The final leg of the Amarnath yatra began on Monday as Mahant Deependra Giri took out the 'Chhari Mubarak', sacred mace of Lord Shiva, from its abode at Dashnami Akhara Temple for its journey to the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
Custodian of the Chhari Mubarak Mahant Giri, accompanied by several sadhus, took out the holy mace early in the morning from the Dashnami Akhara Temple at Budshah Chowk here, under tight security.
"The holy mace will reach Pahalgam tonight and stay there for two nights followed by a night halt at Chandwari on August 6, Sheshnag on August 7 and Panjtarni on August 8 before reaching the holy cave on August 9 which will mark the culmination of the yatra as per scriptures," he said.
The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on Saturday ended the month-long yatra, one week ahead of the scheduled end, saying the tracks leading to the holy cave needed repairs after being damaged due to heavy rains recently. More than 4.13 lakh pilgrims performed the annual yatra this year.
Giri expressed satisfaction at the large number of pilgrims coming for the yatra this year but urged the authorities to take steps to ensure that the pilgrims can perform the yatra right up to Shravan Purnima, which falls on Raksha Bandhan every year.&nbsp;

No fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to proceed to the Amarnath cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas, they said.
The pilgrims who had come from outside for the yatra are housed in the high-security Bhagwati Nagar base camp for their further journey to the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal after reviewing the weather situation.
Over 4 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the ice lingam of Lord Shiva at the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine since the 38-day pilgrimage commenced on July 3 from the Valley.
"The yatra to the cave shrine from Jammu remained suspended today. It has been done in view of the inclement weather besides precautionary measures. No fresh batch was allowed from Jammu towards Amarnath," Yatra information official said.
This is the second time the yatra has been suspended from Jammu. On July 17, the yatra was called off due to heavy rains at the twin base camps in Kashmir.
A total of 1,44,124 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the Valley since July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch.
Last year, over 5.10 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine, which houses a naturally formed ice lingam.
The pilgrimage is scheduled to end on August 9, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival.&nbsp;

Torrential rains in Kashmir had rendered the roads unsafe, following which the pilgrimage was suspended on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes on Wednesday.
"The yatra resumed this morning from the Baltal route," said an official, adding, "In view of maintenance works required to be carried out on the Pahalgam axis of Amarnath Yatra route following the recent rains, the yatra shall continue only through Baltal axis." The official said that no convoy movement would be allowed towards the Baltal and Nunwan base camps from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday.
So far, more than 3.93 lakh yatris have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine this year.
The annual yatra that began on July 3 will culminate of August 9.

Authorities on Wednesday announced that the Amarnath Yatra will be suspended from Jammu on Thursday due to the inclement weather conditions.
"In view of the inclement weather conditions on the yatra routes, as an abundant precaution, the ongoing Amarnath Yatra convoy will not move from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu on July 31," Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar said.
He further said that due to heavy rains in the yatra area, the movement of pilgrims from base camps in Kashmir has been affected. "Therefore, it has been decided that no convoy movement shall be allowed towards the base camps Baltal and Nunwan from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu on July 31," he said.
Kumar further said that pilgrims shall be kept informed about the situation in due course of time.
So far, more than 3.93 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine during the Amarnath Yatra, he said.

