Delhi's air quality reached a new high with an AQI of 75, the best since last September. The CPCB categorized it within the 'satisfactory' range. Authorities issued a 'yellow' alert for storms.

Delhi recorded its cleanest air since September last year on Friday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) remaining in the "satisfactory" category for a fourth consecutive day and settling at 75.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI was recorded at 75 at 4 pm, marking the cleanest air in the capital since September 28, when it was 67.
The city recorded AQI readings of 89, 80 and 96 on June 19, June 18 and June 17 respectively -- all falling within the "satisfactory" range. On Monday, the air quality was recorded in the "moderate" category, with a reading of 111.
According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
A "yellow" alert for thunderstorms and rains has been issued.
Humidity levels fluctuated between 77 per cent in the morning and 66 per cent in the evening.

Studying offices across six countries for one year, the research linked higher concentration of PM 2.5 and lower ventilation rates with reduced&nbsp;response times and reduced accuracy on a series of cognitive tests.&nbsp;300 office workers in cities across China, India, Mexico, Thailand, UK and the U.S. were studied.&nbsp;

Much ahead of the air pollution season, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to inaugurate India&rsquo;s first-ever smog tower at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Delhi's Connaught Place area to help combat rising air pollution levels in the national capital.
The over 20-metre-tall tower is being set up to improve the air quality in a radius of around 1 km and is expected to "operate at full capacity" after the monsoon ends, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said.
The smog tower, built at a cost of ₹22 crores, will be able to purify 1,000 cubic metres of air every second, Rai added.
Meanwhile, the Centre has also built a 25-metre-tall smog tower at Anand Vihar which might become operational by the end of August, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said.
The national capital territory has been particularly vulnerable to air pollution levels over the last two decades, it is one of the world's leaders in poor air quality with extremely high amounts of PM2.5, PM10 and other noxious chemicals and smoke permeating the atmosphere.
The increasing pollution levels in the capital are due to the population growth, increasing numbers of vehicles, use of fuels, heavy industrial work, construction activities and open waste burning.
A study carried out by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) showed that the annual average PM2.5 concentration in 2020 for Delhi was 93 Aug/m3, which is more than twice the permissible limit for PM2.5 in India. 
Despite the low activity levels for close to eight months due to the pandemic induced lockdown in 2020, Delhi residents were exposed to National Ambient Air Quality Standard's (NAAQS) non-compliant air for more than half of the year, the study said.
Increased pollution levels lead to fatal health hazards and to tackle this, the Delhi government has set up the smog towers. The prototype for a smog tower was first built in 2017 by a Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde, in Beijing. Following this, Roosegaarde's prototype was later installed in China's Tianjin and Poland's Krakow.
In 2018, a 100-metre long smog tower was built in China's Xi'an. Currently, it is under testing by researchers at the Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Mumbai sees worst air quality since March

Mumbai recorded its worst air quality since March on Sunday, with an AQI of 100.

Pollution levels soared in some areas of Mumbai, giving rise to hazy conditions for the second day in a row on Sunday, the Hindustan Times reported.
The skyline was engulfed by a layer of smog as the Air Quality index for PM2.5 was recorded at 100 or satisfactory.
The System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research(SAFAR) said this was the worst air quality recorded since March, stating that moisture in the air has increased its capacity of carrying pollutants
The condition at Bandra Kurla Complex was the worst, with an AQI of 304 on Sunday, followed by Navi Mumbai which had a moderate AQI&nbsp;at 156.&nbsp;
