On Shaheed Diwas or Martyrs' Day observed by the Trinamool Congress on July 21 every year, TMC chief and West bengal Chief Minister sounded the poll bugle for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This year there was no rally at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade Ground, instead, Mamata went virtual, addressing her supporters in light of the Covid-19 situation. Mamata's virtual address on Martyr's Day was attended by leaders from Congress, SP, NCP, Sena, DMK and telecast live in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Assam.

The Trinamool Congress chief said the party will fight the BJP in every state, at the booth level, announcing the TMC's national political plunge. Minister Mamata Banerjee pitched for Opposition unity ahead of the 2024 General Elections to halt the BJP juggernaut, saying she was keen to meet the parties when she visits Delhi next week.

“I will be in Delhi next week and I want to meet the opposition leaders during the ongoing Parliament session. I propose you call a meeting of opposition leaders between 26-28 of this month, we are keen to attend,” she said.

Taking a dig at the Centre over the Pegasus snooping row, Banerjee said she could not talk to opposition leaders as she knew her phone was being tapped.

“In the name of Pegasus, they are intruding into our lives. I have covered my phone in plastic, the government should also be plastered.” she said.

Invoking Tagore, the chief minister said the people of Bengal had demolished money and muscle power of the BJP.

"We want to congratulate the people of the country and my state. We fought against money, muscle, mafia power & all agencies. Despite all odds, we won because people in Bengal voted for us and we received blessings from people in country, world," said Mamata Banerjee.
