Expressing gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron for hosting the summit and inviting him to co-chair, PM Modi pointed out the rapid advancements in AI, stating, "AI is already reshaping our polity, our economy, our security, and even our society. The government is planning to use Artificial Intelligence to identify 'mule' accounts where cyber fraudsters park swindled funds, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said. Chairing a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs on the topic of 'Cyber Security and Cyber Crime' on Monday, Shah also said that for national security reasons, 805 apps and 3,266 website links have been blocked based on the recommendations of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), the government's cybercrime monitoring and detection wing. Additionally, he said, 399 banks and financial intermediaries have come on board, over six lakh suspicious data points have been shared, more than 19 lakh mule accounts have been caught, and suspicious transactions worth Rs 2,038 crore have been prevented. He said a total of 1,43,000 FIRs have been registered on the I4C portal which has been used by more than 19 crore people. In light of financial cyber fraud, the '1930' helpline provides a one-point solution offering various services, such as blocking cards, Shah said. "Until we consider controlling cyber fraud through software, services, and users, it will be impossible to resolve the issues of cyberspace," he said. In 2024, 48 per cent of global digital transactions took place in India, and in terms of the startup ecosystem, India has become the third-largest country in the world, Shah said. In 2023, he said, the contribution of the digital economy to the gross domestic product (GDP) was around Rs 32 lakh crore, which is 12 per cent, while nearly 15 million jobs were created in this period. Shah also said that today India has become the third-largest country in the world in terms of digital landscape, and the digital economy contributes 20 per cent to the total economy of the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs' goal is to ensure zero cybercrime case, he said.

