Karwa Chauth 2024: When will the festival be celebrated this year? Know its signifcance in marital bond

Karwa Chauth is a significant festival primarily celebrated by married Hindu women, and this year it is being celebrated on October 20th. On this day, women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the well-being, longevity, and prosperity of their husbands. The word Karwa refers to a clay pot used for the ritual, and Chauth means the fourth day, as the festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon in the Hindu month of Kartik.

Key Rituals of Karwa Chauth:

Sargi: A pre-dawn meal given by the mother-in-law to the fasting woman.
Nirjala Vrat: A strict fast, where women neither eat nor drink water throughout the day.

Evening Puja: Women dress in festive attire, apply henna, and gather to perform a prayer (puja) together.

Breaking the Fast: The fast is broken only after sighting the moon and performing a ritual, where the husband gives water and food to his wife.
It is a festival symbolizing love, devotion, and the strength of the marital bond.
