Sitting for long hours and leading a sedentary lifestyle may increase the risk of cancer, according to a new study published in Jama Oncology. The research suggests that moving for an extra 30 minutes every day may reduce cancer risk by 31%. According to the study's lead author from the MD Anderson Cancer Centre at the University of Texas, taking a simple stroll post work or walking while speaking on the phone can help one stay fit and healthy. The study analysed the movements of 8,000 people over a week between 2009 and 2013 and found years later that those who lived sedentary lives were at 82% greater risk of dying from cancer. On the contrary, those who indulged in even light exercises reduced their risk by 8%.