India's diverse economy and demographic advantage offer a unique position to benefit from the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), according to the Economic Survey for 2024-25 tabled in Parliament on Friday.&nbsp;
However, realizing these advantages requires significant investments in education and workforce development, along with the creation of institutions that can provide necessary support for adapting to technological changes.&nbsp;
The Economic Survey, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, stated, "These mechanisms can help workers adapt to changing demands while providing essential safety nets."
Despite AI's significant potential, the technology is still in a developmental phase and faces several challenges. While its growth is undeniable, AI has not yet reached the level of widespread adoption seen with technologies like personal computers and the internet.&nbsp;
The Economic Survey, prepared under Chief Economic Adviser Anantha Nageswaran&rsquo;s leadership, stressed the importance of policymakers considering the evolving nature of AI and its effects on labor markets.&nbsp;
"Historical parallels with earlier technological revolutions reveal the critical role of inclusive institutions in managing disruption and ensuring equitable outcomes," the report said.
The survey also highlighted several barriers to AI's large-scale implementation, such as concerns over reliability, infrastructure deficits, and inefficiencies. As AI&rsquo;s capabilities grow, so do concerns about its impact on labor markets, particularly in light of recent developments.&nbsp;
The Economic Survey quoted OpenAI&rsquo;s founder, who predicted the arrival of "AI workers" by the end of 2025. As AI systems become increasingly advanced, they are expected to outperform humans in decision-making roles across sectors like healthcare, criminal justice, business, and finance, which presents both opportunities and challenges.
The Economic Survey emphasized the need for a responsible and balanced approach to AI adoption, particularly in India, where the scale of employment means the impacts will be more pronounced. The chapter on AI also noted a significant shift in public perceptions of the technology, calling for its development to align with societal goals.&nbsp;
The report noted the rise of leading AI companies, including Google (Gemini), Microsoft (Co-Pilot), Meta (MetaAI with Llama), and others, and pointed to the growing global interest in AI. Between 2021 and 2022, AI patents granted worldwide rose by 62.7%, totaling over 62,000 patents, and private investment in generative AI surged from USD 3 billion in 2022 to USD 25.2 billion in 2023.
Corporate investments in AI between 2021 and 2023 reached USD 761 billion globally, with more companies referencing AI in their earnings calls, and CEOs anticipating that AI adoption will reduce labor requirements in various industries.&nbsp;
The Economic Survey's assessment underscores the need for India to strategically navigate the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, ensuring its benefits while mitigating potential disruptions to the workforce. Tech titan Elon Musk cast doubt Wednesday on a $500 billion AI project announced by US President Donald Trump, saying the money promised for the investment actually wasn't there.
The comments marked a rare instance of a split between the world's richest man and Trump, with Musk playing a key role in the newly installed administration after spending $270 million on the election campaign.
In his first full day in the White House, Trump on Tuesday announced a major investment to build infrastructure for artificial intelligence led by Japanese giant SoftBank and ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.
Trump said the venture, called Stargate, "will invest $500 billion, at least, in AI infrastructure in the United States."
But in a post on his social media platform X, Musk said the main investors "don't actually have the money."
"SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority," Musk added in a subsequent post.
<h3> - 'Wrong' -</h3>
Musk's swipe could be particularly targeted at OpenAI, the world's leading AI startup that Musk helped found before leaving in 2018.
The Tesla boss and OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, who was present at the White House on Tuesday, have been mired in a serious feud with Musk opening repeated lawsuits against the company behind ChatGPT.
"Wrong, as you surely know. Want to come visit the first site already under way?" Altman replied to Musk on X.
"This is great for the country. I realize what is great for the country isn't always what's optimal for your companies, but in your new role I hope you'll mostly put (country) first," he added.
OpenAI is one of the world's highest valued startups but loses money on the high costs of turning out its expensive technology.
According to the Wall Street Journal, cloud giant Oracle, which is also involved, has about $11 billion in cash and securities. SoftBank has roughly $30 billion of cash on hand.
"The American people should take President Trump and those CEOs words for it. These investments are coming to our great country and American jobs are coming along with them," Trump's spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told Fox News.
The Stargate project is committed to invest an initial $100 billion in the project, and up to $500 billion over the next four years.
Abu Dhabi's AI-focused state fund MGX and Oracle are also providing funding for the project, while SoftBank-owned Arm, Microsoft and Nvidia will be technology partners.
According to the companies, the project is initially building a data center operation in Texas, where construction is already underway.
Ahead of taking office, Trump this month unveiled a $20 billion Emirati investment in US data centers, as well as a previous investment pledge from SoftBank.
<h3> - 'Immediately' -</h3>
SoftBank, headed by flamboyant Japanese tycoon Masayoshi Son -- who announced Stargate on Tuesday with Trump, Altman and Oracle boss Larry Ellison -- declined to comment.
In its statement on Tuesday the Japanese investment group said it would "begin deploying $100 billion immediately" for the project.
The firm's shares were up around six percent on Thursday, having added more than 10 percent on Wednesday.
Technology news outlet Information said that SoftBank and OpenAI each plan to commit $19 billion of capital to Stargate, Bloomberg News reported.
The two companies would then both own 40 percent of it, the Information said, citing comments by Altman to colleagues.
It added that Oracle and MGX would contribute about $7 billion apiece, with the rest of the money coming from limited partners and debt financing.
Son, 67, founded SoftBank in his 20s. He made spectacularly successful early bets on Yahoo! and Alibaba but also some disastrous investments such as in WeWork.
In Trump's first term the rags-to-riches investor promised SoftBank would invest $50 billion in the United States and create 50,000 jobs.
Appearing alongside the then US president-elect in December, Son said he would now "double down" with $100 billion and generate employment for 100,000 Americans.

As per the report, employees dependence on Artificial Intelligence has increased to maintain the rapid pace and volume of work. While leaders acknowledge AI's significance to business, many feel their organisations lack a clear strategy to utilise AI effectively for tangible results.
The survey revealed that 90% of AI users stated it saved them time, 85% focused on critical tasks, 84% felt more creative, and 83% enjoyed their work more after using AI. While 79% of company leaders agree that AI adoption is essential for competitiveness, 59% expressed concerns about quantifying its productivity gains.
The report also revealed that 45% of employees worry about AI replacing their jobs, while 46% are considering quitting jobs for better opportunities. As per LinkedIn, in US there has been a 14% increase in job applications per role since last fall while 85% of professionals contemplating a job change this year.
Interestingly, 66% of employers and company leaders revealed that they wouldn't hire someone lacking AI skills, with 71% preferring less experienced candidates with AI skills over more experienced ones without them. In conclusion, the report mentioned that AI is aiding people to be more creative and productive, giving job seekers an advantage, and will eventually transform all aspects of work.

"Over the last 10-15 years, almost everybody who sits on a stage like this would tell you that it is vital that your children learn computer science, everybody should learn how to program. He goes on to say that it is imminent to upskill everyone as a computer is capable of doing what humans tell it to do.&nbsp;
"You now have a computer that will do what you tell it to do. It is vital that we upskill everyone and the upskilling process will be delightful and surprising", Huang added.
Last year too Jensen Huang had declared the end of the 'digital divide' while addressing a gathering at the Computex forum in Taiwan. While highlighting the emergence of a new computing era, he also emphasised the accessibility of programming in today's landscape.&nbsp;
"The programming barrier is incredibly low. We have closed the digital divide. Everyone is a programmer now - you just have to say something to the computer", Huang had said.

