New Year 2024: Which countries will bid goodbye to 2023 first & last? Know where India stands in the race

Just a few days more and we will bid goodbye to 2023. The year went by in a jiffy and soon it will be time to make and break more New Year resolutions. The new year brings a new wave of hope and we bet you are super-excited to see what 2024 has to offer. While you make plans with your friends and family, let's look at the countries that will be welcoming the new year first and the last!

Which country will welcome 2024 first?

The Pacific Islands of Tonga, Samoa, and Kiribati are the countries that will welcome New Year first at 3:30 AM IST or 10 AM GMT. This will be followed by New Zealand at around 10:15 am GMT. Russia, Australia, Japan, China, and Thailand will follow suit.

Which country will welcome 2024 last?

Head to Howland and Baker Islands if you want to live in 2023 for longer as January 1 will begin there at 5:30 pm IST. They will be welcoming New Year the last in the world.

What about India?

India will be the 16th country to welcome the New Year!
