Worried about spike in electricity bill due to AC? Follow these tips this summer to keep it in check

Summers are here and it's almost impossible to survive without air conditioners, but keeping the AC on throughout the day means a hole in your pocket. Here are some tips that can help you save some power and get lesser electricity bill.

Worried about spike in electricity bill due to AC? Follow these tips this summer to keep it in check

As India braces itself for the scorching summer months, temperatures soar across most cities, air conditioners (AC) are a necessity in most households. With the mercury rising relentlessly, households and businesses alike heavily rely on ACs to escape the oppressive heat.

Worried about spike in electricity bill due to AC?

The huge dependence on air conditioning comes at a cost, reflected in soaring electricity bills. As air conditioners work overtime to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, electricity consumption spikes, putting a strain on household budgets and adding pressure to the already burdened power grid. Consequently, amidst the sweltering heat of summer, managing electricity bills becomes a huge concern for many.

Follow these useful tips to keep electricity bill in check

Here are some useful tips that can help you save some power and get lesser electricity bill:

1. Running the AC at a minimum temperature doesn’t ensure better cooling. So, set the temperature at 24 degrees or higher to save energy and cut the electricity bills.

2. When the AC is not in use, turn off the power switch. While most people prefer turning off the system using a remote, it is not ideal as electricity is wasted when the compressor is set to idle load.

3. Similar to other electrical appliances, air conditioning systems also need servicing. Thus, you should get your AC serviced at least twice a year for better maintenance.

4. To prevent overusing the AC, use the timer. Set it to turn off the cooling after four or five hours so you can sleep comfortably without compromising your energy bills.

How to stay protected from the heat waves during the scorching summer

  • Stay indoors for most of the day.
  • Step out only during the cooler times of the day like early mornings and late evenings.
  • Stay hydrated with healthy beverages like coconut water, buttermilk or aam panna to escape the scorching heat waves.
  • Wear lightweight, breathable clothing for added comfort.
