Harley-Davidson Exits India

Harley-Davidson has decided to discontinue its sales and manufacturing operations in India. The iconic American bike maker informed its employees of additional restructuring costs amounting to $75 million in 2020, which includes discontinuing the brand's operations in India. The action will include an associated workforce reduction of approximately 70 employees, the company said in a statement. The discontinuation of India operations is a part of the brand&rsquo;s The Rewire strategy that was recently outlined by Jochen Zeitz, President, Chairman and CEO, of Harley Davidson. Harley-Davidson India had a manufacturing facility in Haryana. The brand expects to complete the restructuring actions within the next 12 months.

Zomato receives backlash

Ultraviolette took the wraps off the F99 electric motorcycle factory racing platform at Auto Expo 2023. The intent is to create a customisable racing platform that can be applied to different formats of two-wheeler racing. The F99 can do a top speed of 200 kmph and does the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.5 seconds. We have a quick chat with Narayan Subramaniam, Co-founder and CEO, Ultraviolette, who takes us through the F99 Factory Racing Platform.

Ultraviolette took the wraps off the F99 electric motorcycle factory racing platform at Auto Expo 2023. The intent is to create a customisable racing platform that can be applied to different formats of two-wheeler racing. The F99 can do a top speed of 200 kmph and does the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.5 seconds. The new sales model was rolled out in 2021 wherein Mercedes-Benz would directly sell its vehicles to customers. Under the new model, Mercedes itself would own the entire stock of cars rather than dispatching them in numbers to dealerships. Customers would then in turn be provided with a single pan India price and be invoiced by the company directly. Mercedes revealed it retailed over 1,000 units in a little over a month after its launch in early December. This would mean that the carmaker has averaged sales of around 1,600 vehicles a month via its new sales model. The automaker also revealed that it sold over 4,000 cars in the first quarter of 2022 and has an order bank of over 5,000 cars, its largest ever so far.

The new Jeep Compass Night Eagle Edition is an all-black themed trim based on the current Compass and gets quite a fair bit of gloss black treatment to the exterior and interior. Upgrades include a gloss black grille, 18-inch black alloy wheels, black roof rails, gloss black wing mirrors, fog lamp bezels and more. Inside, the cabin gets a piano black treatment coupled with black vinyl seats with light tungsten stitching and black vinyl inserts for the door trim. The model carries over the 10.1-inch infotainment system, a 7-inch instrument display, dual-zone automatic climate control, hill start assist, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and electronic parking brake. The Jeep Compass Night Eagle will be available with the 2.0-litre diesel manual and the 1.4-litre turbo petrol with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmission options.&nbsp;
