogant, and therefore, it must be removed.&rdquo;

The BJP accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of enjoying a &ldquo;7-star sheesh mahal&rdquo; in Punjab under CM Bhagwant Mann&rsquo;s quota despite holding no post in the state government.

The BJP on Friday alleged that former Delhi chief minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is being provided a &ldquo;sheesh mahal with a 7-star facility&rdquo; in Punjab under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann&rsquo;s quota even though he is neither an elected MLA nor part of the state government.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also alleged that even the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, who had lost elections in Delhi, have been &ldquo;placed&rdquo; in various boards and commissions in Punjab, and demanded an explanation from Kejriwal and his party.
There was no immediate response from the AAP or the Punjab government to the BJP&rsquo;s charge.
&ldquo;People of Delhi removed Kejriwal from his &lsquo;sheesh mahal&rsquo; in New Delhi but the sheesh mahal mindset has not gone. And a sheesh mahal part 2 is being done in Punjab through the tax payers money, under the Punjab chief minister&rsquo;s quota because Kejriwal is the super CM of Punjab,&rdquo; Poonawalla charged in a video message.
&ldquo;He may not be an elected MLA, he may not be in the government, but a 7-star facility is being done only for him at the cost of the Punjabi tax payers,&rdquo; he added.
The BJP spokesperson alleged that the AAP, ruling Punjab, has not fulfilled the promises it made to the people of the state.
&ldquo;They have not given the money they promised to women of Punjab but provided a 100-car convoy for Arvind Kejriwal&rsquo;s VVIP security, then a 7 star &lsquo;alishaan&rsquo; (luxurious) mansion for him,&rdquo; he charged.
&ldquo;And this isn&rsquo;t the only thing. Even AAP leaders, who had lost elections in Delhi, have been placed in the boards and commissions in Punjab. So, the Punjabi tax payers are being used and utilised to pay for the Aam Aadmi Party leaders of Delhi. This is their mindset,&rdquo; the BJP spokesperson added.

After the Centre allotted Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal a Type-VII bungalow in the capital, the party confirmed that the former Delhi chief minister will stay at the 95, Lodhi Estate accommodation, which was allocated to him after the "Delhi High Court rapped the Centre on the issue".
"Kejriwal has been allotted an official bungalow by the Centre after it was scolded by the Delhi High Court. He was entitled to a bungalow since he is the convener of a national party," AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda told PTI Videos.
Last month, the Delhi High Court pulled up the Centre for delaying its decision in allotting a residential accommodation to Kejriwal in the national capital.
Kejriwal lived at an accommodation on 6, Flag Staff Road in Civil Lines while he was the chief minister.
The BJP had made it a big election issue in Delhi, calling the house "Sheesh Mahal", and vowing that its chief minister will not stay there.
After resigning as chief minister, Kejriwal shifted to a government bungalow allotted to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
In 2022, Delhi government's vigilance department initiated an inquiry, on the direction of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, into allegations of &ldquo;irregularities and cost escalation" in the renovation of the Civil Lines bungalow by the PWD.
Currently, the CBI is probing the matter on the complaint of then Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, which was filed with Saxena in December 2024.

The Centre on Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that it will allot an appropriate accommodation to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal within ten days.
The submissions were made before Justice Sachin Datta, who said the issues related to allotment of accommodation have to be resolved.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking directions to the Centre to allot a bungalow to the former Delhi chief minister here.
"He will be allotted the appropriate accommodation within 10 days from today. You may record my statement," Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, told the court.
The SG's submission came in response to the court's observation that the Lieutenant General of Delhi had recently stated that the issue will be resolved soon.
Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra, appearing for the AAP, then submitted that the accommodation given cannot be a downgrade from the accommodation that had been given to Kejriwal in the past.
"It has been a Type 7 or 8. They cannot downgrade me to a Type 5. I'm not favoured. I'm not Bahujan Samaj Party," he said.
To this, the court said, "If you are not happy, don't take it. Solution lies in you having a conversation with the SG." The SG, meanwhile, remarked, "Aam Aadmi never fights for type 8." Mehra responded by saying, "All this sloganeering was appropriate at elections, this is court." Then judge then intervened by saying that he has recorded the submissions and will pronounce the order later.
The judge added that such issues related to allotment have to be resolved, not just for politicians, but others as well.
"The practice of Ministry has to be noted. Not just this time for politician but to non-politician as well. It is an issue that has to be resolved," he said.
The court further said the AAP and Kejriwal will have liberty to approach the government if he is not satisfied with the accommodation allotted.
The petition said Kejriwal vacated his official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road on October 4, 2024 after stepping down as chief minister.
Since then, he has been staying at the official residence of another party member near Mandi House, it added.