"The use cases of Generative AI are still being defined, which means that it has the potential to create more job opportunities in the future. Undoubtedly, the possibilities are just opening, and there is more to come," CP Gurnani told Reuters in an interview.

Gurnani went on to insist that skilled people will not be replaced even as many industry executives have discussed the potential loss of around a third of jobs due to the impact of AI.
"New jobs will also get created. The market will expand," he said. Infosys founder Narayana Murthy has also mentioned that coders losing jobs to Gen AI tools such as ChatGPT will "never happen."

According to the report 86% of the Job seekers believe that AI can enhance work productivity and manageability, 85% feel AI can aid job seekers in acquiring or improving their skills. Meanwhile 47% think that AI can enable jobseekers to focus on more complex, significant tasks and 43% believe it can Facilitate hiring based on skills and potential rather than just experience.
"This new survey brings encouraging news that jobseekers are not only aware of the promise of AI but are also excited about its potential. It demonstrates that job seekers are ready to embrace AI as a force for positive change in their careers. However, employers must work together to devise frameworks that allow the effective use of &nbsp;in order to facilitate technological advancement&rdquo;, said Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India.

Online professional networking platform LinkedIn in its new report has revealed that people skilled in Artificial Intelligence in India went up by 14x in June 2023 compared to January 2016. The report also mentioned that India is in the top 5 countries for AI talent.
The other top countries include Singapore, Finland, Ireland, and Canada. Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager at LinkedIn India, highlighted that the Indian workforce has recognised the importance of these skills.

Even in the workplace, 43% of the Indian workforce has witnessed increased AI usage. The report further mentioned that this increase in the AI usage has pushed 60% of all workers and 71% of the Gen Z professionals in India to recognise that acquiring AI skills could enhance career prospects.
The report also highlighted that 2 in 3 Indians say they will learn at least one digital skill in 2023, with AI and Machine Learning being among the top skills they want to learn.&nbsp;
&nbsp;Ashutosh Gupta has also said that employers should promote these skills in the workplace. &ldquo;To seize the moment, leaders must solidify their commitment to skills-first hiring because prioritising potential over pedigree can expand talent pools, boost upskilling, and build agility in their workforce,&rdquo; he said.
The report also mentioned that in 2022, the growth in hiring AI talent has outpaced overall hiring in Asia-Pacific region. 57% of executives are planning to enhance AI use in their organisations next year.

Artificial Intelligence will replace 5% full time technology (FTE) roles annually over the next 5 years, reported Economic Times. Outsourcing expert Pareekh Jain has told the publication that an estimate 5% FTE roles would annually mature to newer roles as they are replaced by AI tools.
&ldquo;It will not be a massive shift overnight. It is the support roles that do not require much decision-making capabilities where such changes will happen and they have already been in progress for years,&rdquo;Jain told Economic Times
The report quoted experts and said that while basic jobs are replaced with AI based automation solutions a higher level of jobs will be created that will involve less support roles and more decision-making and strategic roles.
The report also quoted Executives from leading Automation companies like ServiceNow and UiPath and said that they see this change in job profiles evolving over the years as enterprises themselves figure out their AI strategy.
Meanwhile, ServiceNow CTO Pat Casey has told Economic Times in July that whenever a ground-breaking new technology is introduced in any sector, it just leads to a lot more new work.&nbsp;

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched three reforms today. The first reform is the centralised identity equipment that is registered as the first leg. Any phone number can be uniquely identified through this. Once a mobile is lost, the user can register the number here. After this the phone will be blocked.
The second reform is Know your mobile. This enables the citizens to find out all the phone connection taken in a name across the country via an AI algorithm.
The third reform called as Astr uses AI to determine the number of connections a person has taken.&nbsp; Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also said that Astr has been developed and implemented on 87 crore mobile connections. As a result of these efforts, 40 lakh fraudulent connections have been detected. Out of these, 36 lakh connections have been disconnected.
Vaishnaw also said that the government is working with Whatsapp and other OTT platforms to de-register any number that is found out to be fraudulent.
