Delhi records 2,716 new Covid cases, Mumbai logs over 6,000 infections

Mumbai reported 6,347 new Covid-19 cases, one death and 451 recoveries on Saturday. The city had recorded 5,631 infections on Friday.

Meanwhile, more than 10 ministers and at least 20 MLAs in Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus so far, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday and added that strict restrictions might be clamped if Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the state.

55% of the Covid-19 positive samples in Mumbai that were sent for genome sequencing have been detected with the new variant Omicron, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said on Friday.

In a massive surge, Delhi on Saturday recorded 2,716 fresh Covid cases, the highest single-day rise since May 21 while the positivity rate mounted to 3.64%, according to data shared by the city’s health department.

Saturday's tally of coronavirus cases was 51% than the figures registered a day before.

On Friday and Thursday, 1,796 and 1,313 cases were recorded with a positivity rate of 1.73% and 2.44% respectively, as per official figures.

The daily case count on Saturday breached the 2000-mark after a gap of over seven months.