Aam Aadmi Party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday demanded that India impose higher tariffs on US imports and asserted that the whole country will support this decision.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP-led Central government has decided to waive off 11 per cent duty on cotton imported from the US, which could impact the business of local farmers in Delhi. &nbsp;
There was no immediate reaction from the Central government. &nbsp;Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision could prove detrimental to India's farmers, the AAP chief demanded that the government impose higher tariffs on US imports. &nbsp;
"Other countries did not bow down, they imposed higher tariffs. We should also impose higher tariffs. If the US is imposing 50 per cent tariffs, we should double it to 100 per cent. The whole country will support this decision. No country can afford to offend India. We are a nation of 140 crore people," he said. &nbsp;
The government on Thursday extended duty-free import of cotton by three more months till December 31 to support textile exporters facing steep 50 per cent tariffs in the US.
Earlier, on August 18, the Ministry of Finance had allowed duty exemption on cotton imports from August 19 till September 30.
"India used to impose 11 per cent duty on cotton imported from America. This meant that the American cotton was costly than homegrown cotton. But the Modi government has decided to waive off this duty from August 19 till September 30. This means that textile industries will get cheaper cotton. When our cotton will come in the market for sale in October, there would be few takers," Kejriwal claimed. &nbsp;
The farmers of Telangana, Punjab, Vidarbha and Gujarat will be highly impacted by this decision, he said.
"We all know that US President Donald Trump has imposed 50 per cent tariffs. We should have increased the 11 per cent duty to 50 per cent and not waived it off completely," he added. &nbsp;
Kejriwal said his party wants the Centre to reimpose the 11 per cent duty on American cotton. &nbsp;
"On September 7, the AAP will hold a huge public meeting in Chotila, Gujarat over the issue. I urge all the political parties and farmers' organisations to raise this issue. The farmers in Chotila are going to be heavily impacted by this decision of the Central government," the AAP chief said.

Reacting to the incidents, Kejriwal took to X to say, "What's happening in Delhi? Yesterday, two schools received bomb threats, and today, another school and a college received threats. Children are scared, and parents are extremely worried. The BJP's four-engine governments have completely failed." Another AAP leader, Aatishi, alleged that law and order have completely collapsed in Delhi and rhetorically asked if student safety is of no importance for the BJP government.
"The constant bomb threats to schools and colleges in Delhi are extremely scary and worrying. Children are scared, parents are worried - BJP's four-engine governments have failed to even provide security. Does the safety of children have no importance to them? Law and order have completely collapsed," she said in a post on X.
The repeated threats have sparked concern among parents and students across the city.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal's assertion that he should get a Nobel Prize for governance is "laughable", Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said on Wednesday.
Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Sachdeva said he would get the award if there were categories for "incompetence" and "corruption".
The AAP hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying it should focus on governance in Delhi instead of name-calling.
"Virendra Sachdeva is in the government now. It is time to govern, not just talk. Opposition days are over -- now you have to deliver. Delhi is waiting for real work, not distractions or name-calling," Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a statement.
Speaking at the release of the Punjabi edition of a book, titled "Kejriwal Model", in Chandigarh on Tuesday, the AAP supremo elaborated on the governance model adopted by the previous government in Delhi, led by his party.
Referring to challenges faced by the AAP government in the national capital, Kejriwal said, "Despite being stopped from working, we performed. I should get a Nobel Prize for governance and administration for doing so much despite there being a lieutenant governor and various difficulties." Sachdeva took a dig at Kejriwal, saying he would have surely received a Nobel Prize if there were categories for "incompetence, anarchy and corruption".
Several scams, including the construction of the "sheesh mahal", took place during Keriwal's rule in Delhi, he alleged. The BJP had accused Kejriwal of spending crores of rupees to renovate and refurbish the chief minister's residence in Delhi, calling it the "sheesh mahal".
"Kejriwal demanding a Nobel Prize for himself is laughable. The people of Delhi are stunned to hear about his desire for a Nobel Prize," Sachdeva said.
Kejriwal, who served as the Delhi chief minister from 2015 till September 2024, said at the book release that his model can only run on honesty.
"If a government is corrupt, if its ministers are looting, this model will collapse," he said, adding that the AAP has proven this in Punjab as well.
"Previous governments had claimed that the treasury was empty. But we fixed schools and hospitals, and gave free electricity, because we curbed corruption and saved public money," the AAP national convenor said.
He criticised the BJP government in Delhi, alleging that after the AAP left office, services have "collapsed" in the national capital.
Sachdeva said the people of Delhi have not forgotten the "scams" related to panic buttons in public transport buses, pension for women, classroom construction and liquor, among others.&nbsp;

