Uttarakhand Natural Spring Revival Unites Women | IndiaSpend

Since the last few decades, the Himalayan region is increasingly gripped by water shortage. Local communities have been playing a role in reviving natural springs that are one of the common sources of water in the region. We visited a few villages, where we noticed that women have come forward to revive and manage springs and while it has turned their fortunes, it has done very little to reduce the inequality of the burden of work related to water between women and men. Further, springs are still being managed along caste lines, and there is a differential access to water for different castes.
