Solar Eclipse 2024: Where to witness the phenomenon, live stream and other deets

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking all or part of the sun's light from reaching Earth. This celestial event can only happen during a new moon when the sun and moon are aligned in the sky.

Cosmic lovers can gear up for a Total Solar Eclipse that is set to occur on Monday, April 8. Let us learn more details about where we can watch it and if Indians will get to witness the celestial event.

Will Indians witness the event?

Indians will not be able to witness the Total Solar Eclipse 2024. NASA, the US space agency informed that Surya Grahan will be visible in various countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other parts of North America.

The official website states, "On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada."

When will it happen?

You can have a live view of the eclipse spanning around 12 hours, at the places where it will be visible. This year Total Solar Eclipse will commence at 2:12 pm on April 8 and will conclude by 2:22 am on April 9.

Safety precautions you should keep in mind

If you are in a country where a solar eclipse is visible, make sure to avoid looking directly at the sun. One should also use a special-purpose solar filter over the front optics of the telescope, camera lens, or binoculars before looking at the sun.

Where to watch it live?

You can watch it live on NASA's broadcast. A team from the University of Maine will also livestream the solar eclipse straight from the stratosphere.