This development comes in the wake of his loss in the Delhi Assembly elections, including from his own New Delhi constituency, and amid ongoing legal challenges related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, for which he is currently out on bail.
At Rouse Avenue Court, a petition was brought forward requesting legal action against Mr. Kejriwal and two other AAP leaders, Gulab Singh and Nitika Sharma, for allegedly misusing public funds on large-scale hoardings.
The court has directed the Delhi Police to file the FIR, with a compliance report due by March 18. Although a lower court had dismissed the petition earlier, the case, which dates back to 2019, has now gained traction.
The allegations are centered around claims that Mr. Kejriwal, along with former AAP MLA Singh and Dwarka councilor Sharma, expended public resources on these hoardings. Throughout AAP's decade-long governance in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has consistently accused them of using public money for personal publicity. Last January, the Directorate of Information and Publicity demanded AAP reimburse Rs 163.62 crore, including interest, for misusing funds on political advertising.
The BJP has also argued that AAP prioritized publicity spending over actual project allocations. In one instance, they claimed Rs 80 crore was spent promoting the Business Blasters scheme, despite an allotment of only Rs 54 crore. Similarly, they alleged disproportionate publicity spends for the Desh Ke Mentor and Stubble Management schemes.
Additionally, the BJP criticized the substantial funds allocated for renovations at the Delhi chief minister&rsquo;s residence during Mr. Kejriwal&rsquo;s tenure, an expense derisively labeled "Sheeshmahal."
In defense, the AAP stated that renovations were essential for the 1942-built residence, following recommendations from the Public Works Department. However, this issue seemingly contributed to the party's electoral losses.

The BJP on Monday requested Lt Governor VK Saxena to cancel the merger of four properties with the "Sheesh Mahal" (6, Flagstaff Road) that was used by the party as a political weapon to target AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal over corruption issues during recent Assembly polls.&nbsp;
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that the bungalow was expanded by merging four government properties and he has written to the Lt Governor VK Saxena for cancelling the amalgamation of those properties.
He said that the new government to be formed by the party will take a call regarding future use of the bungalow and added "The next Chief Minister of Delhi will not stay in it."&nbsp;
The reconstructed bungalow was the official residence of Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi Chief Minister from 2015 till October 2024 when he vacated it after resigning from the post under fire from the BJP over corruption charges.
Newly elected BJP MLA from Rohini, Vijendra Gupta, who was Leader of Opposition in the 7th Delhi Assembly dissolved last week, said that the Chief Minister of BJP will not live in the bungalow as it was under investigation over alleged irregularities.&nbsp;
Gupta said that the land of the demerged properties and used the land for other official purposes like the construction of government quarters.&nbsp;
The BJP for more than two years, more so during the Assembly election campaign, hit hard at Kejriwal levelling allegations of corruption including irregularities in the reconstruction of the bungalow and lavish interiors, high-end domestic goods and fixtures there.&nbsp;
Kejriwal transformed the bungalow into "an ultra-luxurious 'Sheesh Mahal' by "illegally annexing" neighbouring government properties, Gupta wrote to the LG.&nbsp;
"The scope of these unauthorized alterations is particularly concerning. What was meant to be a standard official residence has been transformed into a lavish complex spanning more than 50,000 square meters," he charged in the letter.&nbsp;
He said that the merged properties included eight Type-V flats at 45 and 47 Rajpur Road, and the two government bungalows (8-A and 8-B Flag Staff Road) with the 6, Flagstaff road bungalow.&nbsp;
"I urgently request your intervention to restore these properties to their original independent status and return 6-lag Staff Road to its previous area of less than 10,000 square meters," he said.&nbsp;
Gupta also requested the LG to expedite the ongoing investigation into these alleged violations, saying swift action is crucial for ensuring accountability and restoring public trust in government institutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the people of Delhi for putting an end to the "lies and deception" politics of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by giving a clear mandate to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assembly elections.
He said that people have put an end to "short-cut" politics of Kejriwal and removed a "major obstacle" in the way of Delhi's development.

