Indian Doubles Team Triumphs at Japan Open Super 750

Tokyo, Jul 16 (PTI): The standout Indian doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty breezed into the second round of the Japan Open Super 750, showcasing dominant performances. The duo, ranked 15th globally, overpowered the Korean pair of Kang Min Hyuk and Kim Dong Ju with a decisive 21-18, 21-10 victory in a swift 42-minute contest.

The experienced pair initially faced some resistance as the Koreans kept pace in the opening game. However, once Satwik and Chirag gained momentum, they became unstoppable, demonstrating remarkable precision in the second game.

Meanwhile, in the singles segment, Lakshya Sen also made an impressive advance to the next round. Despite a challenging season characterized by early exits, Lakshya displayed sharpness as he conquered China's Wang Zheng Xing 21-11, 21-18.

The world No. 18, Lakshya, controlled the opening game with an imposing 11-2 lead before wrapping it up with ease. While Xing offered more resistance in the second game, Lakshya utilized his early momentum to maintain an edge and clinch the match in straight sets.

Looking ahead, Lakshya is set to face the seventh seed and local favorite, Kodai Naraoka, in the round of 16.
