The Unique Identification Authority of India has rolled out a new AI security mechanism for Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication and faster detection of spoofing attempts.&nbsp;
This new two-factor authentication is designed to add additional checks to verify the authenticity of the fingerprint, thereby reducing potential spoofing attempts.&nbsp;
The mechanism is designed to be of great use in banking, telecom, government, and Aadhaar-enabled payment system sectors.
The Unique Identification Authority of India is in contact with user agencies to facilitate switching to this new secure authentication mode.&nbsp;

The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, allows electoral registration officers to require the existing or prospective elector to provide the Aadhaar number for the "purpose of establishing identity" on a "voluntary basis", Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said in Lok Sabha.
He was responding to a question on the linkage of Aadhaar with electoral rolls.
The Election Commission has launched a programme to collect the Aadhaar number of existing and prospective electors on a voluntary basis from August 1 in all the states and UTs.
It is voluntary to link Aadhaar with a Voter ID and consent is obtained from the elector for Aadhaar authentication in Form 6B which was recently introduced, he said.
However, the minister made it clear that "there is no provision for withdrawing the consent" to share Aadhaar details.
Asked whether the name of the voters whose voter IDs are not linked with Aadhaar will be struck off from the voters' list, he replied in the negative.
The minister informed Rajya Sabha on Thursday that more than 54 crore of the nearly 95 crore total voters have opted to link their Aadhaar details with the voter list.
He said linking of Aadhaar is "process driven" and "no targets have been given" for linking Aadhaar with election photo identity card.
Rijiju said the Unique Identification Authority of India (UlDAl), under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 has made it compulsory for the centralised storage of all Aadhaar numbers in a different repository known as 'Aadhaar Data Vault'.
The Election Commission strictly follows the guidelines prescribed by UIDAI and "does not" store the Aadhaar numbers in its database. The Aadhaar number is used only for authentication purposes and EC does not retrieve any personal information from the UIDAI Aadhaar database, he underlined.&nbsp;

However, two days later, the Union Electronics and Information Technology Ministry issued a clarification. The government withdrew the May 27 advisory, saying that there was "possibility of misinterpretation".
The government said that the press release had been issued by UIDAI's Bengaluru regional office in context of an attempt to misuse a photoshopped Aadhaar card.
The government added, "Aadhaar Identity Authentication ecosystem has provided adequate features for protecting and safeguarding the identity and privacy of the Aadhaar holder." It said, "Aadhaar card holders are only advised to exercise normal prudence in using and sharing their UIDAI Aadhaar numbers."

The matter came up on Saturday when Dinesh, a resident of Raipur village in Bilsi tehsil, reached the primary school to get his daughter Aarti admitted. A teacher, Ekta Varshney, denied admission to her, the officials said.
The teacher asked Dinesh to get the Aadhaar card rectified.
District Magistrate Deepa Ranjan said, "Aadhaar cards are being prepared in post offices and banks. The mistake has happened because of gross negligence. We will alert bank and post office officials and strict action will be taken against those involved in such negligence." A picture of the Aadhaar card went viral on social media.

It also seeks to allow the electoral registration officers to ask for Aadhaar number from "persons already included in the electoral roll for the purposes of authentication of entries in electoral roll, and to identify registration of name of the same person in the electoral roll of more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency".
At the same time, the amendment bill makes it clear that "no application for inclusion of name in the electoral roll shall be denied and no entries in the electoral roll shall be deleted for inability of an individual to furnish or intimate Aadhaar number due to such sufficient cause as may be prescribed".
Such people will be allowed to furnish other alternative documents as may be prescribed.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had been pushing for multiple cut-off dates to allow more eligible people to register as voters.
Currently, for an election to be held in a particular year, only an individual who has attained the age of 18 years as on January 1 of that year or before is eligible to be enrolled in the voters’ list.
The EC had told the government that the January 1 cut-off date set for the purpose deprives several youngsters from participating in the electoral exercise held in a particular year.
Due to only one qualifying or cut-off date, a person attaining the age of 18 years on January 2 cannot be registered. Therefore, a person who turns 18 after January 1 will have to wait for the next year to get registered.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced six months extension for linking the two identification cards to provide relief to taxpayers and address difficulties faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the fourth time that the government has extended the last date for linking the PAN and Aadhaar. Initially, the last date was set as March 31, 2021, which was extended to June 30, and then to September 30. Now, the deadline has been extended till the end of current fiscal.
If the PAN card is not linked with the Aadhaar card, it is likely to become inoperative and may attract a late fee of ₹ 1,000. Also, one may not be able to carry financial transactions where its is mandatory to provide PAN card details.
You can follow these simple steps to link your PAN with Aadhaar card online

<li>Log on to the income tax e-filing website - www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in</li>
<li>Click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option</li>
<li>Enter the correct Permanent Account Number, Aadhaar Number, and your full name (as given in the Aadhaar card) in the relevant fields.</li>
<li>Enter the details such as date of birth in the designated fields</li>
<li>Enter the correct captcha code in the relevant field</li>
<li>Select the relevant option and click on the 'link Aadhaar' button at the bottom of the page</li>

Any amount sent abroad to buy foreign tour packages&nbsp;will attract a 5% tax-collected-at source or&nbsp;TCS&nbsp;beginning October 1, unless tax is already deducted at source (TDS) on that amount. For other foreign remittances, the tax will kick in only for the amount spent above&nbsp;₹7 lakh.
It will be 10% in case PAN or Aadhaar is not provided.&nbsp;The TCS will not be applicable if all arrangements of a foreign tour are made by oneself.
However, in case of education-related foreign remittances funded by loans, a TCS of 0.5% will be levied for an amount above ₹7 lakh.