The Budha Amarnath pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch border district began on Monday with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagging off the first batch of more than 1,000 pilgrims from Jammu amid tight security arrangements.
Sinha expressed hope that a large number of pilgrims would visit the Budha Amarnath temple in Poonch to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva.
Amid ritualistic 'pooja', 'shankhnaad', and chanting of "Bum Bum Bhole", a convoy of more than 1,000 pilgrims, guarded by a multi-tier security escort, was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Sinha from Bhagwati Nagar here early Monday morning.
The 12-day-long pilgrimage, which was started by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in 2005 to the Himalayan temple of Budha Amarnath in the Poonch district, will conclude on August 7.
&ldquo;As you have seen, more than 1,000 pilgrims left for the Budha Amarnath Yatra from here today. Pilgrims from various corners of the country have arrived and are taking part in this sacred journey. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made excellent arrangements for the yatra. Security measures have been taken to ensure their safety. There has been an improvement in facilities for the Budha Amarnath Yatra,&rdquo; Sinha told reporters soon after flagging off the yatra.
The lieutenant governor extended his best wishes to all the pilgrims for a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey.
&ldquo;The sacred journey to the abode of Mahadev is an enlightening experience. I strongly believe this pilgrimage is the greatest alchemy and unveils secrets of life before the devotees," the lieutenant governor said.
Sinha appreciated the meticulous work done by Baba Amarnath and Budha Amarnath Yatri Nyas, tourism department, district administration, other stakeholders and organisations serving langar.
All the arrangements have been made for the annual pilgrimage and Budha Amarnath Ji Mela, the annual festival, he said.
He further said that more than 3.77 lakh devotees have completed the Amarnath Yatra so far, and expressed gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir administration for its "dedicated efforts" towards the convenience of devotees.
"I hope a large number of pilgrims from across the country will come to Budha Amarnath and pray to Lord Shiva for the prosperity of themselves, the nation, and Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
The Budha Amarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and located in the Rajpura village in Poonch&rsquo;s Mandi tehsil, is among the oldest shrines in the Jammu region, drawing large numbers of devotees during the yatra. The pilgrimage concludes with the arrival of the Charri Mubarak (holy mace) at the shrine from Dashnami Akhara, Poonch.
The Pulsata river, considered sacred, flows by the temple, where pilgrims traditionally bathe before entering. Thousands of devotees undertake the yatra annually to pay obeisance at this revered shrine of Lord Shiva.
Security has been heightened across the border districts of Jammu, Poonch, and Rajouri for the annual yatra, which is scheduled to conclude on August 7.
Ahead of the yatra, security forces and police conducted extensive combing operations along the yatra route and in the hinterlands of Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts, maintaining a high level of alertness, officials said.
Stringent security measures, including CCTV surveillance and area domination, have been placed in and around the temple in Mandi to ensure a peaceful and incident-free yatra, with all boarding and lodging arrangements overseen by the administration, officials said.

The first pilgrim convoy, carrying 1,250 pilgrims in 48 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The second convoy of 2,286 pilgrims in 84 vehicles undertook the yatra via the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district, they said.

According to the officials, on-the-spot registration for the pilgrimage has been closed due to the drop in footfall of pilgrims. The registration will now be done at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
More than 4 lakh people have registered online for the pilgrimage so far. Last year, over 5.10 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine.

A speeding truck hit a car carrying Amarnath pilgrims in J&amp;K&rsquo;s Udhampur district, injuring five devotees en route to Pahalgam.

Five pilgrims were injured when a truck hit a car in the Amarnath convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.
The accident occurred at 6:13 am when a speeding truck broke through a barricade at Battal Ballian area and hit the car ferrying eight pilgrims to the Pahalgam base camp, a security force officer said.
He said CISF personnel were deployed at the barricade when the truck, after hitting the car, jumped the divider and crashed into the wall of a house.
The car was part of the 16th batch of over 7,900 pilgrims, who left Jammu for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal early this morning.
Out of eight pilgrims, five were injured, he said, adding that the CRPF shifted them to hospital and their condition is stable. The other three sustained superficial injuries.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is going on. The vehicle has been seized.

The Yatra also resumed from the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir, officials said.
Escorted by CRPF and police personnel, the 16th batch of 7,908 pilgrims &mdash; including 5,957 men, 1,613 women, 26 children and 310 sadhus and sadhvis &mdash; left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here in 261 vehicles for the twin base camps between 3:30 am and 4:25 am, the officials said.
The first pilgrim convoy, carrying 2,879 pilgrims in 92 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district, followed by the second convoy of 5,029 pilgrims in 169 vehicles, who are undertaking the Yatra via the 48-km traditional Pahalgam route in Anantnag district, they said.
With this, a total of 1,09,461 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the Valley since July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch.
Amid chants of "Bum Bum Bhole" and "Har Har Mahadev," enthusiastic pilgrims left with religious fervour for Amarnath from Jammu, which transformed into a "city of divinity." There is a huge rush at the counters for on-the-spot registration, and over 4,000 fresh devotees arrived in Jammu from various parts of the country to get themselves registered. They were housed in different lodging centres.

The batches of pilgrims, including men, women and sadhus, left from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir's Anantnag, and Baltal base camp in Sonamarg area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal at the first light of the day, the officials said.
The chants of 'bum bum bole' filled the air as the batches were flagged off by senior officials from the respective base camps, they added.
On Wednesday, the first batch of 5,892 yatris was flagged off from the yatra base camp in Jammu's Bhagwati Nagar by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The pilgrims reached the Kashmir Valley in the afternoon and received a rousing welcome from the administration and locals.

