Sri Lanka Cricket suspended by ICC with immediate effect due to government interference

The International Cricket Council has suspended Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect, citing government interference.

According to the press release, 'The ICC Board met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

The statement further read that 'the conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course.'

The ICC's decision comes in response to the extensive government interference in the administration, including the recent sacking of the entire SLC board by the Sports Minister, which was later overturned by Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal.

Sri Lanka will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events until the suspension is lifted.
