Shubman Gill impresses on return but perishes early; No. 1 ranking still some time away | IND vs PAK

Indian opener Shubman Gill played some lovely shots on his return to the Indian XI for the game against Pakistan. Gill, who missed India's first two World Cup games due to dengue, was looking in sublime touch before perishing trying to play one shot too many.

Gill crunched 4 boundaries during his 11-ball short stay, reminding the world how we have been missing him at the top of the order.

The 24-year-old, the highest run-scorer in ODIs this year, departed trying to hit Shaheen Afridi for another four. Shadab Khan, who was stationed at backward point, took a sharp catch after Gill smashed the short, wide 'hit me ball' straight to him.

Even though it was hit with a lot of force, Shadab, who's also Pakistan's best fielder, silenced the crowd with the catch.

His departure for 16 also meant that he'll have to wait longer to dethrone Pakistani captain Babar Azam at the top of the ODI rankings. While the difference between the two was just 5 points in the last update, Babar outscored the Indian opener with his fifty in the match.
