Preneet Kaur is the wife of Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab who quit the Congress in 2021, and merged his new party with the BJP in September 2022.

The Congress on 3 February 2023 suspended its Lok Sabha MP Preneet Kaur from the party on allegations of "indulging in anti-party activities to help the BJP".
Preneet Kaur is the wife of Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab who quit the Congress in 2021, and merged his new party with the BJP in September 2022.
Kaur was also issued a show-cause notice to explain within 3 days why she should not be expelled from the Congress.
"The Congress president has received a complaint from Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, president of PCC Punjab, alleging that Preneet Kaur, MP (Lok Sabha) from Patiala is indulging in anti-party activities to help BJP. Some other senior Congress leaders of Punjab also share this view," Congress' disciplinary panel member secretary Tariq Anwar said in a statement.

He said the complaint was referred to the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the AICC for necessary action.
"The DAC carefully considered it and decided that Preneet Kaur, MP Lok Sabha from Patiala should be suspended from the party with immediate effect and she has been called upon to show cause within three days as to why she should not be expelled from the party," Anwar, who is also the AICC general secretary, said.

Singh had a courtesy meeting with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who addressed a press conference at the venue in Chandigarh on February 2.
BS Koshyari, the current Maharashtra governor, offered to step down from his position last month amid a raging controversy over his remarks on Shivaji that led to calls for his resignation.
A statement from the Raj Bhavan had said that Koshyari wanted to retire from political life and that he had conveyed his desire to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.

“Good luck and goodbye Congress”, former PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar said on Saturday while announcing his decision to quit the Congress that last month removed him from all party positions for alleged anti-party activities.
The disgruntled leader, whose decision comes during the party’s three-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur, went live on his Facebook page to make the announcement.
“It is my parting gift to the party. Good luck and goodbye Congress,” Jakhar said while announcing his decision to part ways with the Congress party.
The former Punjab Congress chief had been upset with the party for serving him a show-cause notice on April 11. However, Jakhar chose not to reply to the Congress disciplinary committee panel.
The former MP had criticised former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and termed him a "liability" for the party after the Congress lost to the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
Jakhar had rejected the charges against him and had said his statement was twisted and taken out of context. He had also expressed regret if anybody was hurt by his comments.
He had earlier created a flutter when he claimed that 42 MLAs wanted him to be the chief minister and only two backed Channi following the unceremonious exit of Amarinder Singh last year.
Jakhar was among the front-runners for the chief ministerial post after Amarinder Singh was unseated last year. His chances were scuttled after party leader Ambika Soni said the party should go with a Sikh face.

The Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum define the geography.
But it's the three regions of the state, again carved out by the rivers, that define its politics.
All through the election season you will hear Malwa, Majha and Doaba. The three regions that make up Punjab politically. All the three regions have their distinct social, economic and political identity.
The Majha region of present-day Punjab falls between the Ravi and the Beas. Then begins Doaba, which literally means the land between two rivers. It starts from the Beas and goes on till the Sutlej. Beyond the Sutlej lies the Malwa region, the biggest of the three.
First let's take a closer look at Malwa region:
Malwa: The Political Monopoly
It's the largest region with 69 of Punjab's 117 Assembly seats.
All but two CMs of the state have been from this region.
Current CM Channi, former CMs Captain Amarinder Singh and Badal come from Malwa.
2017: Congress won 40 of 69 seats, AAP made an impressive debut winning 18 seats in the region. 
Akalis lost their traditional stronghold and could only win 8 seats in Malwa.
Aam Aadmi Party won all of its 4 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 from Malwa region.
Malwa was also the epicentre of the year-long farm agitation. According to a Punjab University study, around 80 per cent of the 700-odd farmers who died during the protests belonged to the Malwa region.
Glaring inequality in landholdings with big landlords holding hundreds of acres while majority make do with little landholdings.
Majha: Where Religion and Politics Mix
Majha region is nestled between Ravi and Beas rivers, on border with Pakistan.
Majha means ‘in the middle’, and it used to be the centre of undivided Punjab before Partition.
With 25 Assembly seats, Majha is the hotbed of "panthic" or religious politics in the state.
Home to Golden Temple in Amritsar and Kartarpur Corridor that connects to Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.
Region has traditionally been a stronghold of Akali Dal, but that changed in 2017
In 2017,  the Congress won 22 seats, and the SAD was marginalised to just 2.
AAP is yet to open its account in the region.

The BJP in Punjab will contest on 65 assembly seats, Captain Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress on 37 seats and the SAD (Sanyukt) on 17 seats, BJP chief JP Nadda announced on Monday.
Hailing Punjab as a 'leader', especially in defence and food security of the country, he said, 'Today Punjab needs special attention, it needs a double engine government and a better coordination between the Centre and the state.'

Addressing a press conference, Kapil Sibal spoke on behalf of the group of 23 leaders (G-23), who wrote a strongly worded letter to party president Sonia Gandhi seeking sweeping changes.
