World Tourism Day 2021: Promoting tourism for inclusive growth

World Tourism Day 2021: If there is one sector other than the health sector that faced the wrath of the Covid-19 pandemic, then it is the tourism sector.

As per the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report published on 30th June 2021, due to the pandemic, international tourism and the linked sectors suffered a loss of $2.4 trillion in 2020. Due to the lack of widespread COVID-19 vaccinations, tourism in developing countries has been hit the hardest by the pandemic.

Celebrated each year on 27 September, World Tourism Day aims at promoting tourism for inclusive growth. It was established by the UN World Tourism Organisation and was first observed in 1980.

The day focuses on creating awareness about the social, cultural and economic value of tourism. And also works towards highlighting the contribution of the tourism sector in helping reach sustainable development goals.

As the world gets ready to kick start tourism once again, the goal is to ensure that no one is left behind.
