'Pebbling' is the latest dating trend inspired by penguins, know all about it

In the ever-evolving landscape of modern dating, new trends continuously emerge, reflecting the dynamic ways people connect and express affection. In this modern era, where new dating terms keep emerging, a new term called 'pebbling' is gaining popularity on social media which is inspired by penguins.

What is Pebbling?

Pebbling refers to the act of giving small presents or making kind gestures for your partner to brighten their day. This term is inspired by Gentoo penguins, which, according to the New York Post, give pebbles to someone they have a crush on. These pebbles are then used to build nests.

For humans, pebbling can take the form of sharing memes, reels, and social media posts to express love and affection.

Pebbling started with the advent of meme sending as a form of creating a connection with people,” Gigi Engle, a relationship expert and psychotherapist Gigi Engle told Metro.

Gen Z looks at memes as an additional form of interaction, frequently in addition to text messaging, and have been dubbed a "love language." She continued, "It can definitely strengthen a relationship because it's similar to sending a message saying 'I saw this and thought of you'. Pebbling can be a really good way of building banter and a connection with a partner. It doesn't have to be physical stuff - it's meme culture."

Pebbling does have the potential to set an expectation of communication you’re going to have throughout your relationship, so that’s something to keep in mind,” Engle said.
