Parliament Winter Session updates: Moitra expelled from Lok Sabha, Mamata says sad day for democracy

1: Mahua accepted the allegation and she said that she got certain brands' scarf, and lipstick, she did not deny all this.

The CPI(M) on Friday claimed that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha is a "black day" for the Parliament. Describing the action against Moitra as "overactiveness", CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty said that it is a display of the BJP's use of its brute majority in the Lok Sabha. "It is a black day for the Parliament," he told PTI.

I am sad, I don't understand how a panel report which is more than 400 pages has been accepted in minutes, I don't understand how members can go through so many page so quickly: Mamata

Citing the length of the Ethics Committee Report, which is 500-page long, the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to allow MPs sufficient time to delve into the contents of the report.

After the resumption of the Lower House, BJP's Vijay Sonkar had tabled the Ethics Committee's report. However, due to protests by the ministers in the Parliament, the House was adjourned until 2 PM. 

Ethics panel is set to present a 500-page report, recommending Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha. She is embroiled in the 'cash-for-query' case. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused her of receiving cash and other gifts for posing questions to the Lok Sabha. 

Various opposition members have insisted that there should be a discussion on the recommendations before a decision is taken on Moitra.

However, she can only be expelled if the House votes in favour of the ethics panel's recommendation.

Just before the Lok Sabha session for today began, Mahua Moitra said, "Maa Durga aa gayi hai, ab dekhenge...Jab naash manuj par chhata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai. They have started 'vastraharan' and now you will watch 'Mahabharat ka rann'."

Ethics panel is set to present report related to her alleged involvement in the 'cash-for-query' case, as per which she might face expulsion.  

After protests over the Ethics panel's report, Lok Sabha has been adjourned until 12 noon.

The opposition sought to address concerns related to the ethics committee report on cash-for-query charges against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, scheduled for discussion today.

The Ethics Committee is expected to table its report on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's involvement in an alleged "cash-for-query" case on Day 5 of the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament. 

Moitra's case was to be taken up on the opening day of the Parliament's session. However, it wasn't taken up.

Rajya Sabha -- 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is also expected to introduce a Bill to authorize payment and appropriation related to Consolidated Fund of India for 2023-2024.
