The Taliban have said that Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was killed in crossfire and it's wrong to say that their fighters killed him.

In a interview to NDTV, a Taliban spokesperson on Friday asked why did Danish Siddiqui not coordinate with them?

"We have announced to journalists not once but many times that when they come to our places, please coordinate with us and we will provide you security," Muhammad Shaheen told NDTV.

Pultizer-winning photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui, was killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and the Taliban last month in Spin Boldak district.

Earlier reports had claimed that Danish was captured and executed by the Taliban fighters and his body was mutilated.

The Taliban spokesperson denied the mutilation allegation, saying it was not the group's policy to mutilate dead bodies.

The spokesperson also claimed that the Taliban has taken control of "90 per cent" of Afghanistan.