Upon their arrival in the Kashmir valley, the pilgrims' convoys received a rousing welcome from the administration, and the locals, in Kulgam, Anantnag, and Srinagar districts, officials said.
The pilgrims reached the valley through the Navyug tunnel in Qazigund area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district, where they were welcomed by the South Kashmir Range deputy inspector general of police and Kulgam deputy commissioner.
BJP leader Ravindra Raina was also among those who welcomed the yatris with garlands, flower bouquets, sweets, and flower petals.
The convoys left separately for the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, from where they will leave for the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine early Thursday.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Jammu as over 5,800 devotees began their journey to the holy shrine under multi-tier security arrangements.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday flagged off the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims numbering over 5,880 amid multi-tier security cover, marking the beginning of this year's pilgrimage from Jammu.
The 38-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre high shrine will commence on July 3 from the Valley via the twin tracks -- the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
A batch of 5,892 pilgrims, including 1,115 women, 31 children and 16 transgenders left the base camp in the first batch at 4.30 am to join the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, officials said.
The yatra will conclude on August 9.
More than 3.31 lakh devotees have registered so far for this year's Amarnath Yatra, officials said.
The L-G performed pooja soon after his arrival at the high-security Bhagwati Nagar base camp and later flagged off the yatra for the twin base camps in Kashmir, officials said.
Sinha was flanked by local MLAs, top officials and heads of various religious organisations during the flagging-off ceremony.
"I have flagged off the first batch of pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra from Bhagwati Nagar base camp. Wishing all spiritual seekers a safe and comfortable journey to the holy abode of Lord Shiva for a deeply soul-stirring experience. Prayed to Baba Amarnath for peace and blessings to all," Sinha said.
"The devotees from all over the country are here. It feels like there is a big festival in Jammu city. The enthusiasm is very high. The devotees of Bholenath have defied all terror threats and are coming here in large numbers for darshan of Bholenath," Sinha added.
On security, he said the yatra is being monitored 24x7 from the Integrated Command and Control Centre at Raj Bhawan and the Police Control Room, while an RFID-based tracking system has also been put in place.
He said a 100-bed hospital has been constructed by ONGC at both the Chandanwari and Baltal Yatra base camps.
He added that a board office and Yatri Niwas have been inaugurated in Srinagar.
"We will also be inaugurating such a facility in Baltal on July 4," he said.
"The facilities for devotees coming for the Amarnath Yatra have improved since 2022. Twin routes leading to the cave shrine of Amarnath used to be six feet wide, which are now twelve feet wide," he said.
Amid chants of "Bum Bum Bhole" and "Har Har Mahadev", enthusiastic pilgrims numbering over 4,000 braved heavy rain as they left in a convoy of vehicles for Amarnath from Jammu, which was transformed into a city of divinity.
Undeterred by the Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 people dead on April 22, the pilgrims said the increasing number of devotees thronging the yatra will send a befitting reply to terrorists and Pakistan -- that they do not fear them.
Sarwanand Patel, a yatri from Gujarat who left in the first batch from Jammu, said, &ldquo;No matter how many attacks happen or how many bombs are hurled, devotees will not be deterred. We are not scared. Pilgrims will definitely come for darshan. I want to tell the nation that there is no need to be afraid. The large number of pilgrims is a befitting reply to them.&rdquo;
Sunita, a teenage pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh, said they had planned to be part of the first batch and today it became a reality.
&ldquo;We are happy to get darshan of Bholenath in the first batch. We are not scared because we know the security would be adequate. The arrangements are very good -- food, accommodation, sanitation, and all facilities,&rdquo; she said.
Another devotee, Ramesh Chander, who has been travelling to Amarnath for the past nine years, praised the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and the administration for making the best possible arrangements.
&ldquo;These are the best arrangements. We pray that everybody gets darshan in peace. There is nothing to fear. The Army and other security forces are here to guard the yatra.&rdquo; The pilgrimage began from Jammu as a convoy ferried devotees to the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal amid heavy security escort, traffic restrictions, and area domination along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, officials said.
Traffic restrictions will be imposed on various routes from July 2 to August 9, and daily advisories will be issued to minimise inconvenience, a traffic officer said, adding that cut-off timings have been fixed for each sector on the highway, which is monitored through CCTV surveillance.
Apart from the over 3.30 lakh yatris registered for this year's yatra, on-the-spot registration of devotees arriving for the pilgrimage has also started in Jammu, they said.
Jammu has come under a security blanket with enhanced measures, including a multi-layered security grid and the use of technology for surveillance.
Soon after the flagging off, J-K BJP President Sat Sharma said that thousands of devotees have come for the darshan of Baba Amarnath.
&ldquo;The atmosphere created two months ago by the terror incident (in Pahalgam) has been replaced by religious fervour and divinity. People have faith that they are in safe hands in Jammu and Kashmir,&rdquo; Sharma said.
The DIG of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range, Shridhar Patil, said that no drones or any other flying objects will be permitted along the yatra route without prior permission from the concerned deputy commissioner.
&ldquo;All aerial activities in the area are prohibited to maintain tight security. Anyone violating this rule will face strict action,&rdquo; he warned.

Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, the token distribution centre for offline registration of the pilgrims was operationalised here on Monday, even as the authorities successfully conducted a dry run of the arrangements along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, officials said.

The first batch of pilgrims will leave for Kashmir from the Jammu-based Bhagwati Nagar base camp on July 2.
Authorities on Monday opened the token distribution centre at Saraswati Dham in Jammu, drawing huge enthusiasm from devotees across the country and abroad.
Braving rain, pilgrims aspiring to undertake the Yatra thronged the centre to get tokens for their on-the-spot registration.
"The distribution of tokens has started today. For this purpose, a token centre has been set up at Saraswati Dham, from where tokens are being distributed to pilgrims undertaking the Yatra on both routes &ndash; Pahalgam and Baltal," Manu Hansa, sub-divisional magistrate, Jammu South, told reporters here.
He said after getting the tokens, the pilgrims can get themselves registered for the Yatra on Tuesday and undertake the pilgrimage beginning July 2 from the Jammu base camp in Bhagwati Nagar.
"The registration will begin tomorrow at three centres &mdash; Vaishnavi Dham, Panchayat Bhawan and Mahajan Sabha. This is the only centre from where devotees can get the token. The centre opens at 7 am," he said.
The SDM said the per-day quota of tokens and registration is 2,000 each, and the counters will remain open till the daily quota is exhausted.
Ahead of the Yatra, the administration conducted a successful dry run of the convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway to ensure a safe and trouble-free yatra, officials said.
Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti accompanied the convoy, which left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu around 4.30 am.
Kumar said that arrangements for food, shelter, sanitation and other essentials have been made after reviewing security and other arrangements along the highway in Udhampur and Ramban districts.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sachin Kumar told reporters that people should come in large numbers as the administration has made elaborate arrangements for a comfortable and secure pilgrimage.
Police officials said foolproof security arrangements are in place along the highway, with a joint control room monitoring the movement of pilgrim vehicles through CCTV cameras.
Officials working in emergency departments are also part of this joint control room to ensure a swift response to any situation, they said.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made arrangements to house over 50,000 pilgrims in various lodgement centres across the Jammu region for their comfortable pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the South Kashmir Himalayas beginning July 3, officials said.
The 38-day-long Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to start on July 3 from the twin routes &mdash; the traditional 48-kilometre Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-kilometre Baltal route in Ganderbal district &mdash; leading to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine. The first batch of pilgrims will leave for Kashmir from the Jammu-based Bhagwati Nagar base camp a day before the start of the Yatra.
"Arrangements have been made to provide boarding and lodging facilities for over 50,000 people at various lodgement centres across the Jammu region, from Lakhanpur to Banihal. A total of 106 lodgement centres have been set up for the purpose," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar told reporters here.
These arrangements have been made by the district administrations of Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur and Ramban besides the police wings, he said.
He said community kitchens have been established with the support of voluntary organisations to provide food to the pilgrims in Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur and Ramban districts. "Sanitation facilities including toilet setup have been made at all lodgement centres in these districts too," he said.
Boarding and lodging centres have been created in Jammu city to accommodate the pilgrims in support with social organisations, he said.
Kumar said the Yatra will commence from Jammu on July 2 and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag it off from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp amid tight security arrangements. "The Yatra will formally start from Kashmir on July 3." In addition to regular registration counters, there will also be a facility for tatkal (on-the-spot) registration, which will be available at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, he said.
"This registration will be done based on a daily quota. There are five registration centres for this. Pilgrims who have completed their registration will be issued RFID cards for the Yatra. These RFID cards can be obtained from the Lakhanpur entry point, Samba, Jammu, Chanderkote and Banihal centres," he said.
On including all pilgrims in the Yatra convoy, he said those who have their own vehicles and are associated with the Yatra will also move along with the convoy after fulfilling all necessary formalities. Kumar said those who want to travel by private vehicles will also proceed to Kashmir under security cover. "An advisory has been issued stating that even individual pilgrims coming from outside will have to proceed along with the convoy." All of them will check in at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu, from where they will leave daily in a convoy protected by security personnel, he said.
The divisional commissioner said this time the Amarnath Yatra will not involve travel by train. "All the arrangements for the Yatra have been completed." The Divisional Commissioner added that in case of bad weather or the closure of the highway, control rooms have been set to provide information to travellers in real time.
He said arrangements have also been put in place for various other yatras in the region, particularly the Budha Amarnath pilgrimage in Poonch.

In an order signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Pahalgam-based Naib Tehsildar Ovais Amir was suspended for &lsquo;leaving the station without permission and sabotaging the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.&rsquo;
An inquiry has been ordered into the matter, the media report said.
