Rafael Nadal undergoes arthroscopy for hip injury that forced him out of Roland Garros

22-Time Grand Slam Champion Rafael Nadal on Friday underwent arthroscopy to check on the hip injury that forced out of the French Open this year.

The procedure was conducted in Barcelona on the left psoas muscle which has been troubling the Spaniard since January’s Australian Open.

Results of the surgery are yet to be made public.

Days before Roland Garros 2023 commenced, the tennis star had announced his withdrawal from the tournament, for the 1st time in 19 years, citing the injury.

He had added that if he returns to court, 2024 would be his last season on the ATP tour.

The 37-year-old’s absence from the French Open has not gone down well with the tennis world, with fans reminiscing about his triumphs over the past two decades.

Nadal has reigned supreme at the clay-court tournament a record 14 times, aptly earning the title ‘King of Clay’.

He also holds the joint record of most number of Grand Slams with longtime rival Novak Djokovic. A record which the Serb is looking to break with his 23rd title at the current Roland Garros.
