A new research claims that some of the biggest world heritage glaciers, such as the Grosser Aletschgletscher in the Swiss Alps, Khumbu Glacier in the Himalayas and Greenland's Jakobshavn Isbrae may get wiped out completely by 2100 if the current emission rates continue to soar. According to the study, published in the Journal of Earth's Future, scientists have combined data to analyse the current state of World Heritage glaciers. The authors predict glacier extinction in 21 natural world heritage sites. Several iconic landscapes will be impacted by rising temperatures. The study states that conservation of these iconic endangered features could promote global efforts and climate mitigation benefits.
