Brentford striker Ivan Toney charged by FA over alleged betting misconduct

The Football Association in England has charged Brentford striker Ivan Toney with 232 alleged breaches of betting rules over a four-year period.

The alleged breaches took place between February 2017 to January 2021. The 26-year-old has been given time till November 24 to respond to the allegations.

Last week, Toney confirmed that he's assisting the FA with their investigation. And the Football body announced on Wednesday that it is charging the Bees' striker with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

If a player is found guilty, the FA can impose “financial penalties, suspensions, and in some instances, lifetime bans”.

Toney, who was not picked by England manager Gareth Southgate for the World Cup in Qatar, has scored 10 goals for Brentford in the Premier League this season.
