Actor Abhay Deol rejects the &lsquo;Western way&rsquo; of labeling sexuality, preferring to operate without labels meant to &lsquo;neatly slot&rsquo; individuals for others' comfort.&nbsp;
When asked about his view on sexuality, Abhay described it as a spectrum, emphasizing that he rejects the Western binary approach because &lsquo;it's so black and white.&rsquo;
In an interview with Dirty Magazine, he said, &lsquo;The Eastern approach is so different; it recognises the whole of us. I don&rsquo;t define my sexuality, and this might sound controversial but for me it&rsquo;s not something that I think can be defined. I think it&rsquo;s more for the other person&rsquo;s comfort, so that they can put you in a box, neatly slot you. Why should I define myself in Western terms? I have embraced all experiences in my life and I continue to do so. I don&rsquo;t know how to label that, I don&rsquo;t want to label that. All of us have a masculine and feminine within us, so in my opinion we are all they/them.&rsquo;
For Abhay Deol masculinity means &lsquo;the ability to make people feel safe and included.&rsquo; He mentioned that as a man, he feels like a &lsquo;protector and provider,&rsquo; noting that this could stem from personal experience or societal conditioning.
He said, &lsquo;But there is a sense of taking charge and leading. Having said that I would happily give it up to a woman too if she wanted to take charge and lead, that&rsquo;s also part of my masculinity.&rsquo;
When it was noted that his views don't make him a &lsquo;toxic&rsquo; man, Abhay responded, 'It's very easy to be provocative through violence and sex. It's much harder to be provocative through silence. How do I provoke you by not saying anything? That's what interests me.&rsquo;
The actor mentioned that he isn't &lsquo;hiding,&rsquo; but spends most of his time at his home in Goa. He also noted that over the past nine years, he has frequently been in Los Angeles, enjoying the anonymity it provides.

The duo had worked together on the cult classic &lsquo;Dev D&rsquo; (2009. In a 2020 interview, Anurag had claimed that working with Abhay had been a &lsquo;painfully difficult&rsquo; experience.
Abhay, who is currently being praised for his role in Netflix web series &lsquo;Trial By Fire&rsquo;, said in an interview had indicated that Anurag shared a bunch of lies regarding his attitude and privilege as a Deol during the making of &lsquo;Dev D&rsquo;. Calling the filmmaker &lsquo;a liar and a toxic person&rsquo;, Abhay said that he would warn people about him.

In an interview with Mashable India, Abhay said, &lsquo;Because I grew up in a filmy family. I saw fame up close as a child. I didn&rsquo;t like it because your privacy goes away. A lot is written about you. I used to literally hate fame and the media. Because growing up I saw a lot written about family, being questioned as a kid, 'Is it true, is that true?' It used to make me angry. 'Your father works in films, your uncle is a big star'. Obviously. Whatever was written about them, I was asked in school. I just didn't like that. I saw a lot of people around family who I knew were there to gain benefits, they weren't friends.&rsquo;
He also spoke about the time when he was in New York and said, &lsquo;The Dev D role that I did, I wasn&rsquo;t out of that headspace. So for one year, I did what Dev D did in the film. I have a little more better than Dev. I wasn't in tattered clothes in the streets. I drank every day like a fool. I made some very good friends, so I remember some things. My whole life is a daze.&rsquo;
&lsquo;Dev D&rsquo; is a 2009 romantic black comedy film that released in February 2009. It was written and directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film stars Abhay alongside Mahie Gill and Kalki Koechlin.
Abhay was last seen in the limited series &lsquo;Trial By Fire&rsquo; based on the fire at Uphaar Cinema in 1997. Directed by Prashant Nair and produced by Endemol Shine India and House of Talkies, the drama also stars Rajshri Deshpande, Rajesh Tailang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla, and Shardul Bharadwaj.