"Delhi's mandate also clarified that there is no place for shortcuts or lies and deception in politics. Janata ne short cut rajneeti ka short circuit kar diya (People have short-circuited the politics of shortcut)," PM Modi said while addressing a gathering at the party's headquarters after the resounding victory in assembly polls.
<h3>BJP's Return to Power</h3>

The PM slammed the AAP's politics of "protests, confrontation, and administrative uncertainty."

. Lashing out at AAP, he said, "The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth."
<h3>PM Modi on Anna Hazare</h3>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Anna Hazare must have got some relief from pain following AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly election. He added that Hazare had been "bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time."
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare had criticised AAP for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.
PM Modi said AAP was born out of the movement against corruption but became deeply involved in it.
"The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose Chief Minister and Ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty turned out to be corrupt. This was a big betrayal with Delhi," PM Modi said.

PM Modi further attacked AAP, stating that the liquor scam had defamed Delhi. "The scams in schools and hospitals troubled the poorest of the poor, and on top of that, their arrogance was so much that when the world was dealing with Corona, these people were building 'Sheesh Mahal'."
Earlier, Anna Hazare had said that AAP did not understand the importance of character in politics, which led to their downfall.

<h3>AAP's Corruption to Be Investigated</h3>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over allegations of corruption against its leaders, saying that all links of such charges will be probed and those who "looted" money will have to return it.

"These AAP-da people resorted to conspiracies every day to hide their scams. Now, the Delhi poll verdict has come. I am giving a guarantee that in the first session of the assembly, the CAG report will be tabled. Every link of corruption will be probed, and whoever has looted will have to return it," he said.
Targeting AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, PM Modi said that those who gave certificates to others are now facing allegations of corruption.
The BJP has also been taking "Sheeshmahal" jibes at Kejriwal. In his speech, PM Modi thanked the people of Delhi for their support and reiterated their relief at making the national capital "AAP-da free."
<h3>BJP's Future Commitments</h3>
Meanwhile, BJP leader Parvesh Verma said that the Bharatiya Janata Party will work to fulfill its commitments to the people of Delhi, with setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption under the Aam Aadmi Party government among its top priorities.

"Our priority will be to give Rs 2500 to women. We had talked of creating an SIT to investigate corruption, Yamuna riverfront development, reducing pollution, and tackling traffic congestion. We will build a capital that everyone will be proud of," he said.
<h3>NDA's "Vikas ki Guarantee"</h3>
As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Delhi assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was synonymous with 'Vikas ki Guarantee' (guarantee for development) and good governance.

"NDA means 'Vikas ki guarantee' and 'guarantee of good governance,'" PM Modi said while addressing the gathering at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters.
<h3>BJP's Governance Model</h3>
Citing examples of BJP's governance in states where the NDA remains in power, PM Modi pointed out the persistence of law and order problems in Uttar Pradesh before the BJP came to power, where women faced major challenges.

"At one point in time, the law and order problem remained in Uttar Pradesh. The major challenge was for women. Dimaagi bukhaar (encephalitis) wreaked havoc. However, we worked with determination to resolve it," PM Modi said.
He further emphasized the transformation under NDA rule in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, and Bihar, asserting that "good governance benefits the poor and the middle class. The poor living in jhuggis and the middle class provided immense support to the BJP."
