Thrilling Start at Baycurrent Classic: Greyserman Leads

Yokohama, Japan – Oct 9

Three Americans, Max Greyserman, Bud Cauley, and Brian Campbell, each carded a 4-under 67 to claim the top spots on the leaderboard after the first round of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan.

This tournament is uniquely significant as it remains the only PGA Tour event held in Japan, having moved to Yokohama Country Club this year, following its tenure as the Zozo Championship just east of Tokyo since 2019.

Australian golfer Adam Scott was among eight players trailing the leaders by a single stroke, while seven more competitors found themselves just two shots off the pace.

Notably, members of the recently defeated US Ryder Cup team, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, concluded the day at even-par 71. Meanwhile, reigning champion Nico Echavarria of Colombia posted a 70.

Japan's own Hideki Matsuyama, renowned for his 2021 Masters win, opened with a round of 72.

Having narrowly missed out on victory last year, Max Greyserman was quick to express his fondness for playing in Japan, attributing the attraction to its exceptional culture and courteous fans.

The challenging first day's conditions, marked by high winds, did not go unnoticed by Greyserman, who acknowledged the difficulties and expressed satisfaction with his performance.

Greyserman also acknowledged Echavarria's stellar win from last year and expressed hope for his own success this time around.
