Meet the world's rarest dolphin species

You might have heard of, seen, or even swum with a bottlenose dolphin. But do you know there exists a species of dolphins so rare, that only 55 of them are left today? The Hector's dolphin is a small and stocky species from the dolphin family found in coastal waters of New Zealand, and is critically endangered. The dolphins often find themselves caught in fishing nets, causing a rapid decrease in their population. Organizations such as the WWF are working hard to pass legislations that will ban gillnetting in the dolphins’ habitat off the coast of New Zealand.
